I applaud the actions taken by the civilians. The security apparatus of the state had shown their incompetence having failed miserably to maintain law and order. It is an utter shame and a reflection of their inadequacies that fed up civilians had to solve crime on their own, even after putting their faith and tax money to support the state for promised protection and peace under the constitution.

Worse still that their glaring incompetence which was shown by allowing the criminals to escape. While their standard offer of 'investigating the incident' talk is given, the public MUST DEMAND that the officers involved are IMMEDIATELY suspended without pay, put on trial for dereliction of duty and sentenced to jail if found guilty, which is very obvious.

This will send a message to the rest of the security apparatus to take their profession seriously, otherwise such attitude will persist and crimes will continue to rise. Furthermore, the public will lose total confidence of the law and a state of lawlessness will arise within that province and others.

Should the police corps feel slighted and quits, then it would be better if the entire corps quit for it would be senseless to pay and rely on incompetency, and seek more professional ones instead. For 40 years the public had been served with incompetents and would rather wait another 40 years for better ones to be trained up than continue with the farce.

Well, JB has been a very dangerous place and I agree to that. However, I noticed that the crimes happen in some hot spots only and usually at night or early in the morning. Who is it to blame for such crimes?

A criminal (generally) would look for opportunities. And in most cases, you can see that they prey on people 'alone' in secluded spots. ie. Gelang Patah where you can hardly find a soul there at wee hours in the morning. I don't think they will ram you in the middle of Jalan Wong Ah Fook and get away with it. So, the fault lies with the victims as well. When its late, go home and sleep and don't be easy targets.

About Singaporeans entering JB. As long as you stay in public areas, I don't think these things would happen. Btw, i do agree with Singaporeans being snobbish. I was in CitySquare one day and was waiting in line to pay for a shirt. Then, there was this guy in the front of the queue making a scene because of currency issues. He was scolding the cashier because of the rates put forth by the company was about 0.01 sen more than normal money changers. Saying things like, "You think RM very big izzit?", "Singapore Dollar will eat you up one day." I also paiseh when i heard such things. Eventually he just walked off.

Also, have you noticed that we drive our cars in JB faster that we are in Singapore? This perhaps is one of the factors that i see that provoked the locals.

At any case, just remember 1 thing.. it takes 2 hands to clap... just be careful in JB...

bro not true la, remember that case of the motorbike being stolen and the guy being bashed up in broad daylight and just behind the police station? One of my favorite haunts restuarants told me try not to drive in during weekends as more "accidents" happen with the locals racing. Some more this one is very "main road" type so although i agreed with you must take care to be more careful I also avoiding the JB these few months....

Dude ...where hav u been ....criminals recognize /discriminate no Nationalities , creed or color.....they oni hav 1 thing in their mind . CRIME..n t cops jus make it easier for them to conduct their Biz ...
talking abt "driving Faster " ...hav u drive on t North-South Highway ....i hav on so mani occassion "PUSHED" by Malaysian plate Cars (we call them THE "monster" Cars)....these drivers (mostly Malaysian , occassionally a few Sillyporean ) ..neber (i say neber) slow down to wait for you to give way to them ....mind u , i drive at 120km/hr on these roads.....it so beri beri AWAS....

After reading this thread, I have decided not to go JB for the next 2 months till all this robbing and rapping think cool down abit! Scary siah if me or my family becomes the target!

i usually drive very slow on the malaysian highways.. 120 km/hour on the middle or left lanes. dont wanna get involved with those racers on the rights. they will speed all the way at 200km/hour forcing u to siam to the left fast.

in malaysian highway dark areas, never drive too slow at 8-90km.hour. u are giving the malay rapists a chance to rape you and rob u.

if your car breaks down in the highway at 3am in the morning, just hide in the bushes. chances are the highway robbers will rob u if they see u parked along the side.
