Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings
Bros, don't know if anyone saw this??
Liverpool ties strong for Atletico star Torres tribalfooball.com - April 23, 2007 Liverpool chances of landing Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres have moved up a notch after revelations over the weekend. The Sun says Torres - a summer transfer target for Anfield boss Rafa Benitez - has the Kop's famous 'You'll never walk alone' slogan on the inside of his skipper's armband. The 22-year-old's secret was revealed by accident when the armband came loose during Atletico's 2-0 defeat at Real Sociedad on Saturday. And it has fuelled talk that Torres has his heart set on a move to Anfield at the end of the season. But Atletico insist Torres will not be sold for a penny less than the £27 million transfer clause in his contract Sorry if it has been posted before, cheers...........e |

This will be the fifth meeting of the sides in Europe and Luis Garcia, in the Semi-Final second leg in 2005, is the only player to score. The Reds have won 25 games in the European Cup since Rafa Benitez took charge, losing just eight of the 41 games. Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings
Managers using their head to gain advantage for crunch clash
By Paul Walker 25 April 2007 The Journal Rafael Benitez and Jose Mourinho are locked in a mental battle ahead of tonight's Champions League semi-final ( both are using mind games to unsettle the opposition. Liverpool boss Benitez (pictured left) turned up the heat on Chelsea by claiming the tournament was now the Blues' priority ( as he aims to repeat the semi-final triumph he masterminded two years ago on the way to the club's fifth European Cup Final victory. By highlighting the Blues' desire to win the world's major club trophy, he has subtly implied that they are likely to fail to complete a hat-trick of Premiership crowns following their draw at Newcastle on Sunday. Chelsea's Mourinho (right), meanwhile, said Liverpool would do all they could to get top scorer Didier Drogba booked ( before claiming it was the Reds who only had one prize in their sights this season. The Chelsea coach is clearly on a roll after Sunday's boast new rules in the game prevented penalties being awarded against Manchester United at Old Trafford. But while Mourinho says that revenge is not on his mind, he was quick to point out that Liverpool must be favourites because of Chelsea's injuries, fatigued players and a dire disciplinary situation. Joe Cole and Lassana Diarra, like Drogba, are just one booking away from missing the second leg and Mourinho believes Rafa Benitez's side will make the most of it. Mourinho said: "The fact is they don't have players on yellow cards. They had an easy group in the Champions League and had a chance to clean cards. "For example Dirk Kuyt getting a card in the last minute against PSV was because he didn't want to play in the second game to be clean for the rest of the competition. "We have Essien suspended and a lot of players with two yellow cards and it would not surprise me if they chase Drogba for 90 minutes to try and get him suspended for the second game. "So even on that they are on a different level than us. They have more conditions than us, but we will see who wins. Our intention is to play the game and try to win." And the Portuguese coach went on to outline just why Liverpool were in a better situation to win the two-legged tie than his side. He added: "Two years ago Liverpool were just playing for the Champions League and this season they are doing the same. Two years ago, before we played them, we were fighting to be champions. This season we are fighting to be champions again. "We can say that our opponent has been preparing for this game for a long time and we have been preparing for it since yesterday. Fatigue is obvious. Everybody knows that in this moment of the season, maximum power is absolutely crucial. In this moment many things are decided by that and not with quality. "If you ask me about the favourites, Liverpool should be the favourites. In the last three seasons in the Premiership, Chelsea have more than 60 points more than Liverpool. That's a lot. If they are a great team in knockout competitions, we have to admit that and praise them for it. They are good in knockout. "But if you play only one competition for half of the season, then you have great conditions. Since January they have played only Champions League. So they arrive into this crucial moment of the season in a great situation." While Benitez maintained he "does not like playing mind games" he managed the perfect response to Mourinho's claims his side would try to get Drogba suspended by commenting: "It had not crossed my mind, but maybe it has Mourinho's ( because that is what Chelsea did two seasons ago to Xabi Alonso." In the semi-final of 2005, Eidur Gudjohnsen was accused by Liverpool of diving to get Alonso booked, thus ruling him out of the second match at Anfield which Liverpool won 1-0 to go into the Istanbul final. Benitez said: "Maybe that is what Jose did to Alonso. But if that was a message to the referee (Markus Merk) then I can say that if it is a yellow card, that is what it should be. "If it is red, then also that is what it should be. I have confidence in Markus Merk, he is a very good referee and I am happy with the referees at this level." Earlier, Benitez had started the mind games. saying he believed Jose Mourinho's objectives had shifted towards the one trophy that means more than anything else to the west Londoners. He said: "Can Chelsea win the title now? I do not know, they will go right to the end, that is clear. But Manchester United have done a great job, a fantastic season. "The Champions League will be Chelsea's priority ( they will know that it is the major competition now for them and they will be really focused on that. "The Premiership title is important to them certainly, they have won the last two, but now I feel they will thinking more about the Champions League." Benitez revealed his squad were showing the hunger for more success of their own, adding: "I believe the present at Liverpool is really good and the future can be better." Tonight's teams (from) chelsea: Cech, Cudicini, Hilario, Ferreira, Geremi, Diarra, Terry, Boulahrouz, A Cole, Bridge, Makelele, Essien, Mikel, Lampard, Drogba, Shevchenko, Kalou, Wright-Phillips, J Cole. LIVERPOOL: Reina, Finnan, Arbeloa, Carragher, Hyypia, Agger, Riise, Pennant, Gerrard, Alonso, Sissoko, Mascherano, Fowler, Kuyt, Bellamy, Crouch, Dudek, Zenden. |

Quite a bit of sloppy play in the first half. Second half started pretty good. Gerard could have scored with that left footer. Wasted. Hope we pull one back soon. REDs, all the way !!!! Cheers |

Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings
The absence of Finnan was costly,we should be better with Riise as LM & Arbeloa as LB. Although his poker face didn't tell much,Rafa seemed to be extremely confident that we can turn it back at Anfield, leaving it so late to put in Pennant.
Great saves both from Cezh & Reina,at the end of the day,the man proposes, the God disposes. |

If he had been in, then Arbeloa would play LB & Riise can push up, so that we didn't hafta see miserable Zenden in this game!!! IMHO, even if Arbeloa has to be as RB & Riise in LB, then I'd still use Pennant in LW instead of the usually & totally ineffective Zenden!!!
