Re: Vientiane,Laos
I was in Boten during the 4 day water outage;
I plugged three girls in the tin shacks and took some photo of the water outage. The photos are below.

Ironically, per your sign-off, generosity might flow like a river but in Boten water sure as hell does not. |

Re: Vientiane,Laos
Hi All,
Making my virgin trip to Vientiane early next year. Need some advise on a few questions. 1) Which streets to stay that are convenient to find local street food? 2) which hotel is good and not too expensive? 3) What currency are commonly used in Laos? 4) Is Singapore Dollars accepted in Vientiane money changers? 5) Which streets are the red light districts? Appreciate your valuable advise. Thanks Ahead. |

I usually stay in the 老挝建国大酒店 for convenience. Bring usd for all money changers.

This is also my virgin trip and I stay near the Mekong river region. I find that the vendors are very versatile and will move to where there is more people. in fact I find them everywhere.
Hotels recommendation please read the past posts.Laos used KIPs, some vendors also accept Thai bahts. Business in San jiang region might quote you in RMB. I didn't find any money changers which accept SGD. My solution is to draw from ATMs using Trust Bank card. The fx rate is good so I only suffer from the ATM charge which can vary from 20k to 100k KIPs. there is no red light DISTRICT in Laos. Everything happens hidden and with a decent front. Please go read the past posts. One last advice, don't draw too Much KIPs that you don't need as it depreciate quite fast.by the time your next trip, it would have lost a lot of it's value. Quote:
