I think it has a lot to do with the friendly and helpful nature of most Singaporeans, that they think nothing of asking total strangers. Heck you even have actual government campaigns to foster this feel good atmosphere!

I think your observation is not fully correct...

sinkees dun mind to pay when they think they have no time...they are easy with money but only limited offerings...when they go too often then they will realised they can get better deal if they explore a bit more research and read up...

I had encountered season travelers that wanted to know our good deal with just a simple hello and buying coffee...simply wants us to transfer our years of findings to him...so that he dun have to go spend time and money on rubbish items...this type I also will avoid...

another group is want you to bring him go then you pay your share...he pay his share...but I dun need to go...still have to take time to go and when he is free...as though I had nothing better to do then to spend money...

so usually I ask friends to follow my itinerary and not the reverse...^^

Indeed........ Juz to relate in Dec last year a farang was whack by a group of street hawkers along Sukhumvit Road towards Nana becuz he refuse to pick up the sunglass he accidentally knock on. I was about 10m away from him........ The thai juz shouted fuck u and a group of them push the farang to the floor and whack him like somtam..... Very fast within 2mins it was over, the street hawkers went back to their business and the farang bleeding from his big head was helped to a cab by a passerby farang

Haha yes. I have met travelers who wanted me to share /transfer years of findings and are wiling to buy me a beer so that he wont waste time and $$ on places not worth going to. But I do meet those like u said want us to transfer "knowledge" and expect us to bring them around and to his disposal. I share your sentiments. Lol.

I can comment about hcm and Vietnam because I had flew there monthly for past 8 years...and keeping myself updated on their latest news...also explored the various sexual and non sexual places of interest...

I dare not comment much of Thailand bkk, and other ASEAN cities because I had not been back since 2000 except bkk which I last visited in 2007...believed things change but culture wise should remain not much different except the gen Z...

Many told me visiting and living there is very different...I fully agreed...so I intend to stay longer whenever I have the opportunity...

To me, I was amazed when I visited hcm first time...I was telling myself what you dun get or need plenty of $$$...you can get it cheap in hcm or Vietnam...one is clean toilet...singkieland toilet put to shame compared to any kopi shop toilet in hcm...the next is wifi...every kopi shop no matter how big or small provides fast broadband...you only pay $1 -$3 for coffee...pretty waitresses can chit chat if you speak Vietnamese...next hotel wifi...cheap and good...unheard off that you need to pay wifi broadband charges compared to singkieland hotels...&&

Yes, a very valid observation, but a case could also be made for not being able to see the forest for the trees.

The point being that opinion varies with each individual and discussion boards as this is a great arena to discuss such various thoughts and to possibly learn from each other instead of being dogmatic in our own beliefs. And yes, I always appreciate measured, gentlemanly discourse on any subject.
