Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
what can i say? ferdinand was back in the starting line-up. and guess what sir alex did? rested the 'new' england right-back smalling and moved jones into that postion!
and boy did jones play well there! now even sir alex will have a headache to choose between smalling and jones for the right back position! am glad that cleverley did not suffer a broken foot. it was really a bad challenge from davies. really surprised that davies managed to stay on the pitch for the remainder of the game. he should have seen red for the bad tackles on cleverley and evra! anderson too put on a great show with his passes and runs. chicharito....his movement and awareness for the opening goal is simply amazing! rooney.....yes, he's on fire! wonder if it has anything to do with his hair implants? glory glory man utd!

Hahaha! That's a good one! Read that the implants cost 30k British pounds! But it would be worth every single pound if Rooney continues hitting the target (I mean goals ).

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
3rd choice goalie Kuszczak hits out at United
Tomasz Kuszczak says he is "angry and disappointed" at the way he has been treated by Manchester United after failing to secure a summer move. The Poland international goalkeeper had been hoping to leave the Red Devils during the close season in search of regular first-team football. Kuszczak has made just 61 appearances during five years at Old Trafford and is now third choice behind new arrival David de Gea and Anders Lindegaard. The 29-year-old was linked with a return to former club West Bromwich Albion and had expressed an interest in staying in England. However, Kuszczak claims United wanted a £4million transfer fee and he is unhappy that he was unable to clinch a transfer before the window closed last month. "I am angry and disappointed with the way I am treated," said Kuszczak in The Sun. "I had a few good offers. The problem was the club who wanted to sell me for £4m."

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
Rooney is our Pele - Fergie
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has echoed the club's fans by labelling Wayne Rooney the white Pele. It has been sung by the Stretford End for a few years now, in recognition of the 25-year-old's status as a player of special talent. And, in responding to an observation from Benfica coach Jorge Jesus that Rooney is "more Brazilian or Argentinian" than English in the way he plays the game ahead of tomorrow night's Champions League encounter with United at the Stadium of Light, Ferguson made his own comparison. "Look at Pele," said Ferguson. "He was a very aggressive attacker as well who could look after himself. So can Rooney. There are similarities that way in strength, speed and determination. "But he is white, completely white." In fact, Ferguson thinks of Rooney as the very best of British, boasting the same desire, work ethic and talent as United legends of old. "Wayne is a typical British player. But there have been British players who have great qualities that made them great players. "(Paul) Gascoigne, George Best, Bobby Charlton and Denis Law. "The similarities are that the boy has great courage. He wants to play all the time. He has incredible stamina. These are added extras to the talent he has." That talent has been on show to great effect so far this season, as Rooney has scored eight times in four Premier League games, leaving him just three adrift of his tally from last year. Jesus has been watching the England striker closely. And he is adamant Rooney has no peer in his native land. "Rooney is the best British player so far," he said. "But he plays like an Argentinian or Brazilian. He can decide a match in the last third of the field. We will have to pay great attention to him tomorrow." As Rooney has proved in the past, paying attention to someone and actually stopping them are two entirely different things. On present form, it is just a matter of time before the former Everton star flies past his personal record haul of 34, achieved before suffering the ankle injury he suffered against Bayern Munich in March 2010 that reduced his powers for almost 12 months. Indeed, Ferguson feels it should be a twin target. For, as Javier Hernandez marked his first start of the season with a double in the five-goal destruction of Bolton on Saturday, Ferguson sees no reason for the pair to stop scoring. "I am sure his best ever goals season is a target for him," said Ferguson. "He doesn't come out at the start of a season and think that way but it happened two years ago when the target was to go over 30 and he reached it very quickly. "If he gets to that target again I will be absolutely delighted because with Javier's ability to score we could have two goalscorers well above 25." Ferguson is still mulling over his options for United's first Champions League game since they were overwhelmed by Barcelona in last season's final. Darren Fletcher, Ryan Giggs, Park Ji-sung and last season's joint Golden Boot winner Dimitar Berbatov have yet to start a game this term. Having left Rio Ferdinand at home as a precaution and with Nemanja Vidic yet to start training after suffering a calf injury in the opening-weekend win at West Brom, Ferguson needs to pay careful attention to his line-up ahead of such a packed fixture list. "The season starts when the Champions League comes around because then you are into games all the time," he said. "We have the game tomorrow, Chelsea on Sunday, Leeds United next Tuesday, Stoke away the following Saturday, so obviously the squad will be used. "Rio has stayed behind as a precaution and Vidic has not started training yet, so that will be at least two weeks. "I have not decided about tomorrow yet but it wouldn't worry me to play the team that has been doing well." Although he has been omitted from the roll-call of young stars who have electrified the season so far, Anderson has responded to extra responsibility in midfield with a series of effective displays. At 23, the Brazilian is hardly a veteran. On his return to Portugal, though, the former Porto midfielder is proving to be a very handy replacement for Paul Scholes. "It has been a great season for me so far," he admitted. "Hopefully I can follow in Paul Scholes' footsteps."

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
CHAMPIONS LEAGUE Group C: Giggs earns Man Utd a point at Benfica
Thursday, September 15, 2011 5 hours ago Manchester United earned a hard fought point in Portugal against Benfica as they came from behind to draw 1-1 in the Stadium of Light. Sir Alex Ferguson made a host of changes for this Champions League game and certainly in the first-half, for all their possession, it was Benfica who looked the more dangerous, and it was only after the break that United imposed themselves more on the tie. In last season’s competition the visitor’s went eight hours before conceding a goal, but this time around they fell behind after less than half-an-hour. Certainly the goal was deserved by Benfica as Nicolas Gaitan knocked the ball into Oscar Cardozo who cleverly turned Jonny Evans before firing home past Anders Lindegaard. The home side remained on-top until three minutes from the break when United levelled with their first chance of the game. Out of nothing Antonio Valencia, who was United’s most impressive performer of the game, turned the ball into the path of Ryan Giggs who strode forward and hit a glorious rising shot into the back of the net for his 29th European goal in his 22nd season with the Reds. United edged the second-half even if Benfica had chances to take the lead as Lindegaard saved from Agudo Nolito and Nicolas Gaitan late on. Giggs again went close but Wayne Rooney was well marshalled by the Benfica rearguard and looked a frustrated figure at times, but overall both teams will be happy with a point. Referee: Damir Skomina (SVN) Venue: Stadium of Light Attendance: 59,671 Benfica scorers: Cardozo 24 Man Utd scorers: Giggs 42 ASKS: Did Sir Alex Ferguson almost pay the price for making too many changes to a winning team? Yellow cards: Rooney (MU), Carrick (MU), Aimar (BEN), Pereira (BEN), Gaitan(BEN) |

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
Fergie: De Gea will face Blues
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson praised Anders Lindegaard's display in the draw with Benfica but insists David De Gea is his No 1. Lindegaard impressed on his debut in the Champions League as United came from behind to draw in Lisbon, with Ryan Giggs equalising after Oscar Cardozo's opener. Lindegaard's performance highlighted question marks over big-money summer signing De Gea, though, following the Spaniard's hotly-debated start to the season. Asked whether Lindegaard had given him a selection dilemma in choosing between he and De Gea in goal against Chelsea this weekend, Ferguson told ITV1: "No, not at all. "David De Gea will play on Sunday. That was the understanding we had before the game, and it doesn't change. "I don't know why you ask these questions, you're just looking for stupid little things. Anyway...it proves we have two terrific goalkeepers." Ferguson said of the match: "Going a goal down but coming back was the good part of the game for us, in the first 30 minutes of the second half we played very well, maybe we should have finished it then. "In the last 15 minutes they came into it and Anders made two terrific saves to keep us into it." Lindegaard was pleased with his night's work. "It was very amusing, great fun and that's the most important part of why you play football - fun," he told ITV1. "I enjoyed it very much, it was a great night. It's a great stadium to play at, a very loud audience and also I could hear our own fans which was nice. This is why I came to United, to play these kind of games. "There's always a bit of nerves and if there isn't then it's not that enjoyable. It makes me feel alive. I'm satisfied with my performance, just a bit sad that I didn't save the first goal." Asked about challenging for the first-team spot, Lindegaard said: "What answer do you expect to that question? I've said a thousand times before I'm not here to pick my nose."

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
Well it should be another nails bitting game with Chelsea on Sunday night. SAF take this game with Chelsea very seriously seeing him resting most of the important players during mid week's Champion League. As SAF said, the winning margin will be small and dont think he can too wrong.
Watching tonight's early game I can only shook my head seeing Arsenal go down because of its 2 own goals. Sad. They will bounce back I am sure. |

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
What a game and what more can you ask for in terms of entertainment value.
David de Gea 2 fantastic save during the first half, Nani's super strike, Rooney and Berbatov's miss and the greatest miss of all comes from Torres. Rooney again found the next. I wonder if he (Rooney) had score from the spot kick would he had pass the ball to Berbatov during the dying minutes and instead try to round Chec for his 3rd hattrick in 3 games? I hope Hernandez's injury is not too serious from A. Cole's challenge. Bros, you may not like it but I conclude that Chelsea actually played better in some stages especially the second half. |
