anyone went to Sapa before? i heard is very cold during dec/jan. Is it worth the visit?

Yes, during the winter months, it is very cold and rains often. The place is covered with mist most of the time. The paths to the villages are very muddy.

Depends on what u want to do there. If just want to hang around town, drink coffee, etc then it's okay. There is now a bus service there using the new highway so no need to take the overnight train.

You might wanna explore Lao Cai instead.. maybe hop over to China side of Hekou... if u wanna cheong.

I've read up and been told that Hanoi is an awesome place to chiong. So imagine my frustration that after 2 days here, in old quarters, I've yet to be able to secure any action.

I've been to three massages that I thought would make me happy, but alas I was mistaken. So last night in desperation, I went to recee on the streets. Got touted by a guy who brought me to the secret place. Of all the places I've been to, this is the most tactical one. No lights no sign and you only see the okts after you enter the shop. He pulled back the curtains to reveal his merchandise and I was led to th fifth floor for my escapade. Immediately he offloaded 800k off me- which was the price I was told upfront. So the I stripped down and so did the girl and everything was getting on when she asked for tip. Like wtf. No choice, ended up giving her 400, total damage 1.2mil for bbbj. Bo bian. Tio chop.

Anyway my advice to bros here - grab we chat, look for girls nearby. Average price is 1.5-2, before negotiation. Hotel rooms in old quarters about 500k. So I reckon with 2mil you should be able to get a decent fuk. Massage parlours damn not worth. No privacy no hygiene.

my first two visits to hanoi two years back was end of Sept and mid Oct... It was raining literally everyday. wanted to go to the pottery village but cancelled it.

on my 3rd visit it was in mid January... it was really cold but it was nice and sunny everyday. I was able to walk along Le Duan Road and shop for shoe.

And not forgetting the 5000 dong in old quarter
