Well my frank take is that normally this is carried out at the expense of other nationalities e.g. Indonesians, Filipinos

Meaning to say the number of foreign maids may not go up drastically as they will cut the intake from these traditional sources

Actually, this is a result of the new Filipino government imposing stricter regulations on Filipinos going overseas to work.

It's also on Straits Times that the improvement in "protection and welfare" for maids that the Philippine government is demanding is US$400 pay and four days off a month for new maids. Higher than the S$400 average pay for Filipino maids now. Consequently, Singapore is just doing what Singapore does best...look for other alternatives.

They have problems coming here, have problems with HK now. Malaysia pay lagi low. Their garmen can only create problems! Sooner or later they slap their own faces.

I'm not sure what the new Philippines government is really trying to achieve here. Maybe they have good intentions for their people. However, like u, i have major doubts that the Filipinos are going to benefit and appreciate what their government is doing. In the meantime, let's welcome the Bangladeshi maids and hope our Bangladeshi workers slogging here get a morale boost out of it.
