Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours

Manchester United have bought the left-back Alexander Buttner from Vitesse Arnhem, according to the Dutch club. The fee is undisclosed but is not thought to be more than £3.9m for a player who has never been capped by Holland.

Buttner, 23, has been bought by Sir Alex Ferguson as cover for Patrice Evra, with Fabio Da Silva, his former understudy, on loan at Queens Park Rangers.

Buttner had also interested QPR and Southampton before his transfer to Old Trafford.

Although he is yet to play for Holland he was part of a pre-Euro 2012 squad that trained while some of the senior players took a break.

The move to United has caused some surprise in Holland as he is still considered a player of raw potential.

Buttner said: "I'm travelling to Manchester this evening [Sunday] and I'm very delighted that such a big club bought me."

should be able to bounce back and start winning.
i think Alex still prefer a lone targetman or single forward.

agree with bro dc7176. we do not need kaka since we already have kagawa and cleverley and even scholes as our "playmaker".

we do need a midfield general/hardman to boss the centre of the park much like keane , robson or ince. watched the everton game and we really got bullied by the physical approach play from them. carrick is too gentle lah.

give rooney and rvp a bit of time to gel. they were not the top 2 scorers in the bpl last season by luck.

i thought playing valencia at RB was a waste as our new R & R strike combo could really do with his superb wingplay and crosses.

just hope rafael recovers to take over the RB duties fast!

nani looked distracted and really off-form. might be a good thing to sell him off now.

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours

Everton is becoming to be United's bogey team! Last season went to OT and forced a 4-4 draw which I strongly feel caused United the title.

And now, beat United right at the start of the new season.

unfortunately, we lost the 1st game...
We were almost no match for Everton..
that Fellani...kill us..
Nani was damn lousy..
no decent shots at all..
only one cleverley chance throughout the match which was nicely setup by Kagawa..
Kagawa and De Gea were the best for this match..
Come on ..United...
Huat Ah...hahaha..

Dont worry bro, 1st game only. You cant win all 38 games. Have to loose somewhere along the way so either ManU loose now or later.

united are traditional slow starters. let's not be too worried over a lost game.

more to worry is the injuries to our defenders! fellani (and everton) took full advantage of carrick playing at CB and practically bullied our defence into conceding that goal.

de gea is really cementing his place in the side with his many saves. he is another legend in the making.

let's hope evans complete his recovery and take his place vs fulham this weekend.

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours

Ferguson rules out more buys

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has ruled out making any more signings before the close of the transfer window.

Alexander Buttner's move to United from Vitesse Arnhem was confirmed earlier this week, the Dutch full-back becoming the fourth new arrival of the summer at Old Trafford following the signings of midfielders Nick Powell and Shinji Kagawa and striker Robin van Persie.

United also announced this week that teenage striker Angelo Henriquez is to join them from Universidad de Chile having been granted a work permit.

Buttner was officially unveiled at a press conference on Friday morning, where Ferguson was also previewing the Red Devils' Premier League home clash with Fulham, and the Scot revealed United would not be splashing any more cash before next week's transfer deadline.

"We definitely won't be buying anyone else, that is for sure," Ferguson said.

The likes of striker Dimitar Berbatov and winger Nani have been linked with moves away from Old Trafford and asked if there would be any likely departures, Ferguson said: "There is no movement I can tell you about, to be honest with you.

"There is only a few days left now until the deadline and that will pass quite quickly I would imagine."

United got their 2012-13 Premier League campaign off to a losing start with a 1-0 defeat at Everton on Monday night, a game in which Ferguson - unable to call upon Phil Jones (back), Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling (both foot) and Rio Ferdinand (leg) - was forced to field a make-shift defence.

The manager confirmed that none of that quartet would be fit for the Fulham match, joking: "I've recalled Steve Bruce and Gary Pallister!

"No, it is the same as Monday night unfortunately. Phil Jones started training yesterday, but it is too early for him."

Ferguson said Buttner would be involved on Saturday, although most likely starting on the bench.

The 23-year-old has been brought in to provide back-up to left-back Patrice Evra, who Ferguson admitted could be a option in central defence.

"Patrice Evra could actually play at centre-back, he has done in the past. But it (Buttner's arrival) gives us a stronger squad, that is the most important thing," he added.

Van Persie made his United debut as a substitute in the Everton game and Ferguson hinted the Holland international - recruited from Arsenal for a reported £24million - could be promoted to the first XI against Fulham.

"He has had a few days' training since Monday," Ferguson said.

"In an ideal world, he would be better for two or three games under his belt, and he hasn't got that. But it is a home game and there is every chance he could start."
