bros, I am seeking your opinions about this fix that I am in. Recently, I got involved with my cousin and I am considering to be with her. Question here is, is this possible? I mean are we too related to be together?

Under Singapore law cousins having carnal knowledge of each other is not considered an offense. So legally you can marry your cousin. What you should know however is that genetically it may not be the most desirable situation. It takes two people with the same recessive gene problem to have a child with that disease, marrying within your own family increases the odds of that happening. Though there are greater risks when you marry a close relative, it's certainly no guarantee that children will be born with any birth defects or disease. The risks increase as this happens more and more each generation. Some good examples of recessive gene manifestation would be the cases of hemophilia in the russian czars/english kings progeny or the skull deformations in the Egyptian pharaohs. They married within their family circles to ensure power succession but medically this is not a good idea. If you truly love each other and intend to marry make sure you educate your children and impart to them the risks of marrying within the family as well since they will have more to fear. If you like my opinion I would say unless you don't want children its not a wise choice to carry on this relationship. I'm more in favor of Singaporeans marrying foreigners/other races as the gene pool will grow in depth. As many Chinese Singaporeans are descended from a narrow population band of immigrants from Guangzhou province, our genetic diversity is limited. It will do some good to introduce more variety. Hope this helps.

Mind disclosing your age?
It is not really recommended unless you don't wanna have kids...
But when true relation falls in, it is hard to control though just remember that you will face alot of difficulties from your family, and yes it is going to be a tough ride.
Good luck thou :)

dude, with you asking questions like that is giving me the impression that you're not really in love with your cousin to the eternity stage yet. If you really love her deep down in your heart, nothing will seems to matter or stop you from being with her. You should calm down and think twice if she is really the one for you or is it because of impulse.

Well, i guess things come in a full circle. Since young, we have a special feeling for each other but things just stopped at that. We each have our own relationships and meet only during family events where we just chat like normal. It was until late 2006, that we have more interactions. Somehow, we got together through some strange affinity - this is where i find it amazing. Our relationship has not been known yet to our families.
I guess I love her very much to got into some shit (*sorry bros, this is confidential). And we have talked about this before. Both of us are mentally prepared for things to come.
Maybe I post this question here is to voice out my situation, trying to find some solace or tranquility, whatever. I know and understand the odds. Thanks for all your help/advice.

Bro I would suggest you guys sit down and have a heart to heart talk before deciding what to do next. Do think of the outcome.
Blackmeat,

I don't get it... if it's not incest and there's nothing wrong, why cover up? As the Chinese saying goes, paper cannot cover a fire, so i would suggest that you announce your relationship, the sooner the better...

The percentage of consanguinity between any two individuals decreases fourfold as the most recent common ancestor recedes one generation. For example, first cousins have four times the consanguinity of second cousins. Estimated increased risk for first cousins at 1.7 - 2.8 % over the base risk of about 3% ie ~6%. First-cousin marriages entail roughly the same increased risk of birth defects as a woman faces when she gives birth at age 41 rather than at 30. A second-cousin mating entails an additional risk of birth defects that many authorities assess at about 1 in 100 — the same risk as that of a woman producing offspring at age 35.
I have already given you what you needed to know in my 1st post- you can marry her. Ask yourself why do you need to probe? Are you scared of consequences? If so are you ready to raise/abort a child with genetic problems, also can you afford to keep a child born with a genetic illness? Did you make the effort to check up what hereditary diseases your family may have on both your maternal and paternal sides? Do the both of you love each other enough to overcome these possible issues that may crop up?
Good luck.
