News Singapore 'Double happiness': Couple has two babies within SG50 year By Melissa Zhu POSTED: 08 Dec 2015 15:22 Mdm Lydiawati Ibrahim and her family at Gleneagles Hospital, one day after she gave birth to her son. (Photo: Melissa Zhu) A A SINGAPORE: When Mohammad Rifly Asyraaf was born on Monday (Dec 7), he was the second baby his mother gave birth to in 2015. This was the first time two babies have been born to the same mother within a calendar year in recent memory, according to Gleneagles Hospital gynaecologist who attended to both births. When Madam Lydiawati Ibrahim, 33, found out she was due to have a second baby in Singapore's Jubilee Year, she said it came as a surprise. "At first we were a bit worried, because we didn't plan for the second one. We were thinking of the cost and the expenses in the future. But we carried on with the support of my husband, my family and also (obstetrician-gynaecologist) Dr Lee Keen Whye," she said. "When Dr Lee said that I was expecting a boy, because my previous two were girls, it was a 'double happiness' for my family." Her son, Rifly, who was born at Gleneagles Hospital at 6.23pm on Monday, weighed 3.035kg at birth. Mohammad Rifly Asyraaf, Mdm Lidyawati's second SG50 baby. (Photo: Melissa Zhu) Mdm Lydiawati, who works at the hospital as an admissions officer, said that the birth was "a bit tiring" as it happened so soon after having her second daughter, A'la Aamily Delisha, in February this year. Apart from that, "everything was normal", she said. Her husband, Mr Mohamad Ali, 38, an operation team supervisor, said that he was "very happy but very shocked" as well to hear of his wife's second pregnancy this year. The couple also have an older daughter, four-year-old A'la Nayli Shazya. Dr Lee - who helped deliver all three of the family's children - said he could not recall another case of a woman giving birth twice in a year in the last 25 years, though such occurrences were common in the 1960s and 1970s. The consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at Gleneagles Hospital said he would recommend that mothers wait two to three years before having another baby, so they can bond with their young children. In a case such as Mdm Lydiawati's, it would be important for the mother to take special care to avoid "all the complications that may come with poor nutrition", and to watch out for illnesses such as diabetes and high blood pressure, he said. - CNA/xq Click here to view the whole thread at www.sammyboy.com. |
