Sorry guys, it’s been an even busier period with all that’s going on. Hopefully, everyone is safe.

This next few stories, to be fair and accurate, is not entirely a ‘did not think of’ case. It’s more of a ‘did not expect it to happen so quickly’ case, because I did wish it will happen Still, hope the story’s enjoyable. I’ve put in a lot of the build up in because I think it’s important to the story (and quite nice to recall), but if bros (or even sis) are looking for the more sensual bits, you can skip to a few posts forward.

So my job requires me to meet people, speak with people and communicate a fair bit. It also requires me to travel and move around quite a fair bit (although clearly, that can’t happen now because of all that is going on.) In all the places I visit, I will need to speak with people to find out about various things, issues, etc etc. So one way I’ve found it easy to get that done is to be registered on various platforms – social media, dating apps etc. I am upfront on my profiles though, that I am not there for the same purpose(s) as they might be, and largely due to my job. Interestingly, this makes people more willing to communicate, although I’ve had some encounters wondering if the people did read my profile before accepting. That’s a story for another day.

This story, today, is about B, a girl I met on a dating app. For those who are curious, you actually can change the location in your dating apps (the legitimate ones, not sure about the more “underground” ones which I do not know about). Thus, prior to a trip to Hong Kong two years back, I signed up on a few apps/sites, and started talking to different people there. B is one of those from a dating app. Some eventually expressed interest to meet as part of the project I was on, so I scheduled to meet up with them. Others, when the conversations started to taper off, I also stopped responding, so that I wouldn’t come across as pushy. B was one of those who responded, and we arranged to meet over coffee at Tsim Sha Tsui to conduct my interviews.

Prior to meeting up, I did see B’s photos in her profile, as well as subsequently through her social media profiles which she shared. A description about B – she has long hair (which she kept tied up most of the time), wears contacts, does her make up quite lightly but sufficiently, and has quite the megawatt smile. She’s not very tall, but is quite well-shaped due to her regular exercise. She works in marketing, which is not very different from my job, so she understood the area of my work, which I guess was the reason why she was obliging to help me by being interviewed. Our conversations over the chat was always quite “intellectual” – we could talk about our common areas of work, and across a broader range of topics, we were quite on the same wavelength too. Thus I believe that’s what made things quite attractive, because I think intellect is always sexy.  Either way, I was looking forward to meeting her (to get the interview done), and also a good cup of coffee which she said she would introduce me to when we met for the interview. To cut the long story short, the interview went well, the coffee was good, and we continued chatting for close to an hour before we left the place. And I thought that was that. Till that evening…

“Well, you can always make it a date if you want :P”

This came as a surprise – it was quite a come-on. I responded cautiously, though, as this was someone I just met after all.

“Haha, really?”

“:P what do you think?”

“Well if you say so…”

“So when are you going back to Singapore?”

“Two days from now! Still have meetings to attend over the next two days.”

“Will you be free tomorrow evening? I can buy you dinner like a good host would.”

I looked at my calendar, and realized that I already had another meeting. By the time I was done, it would be quite late. Plus, I probably would be quite tired too. So I decided to take a rain check.

“Sorry, but I have a meeting! I’ll probably only be done about 9 plus”.

“I’m okay with that, actually. Where’s your meeting? I can be nearby, and we can have a drink, or I can accompany you for dinner if you haven’t eaten by then.”

“Oh, I’ll be at Causeway Bay – at XXX co-working space.”

“That’s okay, it’s not too far for me. I live just one station away. Is your hotel nearby too?”

“Yes, it’s two streets away.”

“Great! Let’s meet then. There’s a nice café that serves food till late, we could go there!”

“Ah I’m sorry it’ll be so late. But great! See you tomorrow. Have a good rest!”

“Good night!”

So at this point of arranging this, I was already quite tired from the day and was on the verge of dozing off. I just sleepily inserted it into my calendar, then fell asleep with my phone next to me on the bed. I didn’t think much about it too, except for how I was a little concerned that I would not have time to do my work in the evening. That, of course became something that wasn’t that important.

The next evening, after my meeting, I headed down to the café which she had sent the address to me beforehand. When I got there, it was rather crowded – as with many other places in Hong Kong. It was clearly a place for people our age group, but interestingly also served quite traditional Hong Kong fare. Because of the crowd, we were only left with sharing a table with a couple, but that also meant she and I had to sit side by side. I apologized for being late, which she very understandingly waved off and said that it wasn’t necessary. We then quickly ordered food, a coffee and had our meal. A big problem was the crowd and the amount of chatter, which made our conversations quite tough. At one point, we both laughed at how difficult it was to hear each other. We signaled to each other to quickly finish our food, and head out. She agreed to that, and we both finished our food quickly.

When we got outside, I asked if she knew of anywhere which we could go to to continue the conversation. There wasn’t any, however, and we stood there for a while, thinking. At this point, I suddenly remembered that my hotel had a sitting lounge which was open till late. I didn’t want to suggest this at first lest it seemed like I was inviting her to my room, but just tried, hoping she wouldn’t take things the wrong way. Surprisingly, she didn’t.
