Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

Barry is a good player..he keeps it simple and is consistent. But is he really worth 18 million pounds? Definitely not and definitely not at the expense of losing a really class player like Alonso.

Downing is overrated. How he is meant to improve the current Liverpool squad is baffling to me. David Silva would be a great buy if Liverpool can afford him.

Bentley would be more suited for Liverpool. He is one of the few midfielders now that can actually cross the ball well. I'll like to see him in a red shirt but sadly, I think he'll go to Spurs.

I'd be happy to take Keane - i.e. a player outside the top 4 in England who will be willing to play for us. He would add value, I think.
didnt want to engage in the pointless arguments which was going on in this thread at one time... hence... well, back for more punishing retorts from ya...

saw a newspaper report (in london) that keane was interested to go to liverpool and spurs immediately slapped a 20mil price on his head...

babel has what it takes to be one of the pillars of the team. i'll be watching his progress closely. injury prone, isnt he?

doesenna - attacking leftback, hor??? that's what i fear most... france got owned 4-1 by the dutch bcos a certain "kay-kiang" leftback kept going up to attack (while contributing nothing)

not at the expense of alonso..

but yes, barry is worth 18mil, cos he is definitely better than a certain michael carrick. did u see the england games that he started with gerrard??? it was beautiful to the point that most people were clamouring for the permanent exclusion of lampard from the team even when he comes back from injury.

too expensive liao... and go spurs for what??? there is a danger of him being converted to a right back leh...

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

Bro Yellowmilk, thanks for the welcome and I have to admit that i'd be lying if I said I wan't a long time suffering fan. It hurts to see such a great team always falling short of expectations. Let's hope things improve this season.

I can't comment about the new additions to the squad as frankly, I've never seen them in action. I'll reserve my comments till later in the season. Let's just hope Degen won't end up like another Josemi.

Agree with Bro AXL. Babel looks like a player to watch. Technically he looks sound and that guy packs a bullet of a shot. He just needs to look up more...dunno why he must always look at the ground when he dribbles.

I still think all English players are way overpriced. Possibly why rafa has no choice but to look overseas.

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

Dear Reds,

we have been talking so much about which players we wish would join liverpool and even i have been eagerly awaiting which world class player would we sign & etc........names like barry, keane, silva, bentley, downing certainly don't raise any eyebrow whereas other teams are talking abt names like ronaldinho, bebertov, ashavin, deco, eto, villa, kaka...........& who do we blame for us not able to afford the best players??? David Moore & the stupid group of Directors on the board who choose to sell their stake to 2 stupid yanks who don't care & don't know a thing about football.

If they had sell to a certain thaksin or DIC, we wouldn't have to bargain 5 times with aston villa over 3 million pounds for barry & even having to sell players like finnan & alonso to bring in players like degen & dossena, goodness!!!!

look at man city, with thaksin's support they are going for players like ronaldinho & Jo & a 50 million trf kitty for mark hughes..........juz imagine if with DIC or thaksin money & the brand of liverpool plus the charm of rafa benitez...........those world class players would be dying to join us!!!!!

why david moores & the goons decide to sell to the yanks we will never know........maybe they offer david & the goons more cut from the deal than thaksin or DIC or maybe bcos they are racists as they dont want to see us falling into asian hands..........but why make us fans suffer more when clearly this 2 yanks cannot compete financially with the likes of man u & chelsea....

sorry for being long-winded but as a lifelong supporter, i really want to vent out my frustration at the current situation............it's alrdy been 18 years............evryyear we drool over which world class players is goin to join us but it's a pipeline dream evrytime..........it's still a miracle that gerrard & carragher choose to stay on & torres & babel joining us last season but clearly that's not enough..........we need more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

we have suffer enough for that elusive holy grail & DIC is our only way out....pls mr hicks & gillet.....spare us the agony & sell...........

juz my 2 cents worth.........thks for reading

Bro, are you sure Thaksin or even DIC is the best for us? Man City have loads of money to burn now but of course they haven't had a stadium to fund.

I'm also unhappy with G&H but what I blame them for is unsettling the team and club with their pointless, public debates (maybe they should buy Aston Villa instead).

But transfer wise, we have done quite well - we have bought Torres, broken the record once for a defender, and just broken it again. We aren't losing our transfer targets cos we aren't willing to pay (e.g. Alves) as was in the case when Moores was running the club.

Just give credit when it's due. The Yanks are smart enough to know that you have to invest to make a profit. The British press, however, aren't that smart.

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

Just read that the Barry saga looks set to be finally over with a cash plus Finnan deal. Good news too is that Alonso seems to be staying. The only problem is that I can't see how the liverpool midfield can contain all these central midfielders. Marsch, Alonso, Gerard and Barry? Where's the width? Without width, our central point of attack would come straight down the middle. I really hope to see at least one or two solid wingers arriving. Kuyt is a decent player but he is definitely no winger. Neither is Babel who I figure will probably play upfront more this season.

Perhaps Rafa should look at Morten Gamst Pedersen? I personally like him... last season he looked below par but over th years, he has been quite brilliant. The guy's got a great left foot that can shoot, cross. Heck..he can even head better than crouch!

All the posts, i decided to tackle on Morten Gamst Pedersen first.
Yes I see well in him, BUT he is like a Benayoun, a Peter crouch, he is thin, he CAN get out muscled. He can be like a Benayoun, but Benayoun is more witty kinda player.

And to top it all, do we really need another midfielder? Our benchwarmers midfielders are doing very fine, very well. The quality is there, they have been superb if not be.

Money matters, I always believe in getting a strong backup, before a serious change can happened. DIC.... damn they r rich. With H&G, there is always this uncertainty feeling. I want it gone. And they are biznessman, who dun wan money? Save ur fortress or have it all gone? seeing all the money and debt liverpool has gotten into?

BUT, i have seemed to adapt to the H&G, after an arguement, patch back and understanding their differences, a new Liverpool perhaps?

The position is call left back and it has a significant meaning.
Hahhaa. Another risse?

Remember Mark Gonzale? Similarities between him and Babel : lose possession easily.
Give him time eh? Hopefully he gets adapted and improves? ... or Be forgotten.

And yay, finally someone who sees the worth in Downing. He is good trust me... but to be able to blend into Liverpool is another thing, finally able to be able to gett into Liverpool is another thing. You bros like Kyut doncha? Downing is like that, but a better crosser, a better dribbler. And he works on the left, and he is available. Bunnytease (Rafael) What r u waiting for?

Sister Bunnytease, miss u. When u will resurface? Yes I know waiting and anticipating is cool, but we ARE addicted, we need our daily dose of Bunnytease now. ^^

Cheers!
Alp.

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

Fresh news. Sky Sports | Football | Premier League | Liverpool | Benitez targets Villa

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has hinted he may target Valencia striker David Villa as a replacement for Portsmouth-bound Peter Crouch.

Crouch is poised to complete his summer transfer to Fratton Park after Pompey agreed a fee with Liverpool on Monday.

Spain's Villa has reportedly attracted strong interest from several leading European clubs after he finished top scorer at Euro 2008.

The 26-year-old has since insisted he is happy at the Mestalla; however Benitez could be set to test the forward's resolve.

Or rather, Fresh rumours.
We need ya! Villa.

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

why would anyone wan to sell alonso for only 12mil pounds and buy barry at 18 mil pounds?

benitez shld just drop the idea of barry and keep alonso and use the remaining 6mil to buy another winger .

No offence but our benchwarmers are frankly below par. The likes of Pennant are good enough for Birmingham but definitely not Liverpool. The guy was bought to cross balls into the box... and you know what - his percentages of actually getting the ball past the first defender is astoundingly horrid.

I agree Benayoun is a good player but he is no winger. His best position is to play behind the striker - thats where he performs best. I also disagree that you need to be well built to be a winger. Most wingers are smaller in stature. eg. Duff, SWP, and even Downing is small built.

Quote:

Villa would be a dream buy. If Rafa can pull it off then it'll surely be the best signing (of recent history) since Torres. But seriously, I dont see how we can afford him when we have cheapskates like H&G managing the purse strings.

Does anyone know why Liverpool keeps signing these supposed promising youngsters from Hungry, Austria etc? I like it that he is planning for the future but then again, what is the point when none of them actually get a chance at first team action. A couple years down, all of them would eventually end up leaving to other clubs and into obscurity. Shouldn't the funds from these purchases be better used to improve the current first team before improving the reserves?

i didnt know he looks down when he dribbles... ala baros!!!

i m hoping for him to get smarter as he gets more games under his belt... i m encouraged by the fact that marco van basten actually changed his tactics from 4-3-3 to 4-2-3-1 bcos of the injury to babel during euros. insinuates a lot for me... maybe i m just reading too much from it...

face the facts, bro. it would be a final last resort to sell to Asians, which caused so much woes recently with the american owners. they r still discriminative against asians. i have said before in this thread that DIC should have had purchased it cos they have honour in their blood and would never want to lose face of not being able to compete with the roubles of russia or the prawn sandwiches of manure!!! but trust me to say, they will not want to sell to asians!!! imagine the slave u freed comes back to buy your chateau...

if that is gonna be their downfall, serve them right. dont believe me??? check out the supporters who r trying to buy back liverpool from the 2 american hacks!!!

a big loss despite finnan's age...

2 defensive midfielders positions to be rotated with mascherano, alonso, barry and lucas. gerrard will take the central attacking midfield role, with babel, benayoun, pennant, kuyt and hopefully, robbie keane, downing, joaquin and silva taking on the attacking midfield roles.

i like morten gamst pedersen too... but a little inconsistent.

Oh no, not again........pls......I agreed everyone have their views on rotation, but the last discussion/debate certainly dun look too good, i mean some very strong words were used.....we are all Liverpool supporters and of course, each of us will have our own views, but we should also learn to listen and try to see each others points, and avoid arguing or worst having a go at each other......

I guess with lucas maturing (I hope) rafa might see alonso as being the extra guy, and also alonso was not playing as much towards the end of last season, not sure is it due to tactical reason or rafa feels lucas is doing a better job together with mach behind SG.

sad to see finnan go too, he has always being consistent, and cross well too, but certainly will like to see some exciting winger joining us.
