Sorry to repeat, you are my friend, but the fact you are a friend should not impede me to repeat you, once again, that technically speaking a USB-connected portable modem today in 2017 is prehistory, period. No serious IT retailer should even propose it to customers.

Today, the device to use is a Mobile WIFI router (a.k.a. MIFI), something that you DO NOT connect to the USB port of the laptop. Such device has a SIM card with data plan (e.g., the one you mention above) and, on one side, connects to the 4G network of a local operator, while on the other provides a wifi interface, to which up to 10 devices can be connected: that is, your laptop, your phone(s), even the phones of your girls and friends.

It's smaller than a GSM phone. You can keep it in your pocket while you move around walking. The battery lasts for one full day. Anywhere you go in Batam, you are online with all your devices (should you go around with several phones and even a laptop). I am used to go to do my work on my laptop sitting at JCO. I have my MIFI in my pocket and I am online on the laptop and the smartphone. I also play Pokemon Go while walking around Nagoya and Jodoh, always online with my smartphone connected to my personal WiFi.

No need to install a driver, no need to mess up with configurations if the USB device cannot be installed correctly, etc. Only advantages, no drawbacks. In addition, the throughput and overall performance can be also higher (because of the speed limitation on the USB port). I remember I achieved several tens of Megabit/s in some cases (on 4G).
Yes, it is more pricey than a USB-connected modem (there's a reason for that: otherwise, nobody would buy those old modems). My ZTE 4G MIFI costs around 150 SGD in my country, but I am sure cheaper opportunities are available in Singapore.

I and others explained the above several times already. I remember that a photo was even posted. Trust me (just on telecom technical matters).

I got one of this in Batam and so far it has work pretty well (but i am still looking for others as plan B).

It has the option to go on USB as well as wireless,aka wifi. And enables me to connect up to 99 PC/laptop/device that has a wireless wifi card (built-in in most computer/phone).

Hmm...i just realize the name AndroMax has been use on another kind of product too...hehehe...no,thats not what i am talking about.

If i dont remember wrong,there are quite a handful of shops in DC mall selling CCTV cameras. It would be better to get from Batam when N's shop is in Batam itself (warranty,maintenance and repair issue),the CCTV in my office cost my boss in thousands of SGD,hehehe...but i think Batam would be way cheaper.

While surveillance camera may be cheaper in Batam,but i dont know how much maintenance cost would be like (i am quite kiasu when it comes to this kind of thing,i would prefer to get those tech guys to come to my home to get things done and then if any problem,can always get them to help out on-site with some small money). Many major hotels in Batam has very low knowledge on this kind of surveillance securities (Formosa included),hehehe... but i like it that way.

I am planning to buy a new laptop around Feb,March or April (2018) time,maybe we can go shopping for your surveillance camera and bargain for a better price? By now you should know that in Batam,when we buy more things in a particular shop,we will be able to get a better price,just like in the past when i bring more guys to a particular joint to book a bigger number of girls,we all get a way better price (even with driver),hehehe...shopping on I.T stuffs is one of my small hobby too.

The last time i was buying some I.T stuffs in Batam,i stayed in that shop for around 3 to 4 hours,hehehe...and then continue for another 3 to 4 hours the next following day.

That's exactly the kind of device I was advising you to use: a mobile WiFi 4G modem or router. I see here the full description of your device: http://www.smartfren.com/id/m3y/

Then, why you want to connect it to the USB port of your laptop??
Connecting via USB is only bringing problems: above all, the need to install and configure properly the device driver on your system.

The way to use a mobile WiFi 4G modem like yours is:
1) insert a SIM card and connect the device to the local 4G LTE network (Telkomsel in the case of Andromax)
2) connect as many devices as you want (your laptop and several phones) to the WiFi interface of your modem: they will all access the Internet through the router.
No cables, no USB ports involved, no drivers to install.

When you wrote and re-wrote that you want to use a "USB connected portable modem", I understood that you want to use a device which, differently from a Mobile WIFI Router, can only be connected to the computer via a USB port. Those are old devices, still on the market, but not recommended at all. They look like a big USB memory stick and enable the laptop to connect to the mobile 2G/3G/4G network. I used one of those for years.

One last note: I don't know if your Smartfren Andromax m3y is open, or locked to work ONLY with a Telkomsel SIM card.
It is advisable to buy a open one, which can work with SIM cards of any operators (in case you travel to a different country).
