Yes initially think if this promptpay QR code reliable then don’t need to bring so much cash over but I think end of the day nothing beats cold hard cash or cc

Better to carry some cash as not all merchants accept cashless..... and some will charge service fee for small amounts.

I suggest use Youtrip card. The rates are super good. Better than exchanging cash from money changer.

I saved all this hassle and got myself a Bkk Bank account after Covid in 2022. Local sg bank to Wise, Wise to Bkk Bank. Wise exchange rates are one of the best with low transaction fees. Scanning qr and not fumbling for cash is so convenient

Promptpay to personal one was tough. I tried to pay a FL using prompt pay, sometimes can sometimes cannot. Abit weird. Like she need to activate something or what

yes need to activate. my buddy got thai bank account so always give him money he do all the scanning and promptpay when we chiong. he mentioned the receiver must activate to be able to receive promptpay payment or QR code for others to scan.

As for the person paying no need, can transfer / scan the other party code/info.

Yes. Can use paylah to scan prompt pay qr. But the bank rate sucks. I rather use Revolut or Youtrip card to pay.

Use 3rd party agent. Google for one. I used my hotel address and esim to register for mine w/o issue. Just take note if you want to chg phone next time and try to relogin you will have to go to the bank again with your passbook to update to new thai tel num. Minumum 3 working days. I use a old samsung s20 as my thai chiong phone that has the bank app on it.

Any specific bank? Or any bank can? I tried once with SCB. They dont allow. they want work permit. So in the end never open. Back to Singapore my friend tell me try Bangkok Bank.

Bangkok Bank Singapore is separate from Bangkok Bank Thailand.

Many years ago when I was still working in SG.... I had a Bangkok Bank account in Singapore.

But when I travelled to Thailand..... I could not use my SG Bangkok Bank bank cards there nor open an account there to link with my SG account. I was told that they cannot open a new account for me as they have no connection with the Bangkok Bank in SG..... I still never understand until today why?

Eventually my boss told me to go to Pattaya and open an account with the Kasikorn Bank.
I was able to do it at the Central Festival branch.... and as a tourist too.
Only required a cash deposit 10K baht + passport + a local address to receive correspondences.

Only Bangkok Bank in thailand has less restrictions regarding foreigners opening a bank acct.
If you are from tiong land forget bout it. Full restrictions for tiongs.

This is correct. Apparently the banks operate seperately in different countries. I tried to do the same with UOB. I came to Thailand and tried to open UOB Thailand. They said not linked to Singapore for all these account approvals.

I assume is same parent company but diffierent entity altogether.

The Pattaya account is it still possible today? Apparently after covid they did many account policy changes and now very strict.

I went to ask around.

Update: Even Bangkok Bank, known for being less strict to foreigners, recommended to go to 1 specific branch. Even different branches may not approve while still branch will.

Which branch, I still digging.

Not sure this info I checked around correct or not...
