I travel both "alone" and with friends. All the recommendations in the thread works well. For sauna, company isn't important. So that's a great option. For KTV, just make sure you go to a place with a big hall with open seating (I remember Lion KTV having this and having less experience in KTV, can other bros help out?) or if not find a KTV with a small minimum room charge (Lion's small room charge is 100 RMB + 180 RMB minimum consumption so that's not too expensive even for a lone cheongster if you feel like splurging 100 + 180 + 100 tip to attendant + optional tip to mamasan + tip for MM + 150-400 RMB for hotel room).

The other consideration you need to make is transportation costs. Changping and Zhangmutou is great because they are at train stops. So, its immaterial whether you go alone or with friends since the cost is quite similar. If you go to other areas of Dongguan, cost of transport becomes a factor (big difference between sharing a 200 RMB cab fare and paying for it yourself).
