Re: Vietnam - HCM
Update, Part 14...
Last night after work I checked out a few more spots from that superlist posted awhile back. These spots are fairly close to my job, so it didn't take too too long to make a loop including each of them. 1. J-Club in Tan Phu. This is next to Dam Sen Park. It's a multi story disco and cafe (downstairs) -- the disco is the typical setup with a few PR's and funny but there were about 8 of them, about 5 feet tall -- but that's total. Never saw such small PR girls. If you're into midgets, this is the place for you. Worth the drive in that case. Seriously though, this one is just too far away from everything, and it's ok but not worth going that far for. I'm curious what the deal is with all those dark cafes that are in this area and across the street from Dam Sen Park. Anyone know? btw, some of the craziest driving I've seen in Vietnam out in this area. Not for the faint of heart. 2. Club 2000 (Nhac Tre 2000). This is in District 6 just a bit further out than 4 Trong 1 -- if you follow Hau Giang street over the bridge, it's off on the next parallel street a little past the bridge. This place was surprising hopping with what looked like quite a lot of PR's and some of them quite cute. Spotted at least one promotion girl who looked modelesque. The song and dance show was the most ambitious I've seen since Cat Dang used to do that. Quite good. It's not huge but just has great energy. Better to go early since table are claimed quickly, and latecomers get seated on the balcony upstairs, out of the action. 3. Nemo. I actually didn't go into this one, was pretty tired by the time I got there. It's pretty close to 2000, same neighborhood. Judging by activity outside, it looked like it was dead in comparison to 2000. Will check it out sometime in future, but hopes not high. Finally, some unbelievable flooding in District 6 and 11 out here. Whole wide streets were deep impassable canals. It's not rain, it's tides. Could it be that global warming is beginning to claim our city? Saw similar scenes in Binh Thanh district earlier this week. |

Saigon River Tides Flood HCMC
====================== High tides on the Saigon River badly flooded parts of Ho Chi Minh City yesterday afternoon. The worst affected were streets in the Van Thanh market area and Nguyen Huu Canh Street in Binh Thanh district, which were submerged. Ngo Quyen and Nguyen Trai Streets in District 5 and Nguyen Van Luong, Pham Dinh Ho, Hau Giang, Le Quang Sung, and Kinh Duong Vuong Streets, and the Phu Lam traffic circle in District 6 also were also flooded. Many of the places were almost half meter under water until 9pm. Dykes in Districts 12 and Thu Duc have been consolidated but the water still overflowed in some places. Districts 12, Thu Duc, Go Vap, Binh Thanh, Hoc Mon, and Cu Chi should prepare to cope with more flooding, the city Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Control warned. Totally agreed with you on the flooding, think it was last Friday ... no rain, no storm, clear sky ... then suddenly it just flood on my way home, got stuck like 20 minutes (the traffic was at stand still). Quickly told the driver to reverse back and ended up at Tokyo KTV. Damn the flood.
