Why do you want to retire in HCMC? Traffic jam, air pollution, noise pollution, etc...What is the attraction?

I was telling my wife that we will retire in Vietnam when we are old. Find a villa near the beach or river, employ a few maids + 1 driver and enjoy the slower pace of life there. Although i still go HCMC monthly, but the feeling is different from staying there. Really missed my few years there when life was easy , got a few maids (although i have 2 maids now but they cost much more than the maids in HCMC) + guard for my house. Ride bike go CoopMart, happy happy go massage, eat goat breast, morning go their local market and buy damm cheap fresh fish , veg and meat. Those were the days....

Re: Understanding Vietnamese Life Partner

Fresh Food in the local market very cheap...let me give you an idea...pork lean meat 10k vnd, 2 pcs egg plant less than 10k vnd...carrot 2k vnd, 4 pcs potatoes 6k vnd, kang kong one bunch 10k vnd, kampong chicken whole 80k vnd...i really like the chicken because the taste was what i used to eat when i was young which no longer can get in sin...one day food can cost as low as 50k to 100k vnd enough for 4 pax...

I know someone who operates a Cam Do biz, and he accepts only gold as
collateral(very secure). He charges 2% monthly interest. Biz is so good that he only takes 3 days off during Tet holidays; he's afraid of losing his customers to his competitiors if he takes long leave.

Living in Vietnam is definitely more interesting and colourful than Sinkapore.
The beauty of it all is that the cost of living is only about 35% that of Sinkapore. You have the choice to live like a pauper or a king, and yet be happy and contented.

If you don't like HCMC, the countryside or seaside is only 1-2hrs away.

hahhah, to start up in HCM is seriously not too good for kids. Let me share with you how HCMC makes life difficult for my wife and i.

(1) My twin gals were often sick as the air quality and pollution there is seriously very bad. My twins were regulars at the FV hospital.

(2) when its time for education , international schools cost a bomb. Be prepared to pay more than $1K USD each month, unless you want your kids to study in local schools.

(3) Too much tieng viet is bad for your kid, unless you don't plan to come back singapore anymore. My kids were taught tieng viet when they were in HCMC and when they returned to singapore for education, they were very much slower than their peers. It took them 2 whole years to catch up. I always believe in this, tieng viet is only used in Vietnam and not the rest of the world. Thus, tieng viet has not much commercial value. My children do not speak tieng viet now and they only speak english and mandarin. I want them to master the two main languages before i will consider to let them learn tieng viet. Vietnam's economy, as compared to other chinese speaking terrorities, is still very small. Plus my experiences there tells me that there are too much undesirable cultures linked to it.

Bros may disagree with me as you are now very much in love with the gals and clubs there, but when you start a family and have kids, you may just agree with my views.
