I went to Thai Express as I like their Tom Yam soup in Singapore but was totally disappointed!
I order "Tom Yam Kung" and the waitress asked me, "You want Seafood, Fish or Prawn?"!!!! They didn't even trained their worker properly.
Worse, when I tried the "Tom Yam Kung", it was SWEET!!! Typical Vietnamese Taste!!! Asked the Manager over, tell him the problem. He went into the kitchen and come back to tell me "It is normal! It suppose to be sweet!" I asked him whether he has been to Singapore's "Thai Express" to try their "Tom Yam" before, he replied me by saying their chief Chef is trained in Singapore and the taste is approved by Singapore. After that, he just walk away.
Many might tell me, the taste should be localised but my point is, Call it Viet express or Viet Thai express!!

Disappointing as it is, it's what they must do in order to do good business here. And from what I hear, the place is wildly popular with Vietnamese now (as well as foreigners). I tried and enjoyed a couple of dishes there this past week, but of course have never been to the one in Singapore, so can't compare the flavors. It was very noticeably less spicy than similar dishes in Bangkok of course.
I've heard they do similiar things with other big brands -- such as Coca Cola, McDonalds, etc: change the flavor slightly to suit the tastes of the locals.
hhhhmmmmm....looks like I might have to give a try. I guess the prices would be =
ST= USD$60
LT=USD$100
BARFINE = 5 LD???
You free to meet up after the holiday???? i guess this couple of weeks might not be a good time to go "shooping"
Yes those are the prices. They were steady the last few years at 700,000 - 800,000 for ST, and about a million for LT, but have jumped up recently.
I just PM'd you about meeting up.

Charging for girls started from the KTVs where you have to buy "hour" for the girl to sit with you. and now it seems that the idea has caught up with quite a few places here.
Some will charge by the hour, and some will you a flat fee per head count. Times are changing......
Wow, I really must get in there and re-visit. I assume if it's that much larger, must be lots more girls than before. Of course I wonder if the one I used to meet is still there. Hard to believe it was 4 yrs ago already.
Greeting, gentlemen. I am planning a kite-surfing trip to Mui Ne in Nov. Just a few questions:
1. What is the most convenient way to travel there?
2. Any bonking opportunity there?
3. Is the MGM cafe in Hore Chi Minh City closed now? If so, which is the current most happening cafe in town?
4. Seems like the most favorable exchange rate can be found at jewelry stores. Any risk of ending up with fake money?
Thanx in advance.
Kite Surfing in Mui Ne???
Anyways
1. By anything that travels on a road. Not sure about trains.
2. It is one of the most boring places I have ever been to.
3. What you mean by happening? If you want to pick up gers, than any cafe in D1 also happening. BTW, no need to go to cafes only to pick up gers
4. Nope

I wont be surprised it is popular when it comes to something that is "new" in Vietnam. Having a huge population here helps..
Mui Ne was mentioned in Business Week as one of the best places to kitesurf in the world because of its wind. Many westerners have set up shops there to teach kitesurfing. I thought to give it a try. Gives me something to do when I don't have a hardon.
I read that MGM was one of those big cafes where you can enjoy many eyecandies, even during daytime. I was hoping there is another one like it.
Bro, thank you for sharing..
