Firstly , its $1 for 3 packets .

Ok .....it is definitely a transaction when you buy Tissue paper .When you need to wipe the curry drool off your mouth , do you wait for the tissue guy to swing by (if he does) or do you go and buy a packet from the nearest drink stall ?

My point is ., There will be the fit and able ones walking in lightning speed at newton hawker centre and I will buy out of convenience . Never once thought that I was helping them .

And there are times when I come across the blind or disabled one whereby I will give them $10 and I take only 1 packet of tissue (which I don't need to ) so as not to make them feel like a beggar going around tables . I felt they are worth helping .

If you wanna compare , what abt the guy playing music at the underpass to ION / Tangs ? (try asking him for BJ ?)

You help by giving him money and there's only music to repay you in kind .

you really cant compare tissues to blow jobs although they co exist .

If seeing that poor elderly lady moving from table to table gives you some form of emotional impact making you uncomfortable, and that distress makes you to buy that $1 twin pack of tissues - It's Helping

If you're paying with a $2 note and tell her it's ok, she can keep the change - That's Extra Helping

If that packet of tissue is just to serve a need to wipe the table or mouth - It's a transaction

It's all about the motivation in buying that packet of tissue.

Hmm my view is a mix of both DH's and Babooshka's.

I agree with Babooshka that the act of helping lies in the motivation, but my general idea is the same as DH's. If you're doing the minimum, and what is agreed upon, that is simply a transaction. But to help is to go the extra mile, to further provide what has not already been agreed upon. Which can be simple things like asking the tissue auntie to keep the change, or paying more for lesser packs of tissue paper, or even treating her to lunch and making small talk.

Many things lurk within the grey, but it is muddled of anyone to confuse transaction with helping. Transaction is transaction, it's basic. Helping is helping, it goes above the minimal. If you wanna help, put in the extra effort and go the extra mile. Attempting to confuse other readers with talks of grand logic and twisted words just reflects badly on yourself.

If you purchase one tissue packet with $50, that is indeed an example of helping like I previously mentioned under "paying more for lesser packs of tissue paper".

But with such an exaggerated example, it begs the question of have you really done it? How many tissue aunties do you know accept 50 bucks for the sale of one tissue packet? Perhaps you have your charms, but even tissue aunties understand value and indebtedness. I suggested before buying lunch for the tissue auntie and having a conversation with her, maybe you could benefit from it as well.

To him, help should only be extended to the weaker and/or the poorer. Even if it's just a transaction, as long as he provides something to the weaker and/or poorer, he is naturally helping them because they become less weak/ less poor than before.

You can't reason with him when he holds on to a definition like that.
