Re: Angeles City (Balibago) Tips

LLSC: Pagpag shows the extreme of poverty ..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pagpag

< see from 45:00 onwards ..

Well, the reality of the country is the super rich get super rich, (even the pag pag business is controlled by businessmen.. ) and the poor get super poor resigned to their fate ..

And again, while I believe that it is better to teach a person to fish than give him fish, well, with filipinos, those educated will always go one up and get better, but the majority of the illiterate and church-influenced types will still say "we are thankful to God and believe generous people will help us live .. and we do our duty - i..e make more children and make the church happy .. "

Sad life. .. but, well, I am not gonna fix it ..

I don't mind doing an occasional donation, but donation in cash ? no .. I always saw that even there, there are politicians and businessmen who suck out the donation ..

Well, a story: years ago, we put together a deal to send some rubber boats for rescue, and the only thing we wanted from the Filipino counterparts was they find local sponsor to equip the engine, and handle clearence in customs.

Our estimate came to 20,000 $ for 6 boats.

Guess what the natives did ? They got a few local businessmen involved, who happily flew to Singapore, and met us, and asked that we should be a bit more generous and fund the clearence and all, and also sponsor the visit of the next group of people who will fly over to 'accept' the gift, and also another 10,000 $ for a ceremony to do the official handover .. etc. etc.. as the senators are very impressed and would like to use the occasion to help 'fiesta' to make it more memorable ..

After a while, I slowly unplugged myself from this project - my rationale ? Those idiots who flew here could have easily handled the Philippines part of the project, and also if need to have a ceremony the rich senators and the businessmen -they could have easily pulled the money out of their own pocket out the

who, in my conversation, I found out that they spend every summer in US, and take annual vacations to Europe - so rich enough to have fun but quick enough ask us to dig in deeper .. and even to Singapore, they were flying Business class, putting up in Hilton and Marriot .. but, wait, no money to give to fellow countrymen, especially when there are sucker foreigners to pay ..

It is screwed up.

I now limit myself to helping out only in cases where I know what happens with the donation, and more often, where locals do help out share the cost / logistics .. like the clothes I sent to Tugegarao, the locals there did the shipping .. if they had even hinted that I need to pay for that as well, I would have dropped it.

I am doing some collection for a school library in Abatan, Buguias, Benquet, a place where even LBC refuses to deliver ... where I know the people appreciate my help and will not go "oh, can add on this and that and our local councillers would like a share of the pie .. "

Charity in Philippines - you got to do where it works and only when you know that people do really benefit ..

There are cases abound of charity projects, where the donor / sponsor became an ATM machine and was edged out and the local mafia took over the projects ..

I love it in Philippines, never is there a boring day ..

Re: Angeles City (Balibago) Tips

Read a news in China a girl who knew a guy through the hottest matchmakin TV show 非诚勿扰 is being sued in court.

The guy courted her after they were matched in the show n went on to buy her a BMW 318 assuming marriage is on the cards.

But the girl broke up w him later.
He sued her in court to return the car as the gift is intended for marriage.
The court rules in his favour n order the girl to return 90% of car costs abt S$60k to him.
The girl says it's just a gift based on friendship but the man has photos that shows she had met his parents.

When I go on date w China DIA girls, when presented w meal bills of say 102yuan, I took out a 100 bill, she will pretend to come out w the 2 yuan tellin she have. After 20sec I really could not find any then she will take out the 2 yuan. Much smarter than the Pinay, ain't it?
She also pay the bill but 2% only.

When I asked what is her condition for marriage?
She said : A house
I said : I have a house
She said : That is your house
Immediately I deleted her contact.

So when bros here complain abt how they hv to counter the pinays for lightening their pockets of pesos when they are poor n hv to support their family in province, the girls in China do that even they are not poor n for bigger amounts.
And they do it intelligently w bigger appetite.

So bros take it easy abit ok? Just my personal opinion.

Yes there are always rare exceptions.
I bought her a dress n slingbag of her choice n some small gifts on my return trip. I hv a soft spot for these kind of girls.

[QUOTE=datou;6701351]I hv never give a single peso to beggars in Angeles.
I gave some chicken to the child beggar cause i feel that we may not finish so much food, so it will also be a waste.

There are always ever-ready beggar kids who pounce on $ changers. U feel obligated; so hv smaller denominations ready.

yingyang: Welcome and thanks for the link...

I quote.. "they have poor to nonexistent analytical skills, and their ability to discuss or deal with the most elementary facts of history and politics is, in my experience, simply appalling. It is not for nothing that one of the most common claims that one hears from foreigners who have spent a good deal of time around Filipinos is that they’re “as dumb as paint” (or, a variant, “as dumb as wood”). It is a claim heard on occasion in Thailand, but not nearly with the same frequency that one hears it in the Philippines. Put differently, and from one perspective, mongers often remark that you sure can’t do much better than to have sex with a Filipina, but by noon of the next day, if not before, you’re eager to get rid of her, because there’s absolutely nothing to talk about with her beyond how many times she sent empty hello text messages to this or that friend. "

Now you will understand the frustration of men who have tried to understand the mind of the filipina... and some just say.." I GIVE UP".

I beg to differ my friend .. it just shows the kind of company you keep (I mean the company the ang moh who complain keeps .. )

With bar girls, you want to screw and get out .. not to discuss the EU Fiscal policy or the North Korean Nuclear threat ..

Heck, the common measure of intelligence I use is .. I quietly ask what their take on RH Bill is .. the educated and exposed and properly brought up will have a frank chat .. the others, will go .. "OH, how dare you cross the path with the church .. " and that means, time to drag your soul to the fox hole and sleep off the hangover (and that goes for some educated too who have no common sense or think rationally .. )

I met enough and more people with whom you can argue, discuss, fight, without worrying about getting a .22 into your brain .. and more who will take a simple comment as an insult on the great Nation of Philippines !!! And that is the kind which I am vary of and avoid getting to discuss even stuff like PNoy partying while Mindanao was flooding .. The common retort will be "you don't know about our culture .. " My ass ..

Bro, I think it's pretty SOP for China girls. In fact, I asked some of my China colleagues and they say it's harder when they marry a girl from another province because her parents will ask for an apartment (minimum) so that they can take care of their daughter after marriage.

There is really no difference - they expect us to take care of their needs, their family's needs and sometimes, the needs of the entire village.

Marriage is the furthest thing from my mind when dealing with China/Philippines girls. Just prolonged dalliances. I think though, China girls are better if you are in that "asset enhancement policy" thingie a certain government is preaching. Pinays are, like that article linked in an earlier post, just not very good savers and planners. They will spend whatever they have and hope another knight saves the day.

At the end of the day, the sex just has to make up for it.

Bro, I think your one "common measure of intelligence" is not a reliable sample size as you are more astute than the average citizen. Even my colleagues can't engage in a discussion about politics in Singapore for more than 5 minutes...

As long as the girl doesn't go gaga over the latest Twilight movie/latest kimchi flavour of the minute... I'm a happy man.

And I made a wrong move: told my girl I'm looking for some business ideas and now she's asking me to invest in this and that... lucky she hasn't told me to buy land yet cause we all know how profitable that is.
