Re: Understanding Vietnamese Life Partner

hi guys...

I'm an on/off poster here...

I know some of the guys here are married to Vietnamese ladies... i'd like to request for some assistance/ directions to getting married to a vietnamese.

My GF is 20yo as stated in her passport.
Therefore, she needs to get parental consent from her parents to get married.

From http://www.rom.gov.sg/WebServer/reg_...of_a_Minor.pdf...

"Wef 1 March 2006, please go before a Notary Public (or Commissioner for Oaths in Singapore) to obtain a ‘Statement of Parental Consent for Marriage of a Minor’."

1. Please enlighten if the notary public need be in Singapore for the statement of parental consent to be legit.

2. Please advise of the costs to get the "statement" notarised and where to do so in Ho Chi Minh in English. (Affordable if possible please.)

3. Any advice with regard to the marriage process would be welcome...

In advance...

Thank you very much for the Vietnam experts!

Thank you very much for the well wishers!

Thank you very much for the well-intentioned doubters!
I've been with her for 2.5 years...
No cheating or doubting issues...
No $ issues...
Co-habitated with her on and off for a few months...
She's been staying at my uncle's place for the last 2 months in KL working >12hour shifts as a "trial"...
(There's no gurantee in life but she's a good catch... trust me! )

Dear Bro,

Wait till she is 21 unless you want to fly her parents in for the marriage. Vietnam does not issue parental consent anymore to discourage foreign bride export. This I got from my ROM translator friend. To get married in vn is one big headache.

I am in the same boat as you are and my gf will only turn 20 this october....

she recently went back vn and I ask her try under table to get it done as ROM say as long it is from the government they accept.

You have to go to the justice department of your gf province and get both parents there to sign the consent. arrangements by lawyers are not accepted by ROM.

depends on her status,if got PR and can speak english or chinese, they would be easy to find job like sale/retail assistant or in F&b line like waitress.Got skill can work as manicurist but if highly educated will be in professional line but mostly not educated so normally they will be at service or F&B line.

According to the internet definition :

`A notary public (or notary or public notary) in the common law world is a public officer constituted by law to serve the public in non-contentious matters usually concerned with estates, deeds, powers-of-attorney, and foreign and international business. A notary's main functions are to administer oaths and affirmations, take affidavits and statutory declarations, witness and authenticate the execution of certain classes of documents, take acknowledgments of deeds and other conveyances, protest notes and bills of exchange, provide notice of foreign drafts, prepare marine or ship's protests in cases of damage, provide exemplifications and notarial copies, and perform certain other official acts depending on the jurisdiction.[1] Any such act is known as a notarization. The term notary public only refers to common-law notaries and should not be confused with civil-law notaries.'

Notarization of documents in Vietnam used to be done by the province or city's Justice Department only, but the recent few years, laws were relaxed and some law firms / lawyers are appointed Notary Public and has the power to notarise documents also. So notarisation of documents in Vietnam need not go thru Justice department only, it can now be done by appointed Lawyers too.
