Re: Vietnam - HCM
You guys who ride around HCM will sure know the place better. I am just like a blindman there, so i cannot really give directions. I only know how to flag down a taxi, sit in, give the address, then depend on the taxi to bring me there, while i look at the pretty girls riding their xe honda passby.

Re: Vietnam - HCM
Sticky this bitch!
The FAQ - HCMC - as of Spring, 2008 Fly: Lots of options to fly into HCMC via their only airport, Tan Son Nhat. The new international arrival terminal has opened in 2008. Pick your favorite carrier and fly in. Within the country, only two airlines are currently in operations - Vietnam Airlines and Pacific Airlines. There are a few that received licenses to operate, but they won't be making maiden voyages till 2009 at least. Vietnam Airlines is the national carrier, Pacific is the budget carrier that is a joint venture with Quantas. From the Airport: Taxis from the airport into town should be reasonably cheap. District 1 would be about 60k VND or less. The airport is pretty close, but can take a while due to traffic. The meter taxis don't measure time, so this is a good thing. You can take any meter taxi, now that you know the proper price. To be more cautious, take the SASCO taxis, which are the blue-green cars. Most of their fleet are Mazda Proteges sedans. Money: The money here is closely tied to the USD, so your appreciating foreign currencies against the USD makes things continually cheaper here. The exchange rate these days fluctuate between 15,850 - 16,100 VND to 1 USD. Most people on the street just peg it at 16,000 to make life easier. Most places would accept USD but there is not a preference for it among all the locals. Using the Vietnam Dong (VND) is perfectly fine. You can change USD or SGD over to VND at the airport, at the banks (bring your passport), or with the Indian money changing vendors on Mac Thi Buoi street, in downtown District 1 by the Sheraton and all the bars you'll be heading out to. Some people carry USD to make their pockets lighter, because the largest common VND bill is 500,000, which is roughly $32. It is easier to bargain with VND in your pockets however. Communication: You can roam with Singapore numbers. Vietnam uses GPRS, so no 3G service, but free WIFI hotspots are all over. The nicer the place, the more likely the WIFI will be locked and not free. You can buy a SIM card to get a local number. They, and the minutes, are really cheap. From 50k to 100k - more money means more minutes. It is free incoming calls and free incoming SMS here. Any of the big providers are the same within the city for coverage - MobiFone and Viettel are the two big state operators and are the ones most people use. Mobifone has the reputation of having better coverage outside the cities because it came from the military side of the government. Eat: There is good eating all over town, so walk around and enjoy. Late night spots include all the Vietnamese / Chinese places on Nguyen Trai street (don't worry about finding it.. the girls from the clubs all know where it is - about 40k taxi ride from District 1 clubs), the big Chinese restaurant on Nam Ky Khoi Nghia (a block from the Saigon Centre), or the small Chinese noodle shop on Nguyen Hue down from the Sun Wah and the Duxton Hotel (closer to the river). The Chinese cooks stay up late! Stay: All the big hotels are joint ventures with the state owned company, SaigonTourist. So no guest at night, starting from 7pm to 9pm, depending on the hotel. Most $40 and under hotels allow for night time guest, but it is not 100%. Some may make you pay, some may not. How to find out their policy? Read this board, or ask directly when you check in, or ask the massage girls if you should stay at your hotel or move. It is very easy to find another hotel - walk down the street! Play: First thoughts about play - Vietnam is a poor country, but it is not that poor. It has 85 million people, but about 25 million live in the cities, and these are the people you will meet. Most of the people in the countryside earn enough for day to day living, so the average income for the country of 1,000 USD means that the city people earn much more than this average. A girl who can speak English coming out of college will get an office job for $300-500 a month. The minimum wage for a factory worker is $65 per month, but you will not meet any factory workers in the city. So please do not think that one night earnings with you is equal to a month's salary for the girl. It is not. It may be equal to about a week's salary from a "normal" job. That is still a lot, but she is not desperate for the money. This is not like Vietnamese girls in Singapore, or Cambodia or wherever. They have bills to pay off, but they did not invest money in going to Singapore and need to earn a set amount every night. To have the most fun and to get the most success, treat the girls with respect and kindness. They like your money, but they will turn down jerks very easily. Do not be a jerk and have fun. Street action: walk around the tourist spots for on street, back of moto girls. Tourist spots are Ben Thanh/New World, the Zoo area, around Sheraton and down towards the river and the Riverside Renaissance hotel. Other street action includes any of the little parks in town. Parks are used for local couples to sit and make out (or do more!) and for girls looking to find you. Karaoke action: Unless the karaoke says it is a "Family Karaoke" then they will have girls available for you to sit and sing with (or do more!). You can normally request a line up. The smaller the karaoke joint, the more likely it is that they have to import their line up from somewhere else, so more waiting for you. Massage action: Pretty much all the massage places will give you extra services. From HJ to BBBJ, even in the places right next to the Sheraton. Look in the thread for pricing, but non-locals can get a HJ from 200-300k in tips and bbbj at 500k and up. Got a quote of 800k in the Sheraton area and declined. If you ask they will join you after work. The further from the Sheraton the more likely you can get FJ in the massage places. Haircut action: Outside of D1 you can get a haircut and blowjob. I do not know of places downtown. Hair wash places also give you massages, so the massage action applies there. Bar action: Most of you will look around for the bars along Hai Ba Trung, Thai Van Lung, Dong Du, and Dong Khoi. They are pretty much all the same, some have billiards, some do not. I like the non-billiards places on Dong Du where the Sheraton is because the women are less pushy. Club action: All the bigger clubs have PR girls, who work at the club drinking with you. If you hit it off you can take them home after eating Chinese food late at night. The bigger dance clubs also have FL working girls. Just approach a group of girls and say hi. If they are not interested (or not working) they will tell you. Some nights the working girls go out for a girls night out and will not talk to you. The clubs these days are Lush, Liquid, Gossip, D&D (97 Nguyen Thi Minh Khai), America (District 5), Bounce, Prive and X Club. MGM has closed for over a month now. Palace Club is reopening this week. The girls are more interesting and fun at the clubs than the billiards places. For prices, see more on this board. $100 overnight should mostly do it, with $200 being the high end ask sometimes. If you have to pay for a hotel, then the cost is on top of this. Have fun, be safe. A lot of girls here will go bareback, especially with the locals. They only think about pregnancy, which they can easily avoid with the morning after pill (widely available and easy to get) or an abortion. Protect her and yourself please. And remember, free sex costs you much more than paid sex. I live here and can talk a little bit in Vietnamese, so a lot of local girls flirt with me. It is fun and nice but I avoid the free sex scene. You pay for them to leave in the morning. |
