We humans are physical animals (so am I) thus most of the time we just love to see "perfect" things. (I love to look at pretty and shapely girls too!)

My views on this kind of matter are simple - you have to accept both her mental and physical attributes if you wish for a long lasting relationship.

1) If she has a barbie-type figure but mentally, she is a bimbo, or maybe she is a shrew, a bitch, can you accept her character?

2) If she looks 'fugly' but she is such a caring, loving person and is smart, capable, etc,. all the good things in the world - can you accept her whole-heartedly and not have thoughts of "if only"?

In scenario 1), do remember that the physical part of the relationship, sex and everything, lasts probably 30mins-1 hr most of the time, and you are in "heaven" during this time. However, the rest of the time, you are in "hell" because you cannot tahan how she talks, how she behaves, how she nags, how she have crazy outbursts, etc. Can you accept it? Or does it agonizes you to the max?

In scenario 2), you may appreciate the mental aspects of the person, her intellect, etc., but half the time, your eyes are roving and you are constantly on the lookout for beautiful physical specimens around, or maybe, the sex part of the relationship is not satisfying. You constantly have a nagging doubt in your mind about "if only she looks like this or that". Sooner or later, you will probably be making comparisons amongst the spouses of friends or relatives.

Can a long term relationship be based on either of the scenarios above? My advice is - look for someone who has reasonable standards in both mental and physical aspects. She need not be a super model lookalike but she must not tip the fugly scale. She need not be a brain surgeon but definitely someone whose intellect and temperament you find yourself comfortable with.
