With Google translate on a smart phone you can get through pretty much anything now. A lot of locals are even getting used to doing it now. They'll just grab your phone and start talking back through it. Yeah I don't think it's realistic to expect non Vietnamese speakers to be able to speak in Vietnamese and be understood here. Maybe in tourist areas where they're used to hearing bad Vietnamese, but these short time hotels for locals, I don't think it will work. |

Re: Vietnam - HCM (Thread 3)
For vietnamese who have many foreign exposure, they will understand when a foreign man speak lousy vietnamese.
They are used to the wrong vowel, tone, accent and they are patient to guess the meaning. This is the reason why many foreign man complain their gf understand their tieng viet but the vietnamese ppl in vietnam never understand when they speak tieng viet.

Re: Vietnam - HCM (Thread 3)
Just use your ID card to check in. i have stay in 5 star hotel before, non-girl friendly so go to short time hotel. No need passport, you use your identity card to check in to hourly hotel. Why the need to create a big hassle over this issue?

Re: Vietnam - HCM (Thread 3)
I am not an expert in cheonging in HCM, I only check in once into a love hotel. No need ID require, just pay the room charges. That was 2 years ago, don't know whether it still apply today.

Re: Vietnam - HCM (Thread 3)
Hey you missed my irony in that post about the cafes. My personality is absolutely nothing special, I'm more of a quiet type and not one who can walk into a room and arouse the attention of the ladies. Quite the opposite. With those cafes, it can take multiple visits to get to go with the one you like. And the one you like may never notice you no matter what you do. I probably overstated it in that post. But I do think 95% of the time, if you perservere and work on it, you can get to be a regular with the one you have your eye on. Taking it to another level, ok that's another story. Not so easy. Very unpredictable cuz different girls are working different angles. I've dealt with some who seemed to be trying to scam me, became evident after about a month when money requests and dubious stories started coming forth. Others want to think of me as their brother. (great!) Some seem to have fun joking around and I'm not sure if they want to do anything else outside, maybe maybe not. With some conversation runs dry and it starts to feel pointless. One asked me if I wanted her to give me a massage. That happened recently when I went to one with a friend visiting, eventually it became clear the massage would be an overnight deal at $100. But I think the most common goal for these places would be girls who want a boyfriend (I use the term loosely, cuz what real boyfriend wants his GF to work in a place like that where her job is to flirt with men) at a certain amount of money per month. And many I guess are set up well enough that they are just there to make tips and keep their options alive.
Just thought of an exception to my rule. At Mifa on Huong Vuong there's this one tall beautiful girl who works in morning there, to me at least she's just incredible, I wonder what others would think. My method has totally failed on that girl. She's been there like 2 years and has never once sat with me. I'm pretty sure she has noticed I want to, but she just won't. Basically if the girl is so hot that she any man would kill to go with her, you might get to sit with her but then it might be tough to get good conversation going. There's always challenges. But sometimes things just fall into place and it's easy too. You said something earlier I forgot to respond to. About the % of guys who report back. Actually it's been up around 15% or something like that, if I count reports in the thread and also in PM. Not many guys here seem eager to give a blow by blow field report like you would see in that other forum, that is for sure. Not even in PM. I hope it's ok to talk about it but last night there was an amusing situation, a guy from here was using the chat feature of SB to talk to me live (a first for me, I've never used that), I was at work and he was walking around the city using his smart phone, he was in the LHP area at the time. He got lost and I was telling him which way to walk, in real time. He'd had trouble with hotels earlier in the day, had a few LHP options in mind, and I mentioned to him (since he was right there) to go check out some of those salons there as an alternative to the website girls, just take a look and decide, and so he did that, and our chat broke off as he entered into the last one on LHP, I guess you know which one I mean. For me that was pretty fun. I mean it wouldn't be fun if it became a regular thing, but as a one off, helping this guy arrive in Playland, yeah that was kind of cool. It was like I was the control center, he was my agent in the field. ;-) Still waiting to hear back from that guy about how it went. I had to leave, and he was offline at that point. But you saw, there's some guys talking about their website visits in the thread now. In the other forum too. I just like hearing about it. |

Re: Vietnam - HCM (Thread 3)
Yeah maybe it wasn't just about being white. And I'm nothing like a young handsome Korean guy. From my experience in the HBT bars, some places the girls can definitely develop a strong preference for the Asians rather than whites, so it does seem like that could be part of it. When I was there the lady ordering the lineup seemed like she had no power there, maybe it was the substitute mamasan that day.

Example, if you type "I need to go to the toilet and shit" then google will get the meaning very clearly. If you say "I need to go to the little boys room and lay some pipe" the translation will be a bit confusing for non-English speakers. You have to try to simplify the way you say things. Yeah about parasites, I think I kind of understand your perspective. Like for me, the guy who i did that live chat with the other night, I was a bit bummed that he didn't get back in touch to let me know how it went. But I don't think anything like that about him, could be many reasons why he hasn't reported back. It was fun doing that with him and that's mainly what I think about. I didn't get the cherry on top, but ok, whatever. As for the 15%, well it doesn't take much effort to PM the links, and it is fun when they report back, so for me that tradeoff feels ok. So I don't take that dim a view of them -- they want to check it out, ok fine. Then some come back and report, and I love that when they do. I guess you have done this so much that for you there's no enjoyment of that. You must have at some point though, no? For what it's worth, I think I'm coming round to how there seems to be a need for your 'services' for a fee, I mean I know there's lots of people on this forum and the other one who want that. At the same time, the purpose of these forums is for guys to come share info, the entertainment value of that info. So like if some people here DON'T want info shared, and that is for their ulterior motive (their business) which is at odds with the purpose of the forum, then to me they're anti-forum, they're saying their business interests should take precedence over the interests of the community and the forum here. Wrong. Freedom of speech should be the only rule here. But I am also on board that certain venues here (FS massage places, etc) are so vulnerable to shut down that it doesn't make sense to share their locations openly in the forum. So that's where the need for a 'service' comes in. I mean, I know that you have a very good idea where everything is here, you have The Knowledge. So if there was some guy who PM'd me interested in seeing a bunch of places, including locals ones, at different prices, I would say, you should speak to ... Tom. But also letting him know that you do charge a fee for that. Last edited by Wendella; 15-11-2015 at 10:18 AM. |
