Spmlb,
Just go to Soi Bangala, that's the main area for action! Just becareful of the ladyboys! Also, don't rent jetskies or other beach appratus to minimize problem. Also, be very careful of the taxi mafia at the airport.

There's two areas in phuket, for your info. Soi Bangala is located @ patong beach, so is Banana pub/club. Phuket Town ( night life and live pistol firing if u r interested in this stuff) is another area, if u travel down from airport, u shall hit phuket town then patong beach.
Btw, which hotel u stay, popa palace of patong beach best lah, 5 mins walk and u reach bangala liao, go 'tiger' (located 2nd lvl, use the staircase) fishing lor or banana club, more expensive or patong premium? below got a seafood stall if u enjoy seafood, look for bigbird, the stall owner, get friendly with him, maybe got discount   Damn, i shall miss mine, no $$.

Patong beach is where all the tourists go to as it's just packed full of bars and what not. When you're there you will only see mainly ang mohs running around. It's easy and convenient as you have the beach, hotels, restaurants, shopping, and "Action." But it's a tourist area and you won't find many locals there.
If you're more adventurous then venture into Phuket town. It's not dangerous or anything but there you will find lots of local pubs and bars etc. etc. Your only problem may be feeling a bit out of place as you're not local. English is a bit of a problem so if you're an outgoing type then head down there and take a look and practice your sign language. You can look at the other Phuket thread and find all sorts of info there on Patong and Phuket town. Enjoy yourself!!
