Business hotels like 7 days, 如家，汉廷 are pretty reasonable price and decent place to stay. If you are coming as a family, you can also stay at condo hotels or service apts

A lot of discussions about this Lotus Supermarket. It's the 北京易初莲花超市。 There are several 易初莲花 stores in BJ - 朝阳十里堡，太平庄，远大路，五道口，etc. I used to stay 2 years at 万柳 and did my regular shopping at the 易初莲花超市 at the nearby 金源 store at 远大路. This is the biggest shopping centre in BJ called 金源时代广场。On the 5th floor, there are plenty of restaurants, 时代俱乐部 and 今日良缘, a Cat 700 ktv. Here you can find models, dancers and some part timers from 北京电影学院 which is located nearby. They even have magic show and 东北二人转 performances several shows a day, pretty nice place to shop and have fun.

You can get a sim card from airport or any small stores at the road side. The most popular card is 神州行, you can top up in any cities in China. Beware that some cards do not allow you to top up in other cities, then it's very troublesome to top up. To call back SG, you add 12593+0065+phone no. This is IP call from China mobile - cheap and good quality.

Can't help you on sauna as I normally go southern china for sauna. BJ sauna is expensive and not as good service as SZ or DG.
