Errmm never assume without knowing the facts, my company procures all laptops for staff with 3 years on-site warranties so I know very well what it means

However what you have said have too many loopholes,

- reformatting is basically no use as forensic software can easily recover those files within.

- anyway you may not be able to reformat the harddisk if it is indeed faulty as it means most sectors may be corrupted, even if in the case you are able to reformat it, again you cannot do so until the technician have checked the faulty harddrive or else how can the technicians determine if this is a valid warranty claim & not because of other factors?

- degaussing a harddrive means you need to have a very strong magnetic field or super strong magnets in order to do so (which I do not think most common people will have or keep this in their homes) but again you need to let the techicians access the faulty harddrive before you can even do anything to it, and this is provided the technician allows you to do so after he have taken out the faulty harddrive.

- the technicans have a SOP that requires them to return back the faulty components that they have replaced back to the factory, firstly to prove that that it is indeed a valid warranty replacement (& not a fraudulent claim) as all the harddrives comes with its own serial number, and secondly they need to dispose of it in accordance to local authorities requirements (as what you have rightly pointed out), so you do not have possession of the faulty harddrive even after they have taken it out.

So like what I have said, it is never safe to let a third-party have access to your old faulty harddrive as the safest is still to be able to replace it yourself and destroy the whole harddrive physically with a hammer

Formula One bosses considering Vietnam Grand Prix: report

A new venue in Asia could be on track as the superstar spectacle revs up for regional market.

Formula 1 officials are looking at the possibility of adding Vietnam to its schedule as a replacement for Malaysia, which will end a 19-year relationship with the sport next year, The Sun reported.

The report said that the American Liberty Media Corporation, which owns the racing company, and F1 Chief Executive Chase Carey are both open to the new market.

F1, officially known as the FIA Formula One World Championship, currently holds races in China, Malaysia and Singapore each season.

The 2017 season has 20 races that started in Australia in March and end in Abu Dhabi in November.

Several sponsors are keen to increase their market share in Asia-Pacific, and with Malaysia leaving the track after 19 years, there’s space for a replacement.

Vietnam opened its first professional racetrack for cars and motorcycles in Long An Province, around 30 kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City, last year, but the circuit currently does not meet all the requirements set out for the sport.

Former F1 chief Bernie Ecclestone told The Sun that he was offered the opportunity to meet Vietnam’s president last year to discuss holding a race in Vietnam, but he turned it down.

He said the country had no “racing history”, which is true if he was referring to official car and motorbike races.

Nevertheless, the country has a big interest in racing and many F1 fans travel to Malaysia to watch the spectacle live.

A new government decree in February legalized betting on horse and greyhound races, and investment has been pouring into new tracks.

Honda motorcycle sales boost quarterly net profit

Motorcycle sales volume grew in India and Vietnam.

Japanese vehicle maker Honda on Tuesday said net profit for the second quarter rose by double digits boosted by strong motorcycle sales, revising up its full-year forecast.

The Tokyo-based company said "solid sales of two-wheel vehicles in Asia and cost reduction efforts" contributed to increased profits.

Motorcycle sales volume grew in India and Vietnam, Honda said, while four-wheel vehicle sales volume increased in Japan and China but declined in North America.

Japan's number-three automaker booked net profit of 207.3 billion yen ($1.88 billion) in the April-June period, up 18.7 percent from the previous year.

Sales grew 7.0 percent to 3.71 trillion yen, while operating profit rose 0.9 percent to 269.2 billion yen.

Honda boosted its net profit forecast to 545 billion yen from an earlier figure of 530 billion yen for the fiscal year ending March 2018.

It also lifted its fiscal year operating profit and revenue outlooks.

"Honda's profit pales compared to figures last year when it booked a one-time gain in a pension accounting change," Satoru Takada, an analyst at TIW, a Tokyo-based research and consulting institute, said ahead of the earnings release.

"But it displayed a good performance in China and Indonesia while showing steady sales in North America," he said.

While North American vehicle sales declined in the quarter year on year to 481,000 from 510,000, revenue rose slightly to 2.13 trillion yen from 2.06 trillion yen.

Takada added that the foreign exchange situation is "a key factor" for automakers.

"Current levels are relatively positive for the Japanese auto industry," he said.

Although the yen has strengthened slightly in past days, it remains weak against the dollar over recent years.

A stronger Japanese yen can hurt carmakers by eroding the value of overseas profits when repatriated.

On Thursday, Nissan reported a drop in quarterly net profit, hit by higher costs and weak sales in key markets, although it left its annual forecasts unchanged.

Toyota will release earnings on Friday.

Since we are not like those ang mo into lazing on beach chairs the whole day and sipping cocktails by the beach, and tourists numbers have dropped, this should be the right time to go there now.....
