Actually I dun really quite agree with this statement, most of those I met from the poorer families would rather coerce their children to drop out of school and work to support the family if they are living from hand-to-mouth, and definitely not turn to selling off their house or lands just to fund the children's studies Cheerios........SS08 ^_^

Vietnam’s super-rich population is growing faster than anywhere else
March 2, 2017 The country now has 200 people with investable assets of at least $30 million. Vietnam’s ultra-rich population is growing faster than any economy in the world, and is on track to continue leading the growth in the next decade, based on a new international research. The Wealth Report by the U.K.’s independent real estate consultancy Knight Frank found there are 200 ultra high net worth individuals (UHNWI) in Vietnam, who are defined as people with investable assets of at least $30 million, excluding personal assets and property such as a primary residence, collectibles and consumer durables. UHNWIs are the richest people in the world who control a disproportionate amount of global wealth. In Vietnam, this super rich group has grown by 320 percent between 2000 and 2006, the fastest in the world compared to India’s 290 percent and China’s 281 percent, the report said. The number is expected to continue rising to 540, or by 170 percent, in 2026, the highest growth rate in the world. Millionaires in Vietnam are expected to jump to 38,600 from 14,300 over the same period. The world’s top growth rates of ultra-wealthy people over the past decade, and forecasts for the next. Graphics by Knight Frank Andrew Amoils, Head of Research at the global wealth intelligence and market research firm New World Wealth, highlighted Vietnam as the market whose “stellar” growth rate is set to reinforce “dramatic growth” of the super-rich population in Asia. “We expect Vietnam’s millionaire numbers to be boosted by strong growth in the local healthcare, manufacturing and financial services sectors,” Amoils was quoted in the report as saying. It also cited World Bank remarks as describing Vietnamese economy with “remarkable” transformation over the last 25 years, with economic and political reforms translating into higher incomes. The bank has projected Vietnam’s average GDP growth of around 6 percent annually until 2020. Knight Frank report reflects considerable variation between UHNWIs growth rates in different regions and countries, due to local factors that underpin wealth creation and the mobility of ultra-wealthy people. The number of ultra-wealthy people is predicted to climb by an average of 12 percent over the next decade in Europe, compared with a forecast 91 percent growth in Asia. The number of ultra-wealthy people worldwide, which has grown 42 percent over the past decade, is expected to grow another 43 percent to 275,740 in 2020.

Hanoi man shocked by paper dispensing ATM
TUOI TRE NEWS UPDATED : 03/02/2017 10:51 GMT + 7 A man attempting to withdraw cash from a PvcomBank ATM in Hanoi was stunned on Wednesday when the machine spat out a stack of papers instead of cash. Onlookers laughed in amusement upon noticing the blue papers with “500,000 VND” printed on one side, with many uploading photos to social media and turning the story viral. The ATM was put in front of a Big C outlet on Tran Duy Hung Street, Cau Giay District. In a statement sent to media the same day, PvcomBank confirmed the ‘ATM dispensing paper’ incident, but explained that the unlucky man had withdrawn money from a machine still undergoing a trial run. The customer happened to withdraw money when the technical contractor of the machine had yet to finish the testing phase and there were no technicians on-site to correct the error, according to the lender. “Because the ATM had yet to be refilled with cash, it dispensed ‘sample money’,” PVcomBank said. The lender added it had contacted the customer and reimbursed him the amount deducted from his balance following the troubled withdrawal. The bank also asserted that its system had been running smoothly as of late Wednesday.

Make Vietnam traffic great again: ‘8 little things’ to stop
TUOI TRE NEWS UPDATED : 03/01/2017 15:50 GMT + 7 It would be safer than to travel on the road in Vietnam if people were able to give up eight small, yet irksome behaviors, a Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reader has argued. In a piece sent as part of the ongoing open forum on how to build up a ‘traffic culture’ in Vietnamese people, Khanh Hung speaks from his own experience on how dangerous and annoying traffic in the country is, and offers some suggestions to resolve the chronic issue. Read his argument below and please comment below or write to [email protected] to join in the forum. Eight little things that need to stop Several inappropriate behaviors of Vietnamese people on the street, such as driving in the wrong direction or on the pavement, running red lights and crossing lanes are obvious traffic violations. However, there are other things that we witness every day, yet are not covered in the traffic rules and therefore subject to no penalty or fine. Whenever this type of behavior is not sanctioned by the law, we can only hope that everyone will change behavior of their own accord. Here is a list of eight behaviors anyone of us will witness at least once a day on the street in Vietnam: 1- Smoking while driving (motorbikes and cars) 2- Spitting while driving (ignorant of those behind them who suffer) 3- Abruptly changing direction without signaling 4- Repeatedly honking when there is still three seconds left on the red light 5- Speeding over flooded areas, splashing dirty water onto other drivers 6- Using mobile phones while driving 7- Driving two across on narrow streets 8- Giving the ‘I’m always right’ attitude in the case of an accident continue reading here http://tuoitrenews.vn/city-diary/398...things-to-stop

Vietjet completes $1.2bn listing on Ho Chi Minh City bourse
TUOI TRE NEWS UPDATED : 02/28/2017 17:45 GMT + 7 Vietjet CEO Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao (L, 4th) receives the listing decision from the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange on February 28, 2017. Low-cost Vietnamese carrier Vietjet has completed its public listing and officially become a fully-listed entity on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HOSE), the bourse announced on Tuesday. The first airline in Vietnam to be listed on HOSE, Vietjet has a charter capital of VND3 trillion, or VND90,000 per share, meaning the carrier’s capitalization would stand at VND27 trillion, or equivalent to US$1.2 billion. This accounts for 1.5 percent of HOSE's capitalization as of February 15, 2017, Vietjet said in a statement on Tuesday. The no-frills airline will now join the ranks of ‘VN30,’ Vietnam’s biggest publicly-traded companies in terms of market capitalization. As a direct result of being hosted on HOSE, Vietjet will contribute positively to raise market capitalization, offering immediate opportunities for local and foreign investors, the carrier said. Vietjet is the first Vietnamese firm to have completed an IPO that meets international standards and practices (Reg S). BNP Paribas, Deutsche Bank, JP Morgan are the IPO's foreign joint global consultants. Twenty-four international investors subscribed to Vietjet's offering, including Singapore sovereign fund GIC, Wellington, Morgan Stanley, Dragon Capital, VinaCapital, and many more, according to the carrier. Huong Duong Sunny Co. Ltd. is the biggest shareholder, owning a 23.24 percent stake in the airline, whereas CEO Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao and GIC possesses a 9.42 percent and 5.48 percent stake, respectively. Vietjet's share rose to VND108,000 on the maiden trading session According to 2016 statistics, Vietnam’s aviation transportation market grew by 29 percent between 2012 and 2016, and the rate of customers using airplanes as their means of transportation increased from 0.5 percent in 2012 to 0.8 percent in 2016. Vietjet, the first privately-owned commercial airline in Vietnam, had started to generate profits in its second year of operations. Its revenue in 2016 was VND27,532 billion ($1.21 billion) with a net profit of VND2,394 billion ($105 million), with earnings per share topping VND8,762. “Vietjet shall maintain a continuous and high growth rate and we believe that there will be a brighter future in the air for our passengers, the airline and its investors,” CEO Thao said. During Tuesday’s session, Vietjet share (VJC) rose 20 percent to VND108,000.
