Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
Hmm... hasn't Mr Terry gotten it the other way round? Giggs can show Mr Terry a few medals to show him who's the loaner and who's the loanee....
Terry: Title 'on loan' with United Wed 04 Jul, 05:30 PM Chelsea and England captain John Terry has warned Manchester United that the Premier League crown is only on loan to them.Chelsea failed to win the title for a third successive year under Jose Mourinho last season as United re-emerged as the dominate force in the English game. The London club endured a season ravaged by injuries to key personnel but Terry insists the heartache of losing out on the title will provide them the spur to win it back. Terry said: "Just talking about it makes the blood boil and things like that. "But you assess it and we haven't had a bad season due to things that have happened around the club with injuries and stuff like that. "When you look at it like that, maybe you can look at it in a positive way. "There is no point in saying 'if we had players back' or 'if this didn't happen or that didn't happen we would have beaten Manchester United'. "We haven't and that makes me more determined to come back next year and really fight and push Man United and get the trophy back we feel is ours," he told Chelsea TV.

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
United close in on Tevez as Ferguson leaves rivals in the shade
Manchester United last night appeared to have won the race to sign Carlos Tévez. The West Ham United forward, who is playing in the Copa America in Venezuela, has told his Argentina teammates that a deal has been agreed for him to play at Old Trafford next season. Tévez has been coveted by some of the top European clubs this summer, including Inter Milan, Liverpool, Chelsea and Real Madrid, after his rousing performances and seven goals were largely responsible for keeping West Ham in the Premiership last season. Their survival was ensured when his perseverance allowed him to score the only goal in the defeat of United at Old Trafford on a dramatic final day of the season in May. It is likely that Tévez will move to United initially on a 12-month loan deal, with a fee of about £4 million payable to Kia Joorabchian, the businessman who owns the economic rights to the player, and wages in excess of £3 million. Sir Alex Ferguson, the United manager, would also want the option of making the move permanent at the end of next season. On the day that Liverpool broke their transfer record by completing the £20.2 million signing of Fernando Torres, the Spain striker, from Atlético Madrid, the capture of Tévez, 23, would be a resounding signal of intent from United that they intend resolutely to defend their title and make a concerted attempt to win the Champions League. United have already committed more than £50 million this summer on an England midfield player and two of the best young attacking talents in Europe. Owen Hargreaves arrived for £17 million from Bayern Munich and was joined by Nani, the 20-year-old Sporting Lisbon winger, and Anderson, the 19-year-old FC Porto playmaker, with the two deals understood to be worth projected figures of £17.3 million and £20.4 million respectively. Even Chelsea have had no answer to the speed and extravagance with which United have gone about their business this summer. With Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo already in their ranks, the addition of Tévez would give Ferguson a formidable array of firepower. Despite the problems that West Ham encountered after signing Tévez – they were fined £5.5 million in April for breaching third-party agreements – it would be possible to structure a contract that was acceptable to the Premier League. Javier Mascherano, the Argentina midfield player, moved from West Ham to Liverpool in January under similar circumstances. Should United sign Tévez on a permanent deal, they are likely to have to pay in the region of £35 million. Inter had offered about £30 million before they pulled out of negotiations. Ferguson has been looking for a reliable goalscorer and had considered Samuel Eto’o, of Barcelona, Dimitar Berbatov, the Bulgarian who made such an impression last season with Tottenham Hotspur, and Nicolas Anelka, of Bolton Wanderers. The arrival of Tévez could hasten the sale of Alan Smith, who has been made surplus to requirements.

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
Fergie signs Tevez
Carlos Tevez last night agreed to join Manchester United in a permanent deal worth more than £20million. The move will be completed next week, subject to any challenge from West Ham, who still claim to own the registration of the player who saved them from relegation last season. However, West Ham have no contract with Tevez and his owner, businessman Kia Joorabchian, which has left the player and his representative free to negotiate a transfer with other clubs. The news, breaking in South America last night, means that United will take their summer buying past the £70m mark, confirming them as the biggest spenders in world football. Tevez was once fined when playing for Brazil's Corinthians for turning up to an official press conference wearing a Manchester United shirt. He will fly from Argentina's Copa America base here to join United's pre-season programme. "He just cannot contain his excitement at the news," a source close to the Argentina camp confirmed. "Tevez has been concerned about his future, worried about where he may play next season and now he is joining the biggest club in the world! This is massive news." Tevez is best friends with United's Argentine defender Gabriel Heinze and was a guest at their end-of-season title party in a London club. Days later, Tevez scored at Old Trafford on the final day of the season to give West Ham the 1-0 win that kept them in the Premiership, but his controversial transfer has been the subject of a Premier League investigation, which was concluded on Tuesday. United were hoping to keep the confirmation of the transfer quiet until the furore died down and the deal will not be officially declared until the middle of next week. The official transfer fee — and wages — are still to be confirmed. United have already signed Portuguese winger Nani and Brazilian midfielder Anderson on expensive five-year contracts. The pair join the Premier League champions from Sporting Lisbon and Porto respectively, while England midfielder Owen Hargreaves completed his move from Bayern Munich. The total cost of those deals is £50m. United have also made Polish keeper Tomasz Kuszczak a full signing after he played last season on loan from second division West Bromwich. With multi-million pound backing from their American investors, United have been flexing their financial muscle, but the signing of Tevez is their most ambitious. The little striker has told friends that he is "very excited" about his future, though he has refused to confirm his next destination. Tevez has also been linked with Inter Milan and Arsenal, although West Ham had been hoping to keep him. Tevez told Sportsmail in an exclusive interview last season: "If I can play at West Ham in such a difficult position, then it's easier to play for a bigger club, with players such as Rooney, Ronaldo or Drogba. "I would be capable of playing at any English team, because the English game is no longer a problem for me." He then went on to save West Ham, following his controversial "loan" move from Corinthians, a club he joined in a South American transfer record of $22m. As well as being fined for turning up in an official press conference wearing a United shirt, he was also punished for turning up for a game in Bermuda shorts — and for fighting with team-mates. Then the goals started and he was branded a hero. The fans copied his braided hair cut, followed his celebration dance craze and bought the replica shirts. It was claimed that 4,000 were sold at every home game. He was elected captain by his team-mates and he would lead out his team with his baby daughter, Florencia, in his arms, producing a dummy from his sock when he scored a goal. Then, when a website opened in his name, it broke the previous record held by Ronaldinho by 4,000 hits. Tevez received 16,000 hits and the local newspapers called it "the birth of Tevezmania". It sounds like a marketing dream for Manchester United.

Yes, agree with you on this.
Saha should go rather than Smith. But rumours are that SAF will sell Smith and Heinze to raise funds for the loan signing of Tevez. I hope Heinze doesn't betray United by going to Pool though.

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
I'm not in favour of Tevez leh, but i think Ferguson chose him because he can also play as attacking midfielder, like Rooney. Tevez is not all and out striker like Defoe, i thought Man U buying Defoe man... We lack a 100% striker since Van left.
Anyway, lets hope he can settle well in Man U. Go MAN U!!!!! |

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
Hmmm... Tevez wasn't my preferred choice either... I think he's a pretty good player, but IMHO Berbatov has got better touch and skill and is a better fit with Rooney.
But well, SAF has been right a lot more than wrong, so we'll see...

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours
This is only a rumour ? Found this:
Tevez cool over £20m United link Carlos Tevez has played down reports suggesting he is close to joining Manchester United in a reported £20million move. Click here for 2007/08 Football Specials The West Ham forward, who is currently in Venezuela with Argentina for the Copa America campaign, has been linked to several clubs in England and abroad but is keen to remain in the Premier League. "As far as I am aware, I have not received any official offers," Tevez told Argentina national newspaper Clarin. "Once an offer arrives then we will see. But the fact that Real Madrid, Internazionale and Manchester United are interested in me makes me proud." Tevez was instrumental in keeping the Hammers in the Premier League last season and admits he would not be disappointed if he was to remain at Upton Park for a second straight campaign. "If I have to stay at West Ham, it would be fine," he said. "I am happy there and people love me very much."
