Dear Dr Lee,

Please refer to my emails to your colleagues below.

Will be grateful if you can look into my request as I am not able to obtain any response from your corporate affairs. These inefficiencies have been a recurring problem in your hospital even before your appointment during the tenure of the previous CEO.

Long waits to obtain a decent appointment, 5-6 hours just to consult with a doctor at A&E, overnight waits for an available bed, abrupt cancellation of appointments and its rescheduling and lastly, resignation of specialist consultants to the private practice are all but a norm for CGH and TTSH.

The next foreign doctor or MO who takes over care or report writing usually does not bother to check with his predecessor, the full facts of the case thus contributing to the conflicting diagnosis and causing confusion to the poor patients.

I certainly hope you are not taking this in your stride but seriously enough to want to reduce if not resolve this with your “Eastern Health Alliance” and MOH. I seriously do not know the rationale behind forming another health cluster such as yours which adds on rather than subtracts the existing problems. This system also creates undue stress for MSWs across all restructured hospitals who have to do means-testing twice if not thrice as your MediFund cannot be utilised at National Health Care Group, Jurong Health Services etc.

I believe it will be more productive for MOH and its subsidiaries to be working towards a overhaul of the health care system like LTA did for the busing instead of spending unnecessary time, effort and speed involving in “political assassination”. I personally would like to see what the new GPC for health and his deputy are capable and made of as I last remembered in SGH, there are 2 government MPs but thrice the problems.
Yours faithfully,

De Costa
