Re: An Affair with an older married lady... and the aftermath...
Actually we're pretty normal at work. Just smoking together and send her home last time. Now work from home so there really not much things that make it obvious. The complaint is "anonymous" so I don't know how serious the company is actually treating this.
Well, my first "counselling" is today in office with HR manager. Let's see how it goes. |

Could it be a reader here who happens to be in the same company as TS?

Re: An Affair with an older married lady... and the aftermath...
Actually, we still don't know who wrote the letter.
Suspect the husband. Shouldn't be Ann. She's having too much fun right now I think. Don't think it's any of my office colleagues either. |

Re: An Affair with an older married lady... and the aftermath...
I waited in the meeting room for Shirlyn to arrive. Rebecca was seated opposite me, staring at me. I was getting uncomfortable. I know it was some counselling thing by HR about the recent letter they received, but why did both of them need to be there?
My Ops Manager Helen wasn't around, at least I was sure this wasn't performance or job related. R: So. You like married ladies huh? Me: What? R: I'm married also, you rarely talk to me. Me: Our job roles rarely cross? R: Doesn't mean you cannot talk to me right? Me: Talk? Or engage in an office affair? I kind of regretted saying that the second it came out of my mouth. R: Aiyah. Who doesn't know about that? The whole company knows. Your manager lor, steal my guy. Me: I don't think that's what really happened, but… R: So, you and Jasmine? Me: It's not what you think. R: You can tell me. I understand. We women have our needs. Me: I think I should wait for Shirlyn. R: Aiyah. She won't understand one lah. I think she still virgin. Wasted, her boobs so nice, body so slim. If I was a guy… Me: Right. S: Ahem. We both got startled as Shirlyn suddenly appeared. She placed a file on the table. S: Obviously I can't show you the letter we received, but it was delivered by courier. I cannot say who wrote it, as it is anonymous. But the allegations are that Mark caused the irrevocable breakdown of a marriage due to his actions with a married lady, who is named in the letter. Me: Uh-huh. S: Now the official company policy doesn't forbid intra-company relationships, but because one party is married, it is generally frowned upon in the moral aspect. Hence, we need to talk to you, counsel you in a sense. But take note we're not trained counsellors, but can arrange for you to see one if required. Me: I- R: Trust me, she said the same things to me. Shirlyn stared at Rebecca. S: Now, I have already spoken to Jasmine over the phone, and she has told me that she actually has applied for an EO and PPO against an abusive spouse, and that she's lucky you were around to help her, even getting a friend to stay with her for the time being. She said it's likely her spouse is jealous and wrote the letter to sabotage you. I told her there's no indication who wrote the letter, but noted on her explanation, and told her to let us know if she needed any assistance. R: How did you help her? S: Rebecca! Can you stop cutting in? You're supposed to be learning, not digging for gossip! R: Sorry, but I'm really curious. Aren't you? S: Of course I am! But I'm also professional. I can always ask him over a cigarette or coffee outside of work. R: You got smoke meh? S: No. But smoke breaks are for networking. Didn't you know that? R: Oh. At that moment, I didn't know how upfront I should be about my relationship with Jasmine. But whatever we did, it was done out of company time, and did not affect our work whatsoever. Me: Yeah. She's in a bad state now. Found out her husband has another family overseas, then he beat her up. That's the short version of course. R: So did you sleep with her to comfort her? S: Rebecca, please leave the room. Now. Rebecca grudgingly left. Shirlyn looked at me. S: Well? Did you? Me: I don't think it's relevant. S: Look, I know how guys can be like in situations like this, and girls as well. We just have to appear needy, and guys will fall for it. But, just so you know, if anything happened that isn't related to work, you don't have to say it. I probably had to lie a little to ensure the gossipy people wouldn't have much things to talk about. Me: Nothing happened, I was just looking out for her as a friend and colleague. My friend is staying with her now to help look out for her anyway. I'll check in with her every now and then. S: Ok. Has this incident or any other incident affected your ability to perform your job tasks? Me: Nope. I don't think so. S: What about things at home? We don't have a lot of information about your own family matters. Me: That's not very relevant either. S: Helen said you're cohabiting with her friend? Me: It's complicated, but no, I don't cohabit with her friend at the moment. S: Some rich older lady? Me: That's in the past. S: Didn't know you're a toyboy. Me: Hey. That isn't very professional. S: Just teasing. I felt something hit my calf lightly. Shirlyn was stretching her legs and accidentally hit mine. Or was it on purpose? She smiled at me but didn't acknowledge it. S: We'll have to monitor your performance as usual. But as far as I can see I think you're doing fine. I hope you aren't involved further than what you say you are though, whether it's with Jasmine, or your own situation. It sounds pretty messy. Me: Noted. She hit my leg again with her foot. I swear it was on purpose this time. S: You can always talk to us if you need any help or advice. Me: Sure. S: Ok. I think we're done here. Me: So do I head home or stay in the office? S: Since you're here, you might as well stay here right? Then don't need to come back on Wednesday. I'll be clearing my paperwork as well. Doesn't make sense to come all the way here just to go home. Me: Alright. I left the meeting room and headed to my desk where my bag was. I needed to get a coffee and didn't want the instant stuff in the pantry. I probably could go for a smoke as well. Rebecca looked at me. R: Where are you going? Me: Buy coffee and smoke. R: She's done with you already? Me: Yes? R: Wow. How come my own counselling was so long. Like a few hours… Me: Maybe because I didn't sleep with the staff and fight with my colleague? R: Funny hor. Me: Quite. I wondered if she knew that he had kept the compromising photos, or that I had seen them. R: Can get me a drink too? Teh ga dai. Me: Ok, looks like I have to go to the hawker centre. I better ask Shirlyn too. R: She don't drink coffee or tea one. Me: Then what does she drink? R: Plain water. Me: I'll still ask her. I headed to her office and knocked on the door before opening it. Me: Hey- oops. I had caught her mid-stretch, arms over her head. She had removed her blazer and was only wearing a tight tank top. I guess I stared at her chest for a little longer than expected. S: What's up? Me: I'm going to the hawker centre to get coffee. Want anything? S: No. I'm good. Me: Sure? S: Yes. And don't make it so obvious you're staring at my chest next time. I might get the wrong idea. Me: Sorry. S: Just teasing. Won't give you a bad appraisal for that. Me: Right. I left and headed to the hawker centre. Sometimes I felt that my colleagues were really odd. |
