First of all can I know if the 4th Gen test is considered as a Combo Duo Test?

If yes, why is AFA offering only $40 for the test while other clinic is offering $150.

Yeah I agree with what you say, the best results are still on the third and sixth month.

But apparently I it seems like the 4th Gen have high accuracy too.

According to the US CDC Updated Recommendation on the Lab Diagnosis of HIV infections, P24 antigens become detectable in the blood from 14 to 20 days post infection.

That is why some people say the Combo test is very accurate at D14.

What we do not know is the effect of PEP on the accuracy of said tests. There are theories that PEP can prolong the window period but this is yet to be proven.

I am just hoping that truvada and isentress will be effective on me as well. There's nothing I can do now but hope for the best on 20th Aug which is day 29 of my PEP and I will be taking a test.

life is a gamble. you make certain decisions, you live with the consequences.

but think of the possible aftermath. even with drugs available to extend your life, the stigma associated with it isn't gonna be any good. moreoever, companies prior to hiring you would need you to clear the body check up first; of which I heard tests for hiv amongst the usual battery of tests.

Thank you for that. There is also the reason that AFA gets funding and donations so they can subsidize their testing.

What is more important is finding someone who is trained and familiar with HIV testing to do the test for you.

Tell you a scary story. In my clinics, we have seen MANY cases of patients who got tested at other Anonymous HIV testing clinics (NOT AFA. I will not mention which clinics for ethical reasons). Because the doctor doing the test for them was inexperienced (likely a locum doctor), the doctor added too much blood and/or chase buffer causing the test to turn out FALSE POSITIVE. To make matters worse, they recommended the patients take ANOTHER COMBO TEST instead of sending blood for Western Blot like they should have. This costs the patients ANOTHER $150 when the Western Blot is FREE!! Of course the doctor then screwed up the second Combo test making appear false positive again!

These patients then come to see me literally shitting bricks and when we did the test for them, it was CLEARLY NEGATIVE.

So they wasted money and more importantly went through a period of extreme stress all because the doctor who did the HIV test for them did not know what he/she was doing.

In the past few weeks alone we already saw 3 of such cases from 2 different clinics. In the past years we have seen many many much more.

So please be cautious. When you go to an Anonymous HIV testing clinic, perhaps you want to ask the counter staff if the doctor in attendance is the regular doctor or a part-time locum doctor. Or you can ask them if the doctor in attendance is experienced in doing HIV tests. Or if you see the doctor fumbling around and not knowing what is where, you may want to query the results. Honestly, I don't know what is the best way to ensure the doctor is doing the test right.

As you can see this irks me quite a bit. It already takes a lot of courage for a patient to see a doctor for HIV testing. Doctors should be professional and responsible enough to do it right.
