we should not have been in this situation where we are not in control of our own destiny. to actually see and hear the so-called Pool fans cheer chelski on against their "own" team was really just undescribable.

to lose against chelski home and away was very painful indeed and these 2 losses actually translate to a 12-point swing on the league table. imho, i think it was these 2 games that may soon decide this season's BPL title's destination.

all these being said, even if we do not win the 19th title this year, we will definitely win it and surpass Pool's record within the few years. i just don't see Pool winning the BPL any time soon. so they can eat their hearts out when we lift the BPL crown again. SAF will make sure of that.

i beg to differ bro. united, or rather, SAF will not splash the cash if he thinks that a player is over-valued.

we have already acquired 3 young players, chris smalling, xavier hernandez and mame diouf for a combined fee of around 20m pounds. that's a defender and 2 strikers. we need a midfielder in the mould of scholes. darren gibson may blossom into that. but i think everton's jack rodwell is a more promising player and SAF is sniffing around him.

rumours are also rife that SAF has made karim benzema his number 1 transfer target in the summer. i guess if he makes a bid for benzema, that would really spell the end for berbatov and michael owen.

i would think that united need to look at the goalkeeping department where VDS's replacement should be identified. forster and kuszczak are still not there yet. maybe the purchase of a top keeper is the final piece of jigsaw puzzle that united needs to challenge and win the titles next season.

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours

It is clear that Berbetov cannot fit in, like Veron & Forlan in the past. He wasted 3 glorious chances in the last match against Sunderland.

Hopefully, Karim Benzama ( if he comes ) or another prolific striker will provide the goals to ease the burden of Wayne Rooney, whom United have become too dependent on to score goals.

Alex Ferguson deserves a Tiger! - He's a Good Guy
Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours

Rooney to be run close

Wayne Rooney is the runaway favourite to clinch the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year accolades at tonight's end-of-season awards ceremony at Old Trafford.

But Sir Alex Ferguson believes there are a number of player who deserve recognition and could run Rooney close for United's top individual awards. Asked who fans on ManUtd.com would vote for other than Rooney to make it into the top three, Sir Alex quickly offered his own suggestions.

"Patrice Evra - he’s bound to be up there, no doubt about that," the boss told ManUtd.com.

"I think Darren Fletcher’s matured into a top player for us too, and Antonio Valencia has had a great season. He’s done very, very well in his first season at the club."

There are three ways to follow the event - from the red carpet to the announcement of the awards themselves, which also include Goal of the Season, Denzil Haroun Reserves Player of the Year, and Academy Player of the Year.

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours

FERGUSON READY TO REBUILD AGAIN

Sir Alex Ferguson has dropped a strong hint that is preparing to overhaul the playing staff at Old Trafford in order to 'freshen' his squad.

In a set of remarks that also seemingly serve as a reiteration of his recent insistence that he has no plans to quit the club, Ferguson has indicated that at least two changes of personnel will occur over the summer.

Dimi Berbatov, Michael Carrick, Ben Foster and Michael Owen are the most likely casualties in any cull if Ferguson decides to rebuild for what will surely be a final time.

"You have to take a decision about where we can improve the team," Ferguson told MUTV. "When you are challenging for four trophies it can have a draining effect. You have to be aware of that and spot the moment when it is time to freshen up one or two players.

"It is not a desire to do it but you need to do it because the demands and pressures on players can, over time, be quite exacting."

While Ferguson revealed on Monday that he had to talk Paul Scholes out of retirement before persuading the veteran midfielder to sign a new one-year contract, it cannot be said that the United boss has failed to consider United's long-term future after the signings earlier this year of Chris Smalling, Javier Fernandez and Mame Diouf.

"People don't recognise that we've signed three players for £20million already," Ferguson declared. "Young Chris Smalling from Fulham has signed for us, Mame Diouf has done well, and Javier Hernandez from Mexico will join us after the World Cup.Those are three young players whose futures are guaranteed at this club.

"There are others who come into that bracket like Jonny Evans, Federico Macheda, Gabriel Obertan, Danny Welbeck and Darron Gibson.

"So we have a good nucleus and foundation of players who can carry the club for a long time."

So he will axe 2-3 senior players and bring in fresh blood - which are not youngsters anymore.

David Silva is linked again. At least he worked against Chelsea.

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours

Five Who Could Leave OT This Summer...

ANDERSON

His apologists will hark back to a dominant midfield performance against Steven Gerrard, but that seems so very long ago - before two seasons of regression that have lowered him to Lucas Leiva status in the eyes of neutral observers. He almost left last summer and then almost left again in January after a petulant sulk back to Brazil. Injury followed and that - along with the advancing age of Paul Scholes and question marks over Owen Hargreaves' career - could well keep the Brazilian at Old Trafford beyond the summer. But if someone offered £8-10m for essentially a bit-part player, would Ferguson see an opportunity for change? Or would he think Anderson has the potential to 'do a Nani'?

DIMITAR BERBATOV

The consensus is that if Sir Alex Ferguson had not decided before Sunday that he would swallow the deficit on Dimitar Berbatov this summer, then the look on his face after the first of three missed gobbers against Sunderland would appear to indicate that somewhere, a camel's back was breaking. Arguments about the Bulgarian will rage long after he has left the building, which now looks inevitable as Ferguson looks for a relatively pain-free way of raising £15-20m. Those who question the price are forgetting that Berbatov is a class act, and we fully expect him to be rather more popular in the slower, less frantic surroundings of Serie A, where he will be judged on his style rather than his sweat patches.

MICHAEL CARRICK

No, we don't think he will sell Carrick but there's a phalanx of United fans who would gladly carry him out of Old Trafford if someone was to stump up £10m for his services. Another crowd-splitter, he's either the footballing aristocrat whose touch means he doesn't need to get his shirt dirty, or he's a workshy fop who gets bullied by better midfielders. We suspect Ferguson is rather more convinced than us about Carrick's virtues (Pete Gill is forever threatening a 'Ten Footballers We Just Don't Get' list with Carrick at the summit), though his relative inactivity since a poor performance against Bayern Munich gives the doubters some hope that the Scot will sell to the highest bidder and buy a bona-fide tackler.

BEN FOSTER

This time last year the question was 'when' rather than 'if' Ben Foster would take over from Edwin van der Sar. Now it's a question of 'when' rather than 'if' he leaves Manchester United for first-team football. Tomasz Kuszczak has become the Dutchman's deputy and Foster has been reduced to reserve-team football and the knowledge that a loan spell would have booked him a seat on the plane to South Africa. Clearly frustrated, he is making noises about leaving the club less than a year after signing a new deal - and there are several Premier League clubs who would happily pay £4m and make him - and Fabio Capello - a happy man,

NEMANJA VIDIC

The departure that could be out of Fergie's hands as Vidic's other boss puts her carefully-pedicured foot down. According to those who watched the United end-of-season awards do on Tuesday night, Mrs Vidic had a cob on all night and barely stopped short of hoisting a placard saying 'I'd Rather Be In Spain'. The rumours of a Vidic exit to either Spain or Italy continue to circulate so the club may have to reluctantly take any £15-20m bid for a player who has sometimes looked vulnerable to the pace of the Premier League. But any sale would make United themselves vulnerable - to accusations that they are now a selling club.

we will need to sell some players else i do not think we will have the cash available.
DIMITAR BERBATOV is a failure,so selling will be a good way to get some cash back.

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours

Chelsea are champions

United have been deposed as football kings of England for the first time in four years, following a comprehensive final-day victory for the new champions Chelsea.

The Reds' hopes of Wigan Athletic causing a decisive upset at Stamford Bridge lasted just six minutes until Nicolas Anelka put the Blues 1-0 up. Frank Lampard made it 2-0 from the penalty spot just after the half-hour, following a red-card foul by Gary Caldwell, and thereafter the floodgates opened against the Latics.

Didier Drogba's hat-trick, including one penalty, won him the Golden Boot at Wayne Rooney's expense, while further goals from Anelka (his second), Kalou and Ashley Cole ensured an emphatic 8-0 home win for Carlo Ancelotti's rampant side.

i think the Champion League is what SAF wants the most and of cos the 19 titles. he will surely want the record for himself and MU instead of sharing with Liverpool.
Those old horses should still be useful as second liners as their legs and lungs are not any youngers anymore.
