Hi, bro, I wonder if the JJ Entertainment and Diamond Entertainment are the same club? As I went there last month and were accompanied by the waiter outside to Diamond, and they told me JJ is actually Diamond, JJ is just the old name and now changed to Diamond. The best ST hotel is SUMMER MOTEL (near Shwedagon Pagoda) at 15,000 kyat : aircon/tv/relatively clean/largish rooms... do not confuse with Summer PALACE Hotel (which is MUCH more expensive)

What the exchange rate in USD? I heard it can changed quite drastically within a few days..

It has varied in a small band for past few months

BEST PLACE to change money is the Money Changer in the main lobby of CENTRAL HOTEL next to Traders Hotel
They have a very reasonable fixed daily rate AND give BRAND NEW KYAT NOTES : in return they require brand new USD notes

I also noted that the airport has excellent rates BUT am not sure if they charge commission etc

One last "tip" : the best place to get an international call pre-paid SIM Card is at the Yangon International Airport Arrival Lounge after clearing Customs at the telephone rental booth. The daily rental charge is USD 2 ( and a CASH USD 50 refundable deposit is also to be pre-paid) and while local call talktime is cheap & payable in Kyat, international calls are costly and are to be pre-paid in USD. Smart-phone SIM rental is $ 4 per day

I find that the airport forex counter (KBZ Bank, if not mistaken) just after immigration control is the best place to change your forex. they give brand new kyat notes and the best rate in the country. The only problem is they restrict you to only US$1,000 which might not be enough if your stay is longer than a few days as most transactions are in cash there. Rates are lower the further one venture outside of Yangon.

Hi SS, can only rent the SIM card, where can we buy the pre paid SIM card? I use M1 service for roaming in myanmar. But want to get a pre-paid SIM card, any idea best place to buy one?

I have read many articles that BUYING a pre-paid SIM runs into thousands of dollars as quantities are controlled by the Gahment ... the rules are meant to change ... best is to check at Int'l Airport Arrival lounge at the SIM booth

just get a pre paid sim card from any handphone shop. u can go to PHONEKING WHICH isss opp YUZANA plaza. they will help u as the owner is nice chap who deals in Singapore.

Are we talking about a pre-paid SIM for making INTERNATIONAL calls bro Rauldon ?? I was under the (mis)impression that international calls have to be pre-paid in USD with a rental of US$ 2 per day

Pre-paid sim card is top up with kyats for local calls and USD FEC for international calls. You can purchase the two types of top ups. Getting the SIM, seems expensive if you go the legal way, about USD300 pre registration. Will find out more in my coming trip. I use M1 to call for the time being.

Exactly the impression that I was under : the legal way for obtaining a INTL SIM used to cost quite a bit of USD thus I just rented a SIM at US$ 2 per day : shall await A-J's report
