Well I follow the news quite a bit and I suppose the
Top Con Award 2006 goes to David Rasif who's managed to make off with $13,000,000 and ditch the bitch all at once.

These next two (2) weren't performed in 2006 but are worth mentioning for the interesting amounts involved.

The Top Amount Ripped-off of All Time Award actually goes to
Chia Teck Leng for ripping off $117,000,000 from several banks under
the pretext of a loan to APB (a part Gahmen-owned shop, by the way).
Chia has recently been sued by several banks to recover the money.
The banks need to show they've done everything to recover the money
before they can write off the amount.

The next would be Teo Cheng Kiat (Sin Airlines).
Amount ripped: $35,000,000

It seems if you're ripping off anything less than $10,000,000 these days, you're a rank amateur.

Well, you gotta be fair to Thaksin because it takes plenty brains, effort, smarts and luck to build up a multi-billion dollar telco and then convince
a bunch of Stooges from Singapore that it's worth buying.

Not only that, Temasek didn't write a cheque to the Thai Govt, they paid
the entire amount (Google it to find out exactly how much) directly to
Thaksin's personal bank account.

Can you imagine how the post-purchase conversation played out?

Thaksin: Thank you very much.

Whore Jinx: Hey! The Thai government just said they might confiscate
the telco we just bought and "nationalize" it! You didn't say anything about that!!

Thaksin: Er... yeah... like HELLOooOOoo! I didn't know they were gonna
