Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

whoever been a player in liverpool, be it good or lousy player, be it tall or short player, be it espanyol or englishman, they are part of LIVERPOOL team. regardless scoring countless goals or not even a single goal, regardless saving my shots at goal or letting many goals, so long as he had worn the liverpool jersey, he has my respect.. imho they all made up the liverpool team.
notice the quantities in replies and views of Liverpool thread are way above the others, e.g. MU thread, Chelsea thread, Arsenal thread, to name a few
i always felt shiok looking at the numbers of replies and views. ha ha ha..
LIVERPOOL rocks........!!!

Haha Bro,I might have given you the impression that I dislike Momo coz I kept talking about his shortcomings,in fact I don't. I agree 100% with you on your view on his loan out issue. Anyway I don't think he is up to the more advanced role now as he is limited on this if compared to other CMs,I really hope he can improve on his wayward passing ,then together with his awesome level of stamina, abilities to break the opponents' play & his passions to play for LFC,he will always be in Rafa's future plan. With Mascherano around,he has to improve if he doesn't wish to lose out.

Cheers !

Actually, while I share your views on the above 3 slogging without expecting making the headlines (especially Carra who almost always refuses to be interviewed) ... I kinda disagree that they are low-key.
What I mean is ... Carra's recent performances have been so out-of-this-world that there was even talks of him deserving a slot in England's central defence, while Rafa has also broke his usual ritual about not singing praises of any one individual ... as for Hyypia, he has been given the pats on the back so many many times ever since he tightened up the leaky back-line (first with Henchoz & then with Carra) ... while Riise cannot be under the radar for long with that thunderous left foot of his.
In contrast, you hardly even see any article citing Finnan's worth to the team when he's almost always amongst the first 4 names in Rafa's teamsheet each time.

Trust me, viewpoints are only worth something if they have been comprehensively thought through ... suggestions of buying the most expensive players in the market is what every kopitiam uncle can suggest too - but being able to address questions like "who is he supposed to replace?" & "how is he supposed to gel into Rafa's gameplan?" are the critical indicators of the amount of grey matter that has been put into the viewpoint, in the first place.

IMHO, a healthy forum (technically, what is known as a desired Community of Practice) is about:
1) contribute your piece if you think it is worth contributing ... as in it's not a waste of bandwidth, as in there will be someone who's gonna say "thank you for enlightening"
2) otherwise, just keep quiet & learn from listening what others have to say ... never hurt anybody to assume that there will always be others who know more than you do
3) feel free to clarify your own understanding thereafter or even question what you think is a contradiction to what you thought you knew ... that's the only way to ensure you have progressed in your learning journey

You sure or not ... although I still own a tee-shirt stating my gratitude to Mr Murphy for always scoring against Manure, I think he has passed it.
Try to refresh my memory ... is he still playing in the EPL & to what effect?? He also got dropped from the England team after leaving the Reds, right??
If you think I'm rythless to this once-good servant of the club, I just wanna say that he left becoz he wasn't willing to accept the rotation policy ... indirectly, he's seeing himself as bigger than the club itself. So, he's not such a good servant after all, right??

I have my reservation about Pepe too ... but honestly "nobody'd do any worse than him" is not good enough - I mean, any new keeper would have to be given time to build an understanding with Carra & Agger (Hyypia) ... this is the time where points are expected to be lost & if the end state is just another keeper who's as good as Reina, then why take the risk to shoulder this point-losing gap in the first place??
My point is keep Reina until we come across another commanding world-class keeper ... as it is now, people like Cech & van der Saar won't sign for us while any other keeper from outside EPL will take time to adjust to the rough play in the box.
Another thing ... what's wrong with not having a "more british team"?? I mean, if the player can do the job he will do the job, whether he holds a British passport or not. You dun agree??

Alonso is one of the best thing to happen to LFC ... but yes, I agree his form dipped a little this whole season. Think the arrival of Mascherano would probably keep him on his toes to improve his performances soon.
As for Stevie G playing on the right, I actually thought it was more than just making space for Alonso ... there simply wasn't anyone worthy to play as right winger before Pennant came along, right?? Even now, he's still quite the finished article, agree?? However, following Mascherano's capture, we've already been hinted that Rafa can play both Alonso & Stevie G in the middle with Mascherano guarding the back too ... this is really scaring the shits out of defences now, no??

No sane manager would do that lah ... first, there will be unrest in the dressing room - the lesser paid players will rather not run for this superstar, just to register that the unjust pay disparity.
Next, what if this superstar take 1 whole season to learn about the EPL?? Just think of Shevchenko & Ballack ...
Also, remember the many threats from EPL & European hachetmen to wanna whack the living daylights out of Cristiano Ronaldo?? On this count, what if one such hachetman get his timing right when executing a high tackle on our superstar??

You mean Mark Wright or David Burrows??
I remember that night too ... joined the LFC Supporters' Club (run by a certain Colin Chee back then) & watched that defeat in the company of fellow Reds supporters at Sgt Pepper's in Pan Pacific Hotel. So, nope I didn't cry ... we all just sang YNWA over & over again.

You really have a good sense of humour ... whose blood is not red when cut up??
My tattoo ... I got it done in the mid 90s during Souness's reign when so many LFC supporters I know switched sides (but at least not onto becoming Scums, else they would not be my friends anymore too) - just wanted to prove a point to all that unlike them, I'm no fair weather LFC groupie. Well, becoz of this tattoo, I was interviewed twice on TV - once by locally produced "World of Sports" (about 10 years ago) & once by BBC when they came out here to do a feature on EPL fans in Asian (the same month after LFC won the Chamions League in Istanbul).
As for the red birthmark, it belongs to my 1-week-old son ... real coincidence that he's got a red patch (rather big & permanent) on his left chest near the nipp too ... dunno if he'll be a Reds die-hard like his dad, but he's already got a wardrobe of LFC clothings.
Lastly, dun assume so liberally ... 'coz I never used the words "young punk". IMHO, it's worst if you have a 40-yr-old so-called fans but dunno who Emelyn Hughes, John Toshack, Ronnie Whelan, Alan Kennedy, Michael Thomas, Julie Walters are.

First, there's no need for apologies (definitely not in a free forum like this one) ... simply becoz I am brash by nature & some of the old birds on this thread also had a good rub with me initially, but we've all gained mutual respect in the end to "NEVER WALK ALONE"

Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

haha... danny murphy has a place in my heart for his 3 goals in the three 1-0 victories over manure... much like how fowler is still "god" in the kop's heart... and honestly, i think of him as much more of a player than garcia... again, this is only my personal opinion... not trying to force it onto anyone... he is at tottenham now... and he was still in the england team back in the charlton days...

as for pepe, glad we share the same sentiments about him... been following dear scott carson's display at charlton... some top notch displays... and if you'd seen his saves last night against man city/netizens(thats their surprising nickname), you'd be impressed too... plus, he is english, used to the way the games played... definitely reduce the time he'll need to settle down... lastly, he is already a pool player = free!...

yes i agree citizenship counts for nuts... let me shed some light on what i mean... if you take some time to observe, soccer style in different countries are played in a different way... EPL = fast & furious, no time to dally on the ball... in la liga, ball is often passed to a single playmaker for him to create openings and make things happen... they get more time and space on the ball... if a player is used to playing a single style since young, he'll have a hard time adjusting... if you compare alonso's performance for real soc. and pool, you'll be able to get what i mean... if you need another example look no further than mark gonzalez...

don't get me wrong, i love alonso... i think he is cute and loves the way he wears a pool jersey... he is a great passer of the ball... i'm just trying to say, he is MORE SUITED to la liga where he'll get more time to measure his passes...

we shouldn't fit square pegs around round holes... i think the midfield trio of mascherano, alonso and gerrard is impressive but unless we play 4-5-1 throughout the season, we'll never be able to play all 3 together unless gerrard goes out to the right... right? but if thats the case, we'll be shackling gerrard in some sense as he'll not be able to dash into the box or score goals like he did against olympiakos...

but you have to admit Cristiano Ronaldo is doing pretty fine for manure isn't he? we've already got so much strength in depth, why not try something new and get a real match-winner? we shouldn't count merely on gerrard to fill this role... when he is injured or not playing well, will do pool good if someone else can pull a cat out of their bag too... don't you agree?

Through the years, we've had many young & promising English keepers all of whom have made at least the U-21 squad ... first, being Hooper, then James & more recently, Kirkland & Carson.
However, like I explained in this thread before ... goalkeeping is more than just physical abilities - most of these young keepers (& some other older ones like Juuskalainen & Sorensen) display their true agile & alert self when playing for the smaller clubs, simply becoz most of the action is in their half of the field. Sieg after sieg, their heroics is not difficult to appreciate ...
On the contrary, when these same players get elevated to playing for the bigger clubs, that's when it becomes evident that they are are short of the mental strength that can be seen in all world-class keepers like Kahn, Cech, van der Saar, Casilla, etc. You see, it's not easy to keep your mind focussed on the game when the ball is in the other half of the field for almost 80 minutes ... in the end, when they get out of their trance, it's more likely than not that they're already boo-booed with some schoolboy blunder.
Between Kirkland & Carson, Rafa has already decided to let the former go ... & he's gotten a young Italian keeper for the future too.

What you suggest is not totally untrue, but I see the same argument as a double-edged sword too.
In Rafa, he's one of the world's best tacticians/coaches becoz he's good at implementing his style of football ... for the time being, he's still trying to fine-tune his style to overcome the "fast-&-furious" hustling & bustling in the EPL.
It's not like LFC will be EPL champs if they can come up with the fastest & most furious team, right??
In the modern game (where every good coach has every player on the other side analysed in every detail), what matters now is the "element of surprise" ... why do you think Alonso was playing better last season than this?? or why Gerrard was scoring goals like nobody's business from the right wing last season??
In that sense, Rafa's concepts (& endless pockets of tricks) work but he needs to have players who are intellient enough to change the plot at his very instructions. So, unless he can find Englishmen who can do what he wants (in implementing Rafa's style of football), then what's the point of having an Englishman there??

It's a cliche that every normal being will say ... but look at it this way, if there is 1 person who can fit square pegs into round holes, I'm certain he will be showered with wealth, besides being awarded with the Nobel Peace Prize ... agree??
Where do you think LFC have been losing points this season & last?? Anfield is back to being a fortress ... at worst, we're losing 1 or no matches there liao. So, if we arrest our inconsistent away form, then we'll more than likely be true EPL contenders, right??
You probably also know Rafa likes to play 4-5-1 at away EPL matches ... or simply 4-4-1-1 when Garcia is available for selection. Along these lines, wouldn't you think a midfield with Stevie G & Alonso, plus Mascherano guarding the back has every chance of marauding the opponents away from Anfield??

Yes, I hate to say this ... but Cristiano Ronaldo has been the sole reason why Manure is leading the pack this season.
Since you've never seen Dalglish in action, let me be the long-winded story-teller then ... he's known to the Kop as King & as a player, he's really the lynchpin in the LFC teams of the early to mid 80s - just like Stevie G is to the team right now ...
Dalglish can do so many magical things with the ball that opposing teams will be concentrating on him all match - typical plot from coaches who believed "if you contain him, you contain the team" ... but the difference between the LFC team then & now is: while Dalglish is being shackled, he's magical enough to still put in more than a few gems of goals (just like Stevie G) but more significantly, while he's shackled by two, there will be other players in the team being freed up to do the damage ... usually, it's Rush but on other occasions, the midfielders like Wark, Whelan, Nicol, Johnston, Lee & Souness will chip in with the goals too.
Unfortunately, the current crop of strikers are nowhere near as prolific while Riise & Alonso are the only ones who has the occasional nose for goals. As much as I love Fowler as God (in my heart, he ranks higher than a certain money-minded Mr Owen) ... we need to replace him with Villa or Eto'o. At the same time, Pennant & Gonzalez will have to learn to score too.

As for Kvarme, you can't fault him for his effort ... in fact, I thought he was a good buy until the Manure where he blundered & got tricked by the bounce of the ball, leading to the goal ... after that, he never recovered & left.

Well, I'll definitely try ... my aim is for him to play football competitively like his dad too - if he has the stuff to make the grade, I'll be spending my retirement watching him train at the LFC Academy too.
You'd be as knowledgeable too ... when you reached my age & has spent more than the last 30 years according LFC religion status. BTW, besides the tattoo, I married twice & on both occasions, YNWA was the wedding march used.

Peter Crouch and Craig Bellamy will lead the attacking line for Liverpool at Reading this afternoon.

The Liverpool team in full for today's clash is:

Reina
Arbeloa
Carragher
Hyypia
Finnan
Gonzalez
Sissoko
Mascherano
Gerrard
Crouch
Bellamy

Subs:
Dudek
Agger
Riise
Pennant
Kuyt

Alonso is not even on the bench, again the central midfielders will attract much attentions. Go Reds !

Always nice to get full points,a bit hangover from the CL game though, looks like Kuyt is destined to score the winner against the Royals.
