I used to view investing big money on a young player as a small risk. They have yet to fulfil their potential and we can always sell them in future to recoup some of the transfer fee if we find them unsuitable. actually whether the striker is BIG name or small name i think most important is can he firstly get used to the team, and also the style in EPL.

certainly hope if Torres is to be signed, he can make more impact the Morientes.

between, have not known pool was a selling club?????

Fernando Torres could be the player to end Liverpool's summer of inactivity after Atletico Madrid finally decided to sell.

The Spanish striker will cost around £25m because of a clause in his contract but The Liverpool Echo believes that price will not put off Rafa Benitez.

Torres has previously been a target for Manchester United and Chelsea, but he is thought to favour a move to Liverpool - during a recent match his captain's armband allegedly slipped to reveal the words 'You'll never walk alone' printed on the reverse.

Atletico have finally agreed to sell Torres after failing to reach the UEFA Cup following a disappointing season in which their star striker still managed to score 14 goals.

One internet report suggests that Liverpool have despatched officials to Madrid in order to open talks with Atletico Madrid, who might be tempted by an offer of former player Luis Garcia in part exchange.

Rafael Benitez has told supporters not to panic about the club's lack of transfer activity so far this summer.
With the the first batch of players due back at Melwood for the start of pre-season training on Thursday press speculation is rife as to what 'big names' are on the Liverpool manager's shortlist.

But although he's keen to strengthen the squad as soon as possible, Benitez remains calm and insists progress is being made behind the scenes to bring new faces in.

"We have a number of targets, and I am receiving interesting phone calls all the time," he said.

"We are monitoring situations all the time and there is no urgency yet. If we bring in players from Spain, they only finished playing a week ago so they will need a longer break, but I would like somebody in before we start pre-season training."

Manchester United have wrecked Liverpool's chances to land Atletico Madrid captain Fernando Torres.

Atletico insist there is no way they will drop 23-year-old Torres' £27million price tag after Manchester United agreed a £21m deal for Nani from Sporting Lisbon.

Kop boss Rafa Benitez has offered £16m plus £7m-rated Luis Garcia for the Spanish international.

But Torres' spokesman insisted: "That offer is not enough - taking into account Fernando Torres guarantees 15 goals a year to his club and - above all - when Nani, an unknown, costs £21m."

Reds set for record Torres deal

Liverpool are set to see off interest from Manchester United to seal the signing of Fernando Torres for a club-record £25m this week.
Reds boss Rafa Benitez has made the Atletico Madrid striker his number one transfer target this summer and looks set to get his man despite late interest in the 23-year-old from United.

It is thought the Spanish international would prefer a move to Anfield, where he would team up with fellow countrymen Benitez, Xabi Alonso and Pepe Reina, to spearhead the Reds' strike force next season.
There are reports Benitez will offer Atletico Luis Garcia or Djibril Cisse as part of the deal in order to reduce the amount Liverpool will have to fork out, although it is thought the Reds are willing to pay as much as £25m on Torres - a figure that easily eclipses the £14m spent on Cisse in the summer of 2004.

United's interest Torres is long-standing and reports have suggested Sir Alex Ferguson now wants the forward after his bid to land Italian international Fabio Quagliarella from Sampdoria stumbled over the weekend.

Is Torres really that good? His goal stats worth $25 million? I'm not being cynical. I just seldom see torres in action.

Peter Crouch is a tall guy who can't head the ball... Better with his feet than head, plus he's slow. Why wun it be a good deal to sell Crouch and buy another tall striker with better aerial prowess and pace? How often do you see Crouch with the ball and feel like he's going to waste the chance or nothing's going to happen?

i really dont think torres is ideal for epl. raul yes, david villa yes, but not torres.

i agree wif you... 4 me crouch is still not up to liverpool fc standard. so tall but can't head the ball into empty net.
