I was correct when I said he was trying to sow discord between participants of 2 different threads, but now he has come out to admit his stand all this while. Based on his 'advice' that we were all self-deceiving, he didn't have to ask 'Who is correct ?' in the first place. He had pre-knowledge of who was correct all along.

No effort is made to analyse the logic of the arguments put forth by TCM. And no effort is made to justify the label being there in the first place.

And if you speak about 醫德 it seems that TCM offers more free clinics than Western doctors, who charged high fees in order to service their condos and Benz so that they can appear on Singapore Tatler and Prestige magazines. TCM physicians have convinced me that they studied medicine to 'save the people' 普渡眾生, not as a vehicle to obtaining more wealth.

I admire Western medicine, but I respect TCM, even if they don't drive the latest SLK or wear Patek Phillipe.

Hi you shouldn't look at this the wrong way. I just made a very poor assumption on your age but it was not meant to offend anyone. Yes i do notice the difference between how TCM and western medicinal practioners treat one another and it doesn't help by the fact that society does put greater emphasis on western medicine. Probably most or all hospitals in SG use western medication. TCM practices are categorised under "alternate remedies", not a very flattering term at all.


I'm not here to really discuss about the moralistic issues between TCM and western doctors. That could be discussed in a seperate thread. Perhaps Peter if you don't mind could you maybe send a link or perhaps give a simplistic explaination or elaborate more on the Qi aspect of the human body. What is "Qi" called in english terms?

I used to study biology in school. The body has many systems like digestion, blood circulation etc but the one which seemed to be the most difficult to understand is the nervous system and i think that even doctors of today might not truly understand the nervous system.

Anyway the human body is very complex and difficult to understand. That's why getting a license to become a practicing Dr is a very long and tedious process. Unless you study it, i doubt a layman could truly understand all the workings.


Secondly TCM uses chinese terms to describe the various workings of the body. That's a problem cos many singaporeans have varying proficencies in reading and speaking chinese. I believe there is quite a significant number of singaporeans whom have difficulty reading advanced chinese words and terms. It's going to be a nightmare and a very tedious process using a dictionary to translate these terms for these singaporeans.

Lastly it's also the image. TCM seems to be associated with the older "cheena" type of ppl. For some people it's quite hard to take these type of cheena ppl seriously if you know what i mean. I'm not trying to be offensive here, i'm just explaining the mindset of these people. Therefore sometimes perhaps it's better to elaborate a bit more on certain terms used in TCM like "heatiness", "qi" for eg just to clarify any doubts or confusion.

wow yes i understand that due to the big differences between the chinese and english language there would be a certain degree of unintelligibility and that translation would border towards the impossible. This would of course lead to the rise of nay sayers whenever topics of such a nature are discussed here.
