SINGAPORE: Two men have been arrested by the Police Coast Guard (PCG) for attempting to leave Singapore illegally by swimming across the Straits of Johor to Malaysia on Friday (Feb 5).

The Coast Guard was informed by the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) at 1.25am that two men were seen loitering suspiciously along the shore of Woodlands Waterfront, the Singapore Police Force said in a news release.

At 2.08am, officers successfully located and arrested two men aged 23 and 28 for the offence of attempting to leave Singapore at unauthorised place under the Immigration Act.

Commander of the Police Coast Guard, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Hsu Sin Yun said the arrest is a testament to the Coast Guard's resolve to safeguard Singapore waters. "PCG will continue to be steadfast and vigilant in fulfilling our mission, which is to prevent, deter and detect crime in the Singapore Territorial waters,” said SAC Hsu.
