For a China phone to receive and send Internatinal SMS she got to be on a certain type of plan which required a monthly subscription. The card that most people used "the 伸洲" card...can only sms locally in China and not overseas.

Please check with yr gf what's plan she is on and get her to call her service provider to confirm.

Use 00186xxxxxxxxxxx or 001186xxxxxxxxxxx - It should work with China Mobile (The Telco Company).

international sms is not guaranteed. what i find is that it is very unreliable. here's what i suggest. use download qq (http://im.qq.com/qq/) or popo (http://popo.163.com) and you can send and receive sms via computer. this way is definitely guaranteed to get to your mm. i think qq is charged whereas popo is free. also, note that during peak times, sms isn't always instantaneous. but at least it gets there. also a lot cheaper for both of you too. international sms is 1 RMB per message from china and dunno how much in sg (S$1?). even if you're not online, you can still receive the message and check it wen you're next online.

Ha...ha.. it's useful info. But not that easy to operate. You didn't touch on the start-up and billing part on QQ.

To operate QQ sms service, you need to link yr hp to yr qq a/c and they will deduct 0.10rmb for every sms you made. That's real cheap. The key is those without a china hp and not in China at this moemnt cannot start this service. The password is send to the user via the China hp. So if not in China you cannot start this service even you have a china hp...unless your china hp can roam internationally which many don't subscript to this service...very expensive and huge deposit.

I've been using this sms service for quite a while liao. Th major complain is that the receiving party on frequent occasions could not reply immediate to the sender...don't know why....Got to wait for a few minutes...sometime more inorder to reply a sms....

FR: New Century Hotel Sauna

Continuing the mission to compile a Dongguan HC guide, I dropped by at the New Century Sauna to check the place out. Arriving at the hotel, I find the sauna on the 3rd floor of the main building. Be aware that there's another health centre in a separate building at the back of the hotel with the swimming pool. The sauna occupies the entire 3rd floor and you are at the reception area the moment you step out of the lift. FR: Hui Mei Hotel Sauna

The sauna occupies two levels, first and second floor and is an all-suite establishment. The corridors and the rooms have a distinguishing feature with glass floor sections decorated with sand and sea shells. However, the place shows its age and has clearly seen better days. Decoration and design concept is relatively old and no longer in the same class as the other newer hotels which boast of contemporary colours and furnishing.

The place costs 218RMB for a package of room and 1.5 hours of massage. Tip to girl is 300RMB given at the end of the session. If you choose to stay overnight at the sauna, you have to pay an additional premium and the package including overnight stay would cost 288RMB instead.

Its not immediate mostly because of network congestion. In any case, even SMS from phone to phone isn't always instantaneous. I remember sending SMS during festivals and wah liao, the SMS reached my friend the next day.

Another limitation is that if you register for QQ or Popo using a China Mobile number (135, 136, 137, 138, 139), you can only send to other China Mobile numbers. You cannot send to China Unicom numbers (130, 131, 133). Some stupid rule by mobile operators.

QQ is a little more complicated to use.

I'd suggest you try Popo since SMS on Popo is free. However, if the other party replies to your Popo SMS, I think its a little more expensive (20 cents per SMS? I am not sure). Definitely worth exploring to keep in touch long distance with China MM.
