rafa signed crouch to put in the touch that will send the ball into the net. and who knows, maybe liverpool's style of play will have a new and improved look with the young and dashing fernando torres next season.

crouch is signed more for his knockdowns so that the energetic midfielders can run into the box late to pick up his cushioned headers... not so much as put the ball in the net. well, at least, that was what rafa had in mind when he signed crouch.

but for torres, i just dont see him that highly rated somehow. his stats does not merit that kind of price. i feel that he is rated highly by athletico madrid due to his cult status but price wise in the footballing world, i feel that he is overpriced.

Yeah but bro, how many well-known strikers are there who will come cheap? Nearly 17m for Bent. Owen...well, let's not get into that. Villa will not be coming unless he wants to leave Valencia and he seems happy there atm. Same for Eto'o.

So it's not that far-fetched to spend that sort of money on Torres. He's young and already a club captain so we are really buying someone for his talent and potential, not for his CV. We brought this on ourselves, haven't we? Demanding instant success and brand names.

other then those few names mentioned, i believe it was reported that the Ajax striker, Huntellar or something like tat is/was on the radar of Rafa too, not too sure how Torres can perform in EPL, hopefully he can bring more to Liverpool then Morientes, who actually have a better CV then most of current Spanish strikers.

many other players are over priced too, and overpaid. the money some clubs pay to get the players (+ salary) can leave them hanging on such a tight purse, the whole club takes a big fall when the parent company hit the bad times.

but at the media money for the clubs seems to be getting bigger and bigger though, if i dont try my best buy a 50 inch LCD TV to put at home, i feel sorry for the scv subscription i am paying.

huntelaar seems to be a better choice in this case cos he is a proven scorer although again, he is coming from a different league (pun intended...) but at least, he is banging in the goals but for torres, he was never prolific at any level. just felt that pool needs more goals and huntelaar might be a better choice. i m also quite sure that he wont cost 27mil pounds.

which is why some clubs have taken to employ professionals outside of football to help make sure that clubs r run like a business, not just spending without knowing where the money is going to come from.

as for me, i have already cancelled my subscription for cable tv at my parents' home and my new place, i dont intend to subscribe. so when u get yr 50' LCD tv, can i go watch at your place instead? i will bring the holsten lager, if i can find. oh by the way, while u r at it, i would suggest that the 65' sharp aquos looks damn good!!! well, thought since u r already buying, buy something that even the blind can watch lor... kekeke...

£26M KOPS TORRES

LIVERPOOL will smash their transfer record after finally agreeing a deal to sign Spanish striker Fernando Torres.

Mirror Sport understands that Atletico Madrid have accepted in principle a fee of £26.5million.

Torres is currently on holiday, but it is believed he will fly back next week to complete the transfer despite protests in the street from angry Atletico fans. Liverpool's previous transfer record was the £14m they paid for Djibril Cisse three years ago.

But the Frenchman is unlikely to be part of the deal, despite the hope of Anfield boss Rafa Benitez of using him in part exchange for Torres.

Atletico had considered taking striker Cisse as a £5m makeweight, but instead they have turned to former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan to fill the hole left by Torres.

The club last night agreed a fee of £14m with Villarreal for the Uruguay forward.

Atletico are still interested in Liverpool's Spanish winger Luis Garcia but any deal will be separate to the Torres move.

It's probably until next week before the deal can be officially announced ... mainly becoz he's still away on his holidays. Only when he gets back, can the remaining two issues be resolved:
1) Athletico Madrid wants him to physically "pacify" the fanatical fans that it is his own wish to turn his back on them, but for the greener Anfield pastures
2) Liverpool still needs to meet him face-to-face to iron out the personal terms, plus going through the medical

The deal shows the intent of our new owners to compete at the very top & after this Rafa can concentrate on getting the quality winger(s) & listening to offers for players like Bellamy & Paletta.

BTW some say our Rafa looks younger with the goatee

i read somewhere that Liverpool gonna sell Luis Garcia, Cisse and Bellamy, all for just a total of 16 million pounds, in order to ease the financial burden of 27 million pounds for Torres!!
