Over 1 million affected by Thailand floods

(NECN/MCOT) - The flooding situation has remained critical in several areas in Thailand although train services on northern routes have resumed after a temporary suspension overnight.
The northeastern Nakhon Ratchasima or Korat has been hardest hit by the latest floods in Thailand this year, considered the province's worst floods in half a century, particularly in Pak Chong and Pak Thong Chai Districts as flash floods from Khao Yai National Park caused by torrential downpours over the past couple of days have continued inundating the areas, killing at least four flood victims so far and submerging some areas about a one-metre-depth.

Floods have covered 21 districts in Nakhon Ratchasima and affected over 1 million people. The disaster has damaged over 150,000 rai or over 240 square kilometers of farmland.

In the eastern Prachin Buri Province, its main Kabinburi Market has been most hit by the province's worst flood in a decade--as it is now some 50 metres under water.

In the northeastern Chaiyaphum Province, officials have urgently released water from the overflowing Lam Pratao Dam to prevent its break-up, but flash floods from a local highland coupled with the overflowing water from the dam have begun flooding the compound of the provincial government centre.

However, train services on northern routes have resumed operations since this morning after hours of temporary suspension caused by flood-ridden damages to some sections of local railroads on the routes.

Quite surprised to learn that Thailand is having flood problem again. My ex-gf is living in Maha Sarakham / Roi Et.

Wondering how she is doing now.. Any bros living/ travelling in the land of smiles can post some live reports here? Deeply appreciated..

Four die in Korat flooding

At least four people have died in the heavy flooding in Nakhon Ratchasima province, disaster relief officials said on Monday morning.

Many people in flood-hit districts such as Pak Thongchai, Sung Noen, Chokechai, Sikhiu, Dan Khun Thot and Pak Chong are trapped in their homes, as the water has yet to recede.

Water from Pasak Jolasit Dam in Lop Buri gushed into Ayutthaya this morning, forcing l residents to evacuate their homes.

The level of floodwater in Ayutthaya's Tharua, Nakhon Luang and Bang Pa Han districts had risen by almost a metre overnight.

Many residents could not leave their homes or use toilets. Provincial authorities warned that the water may rise even further.

Public Health Minister Jurin $$$$$nawisit said hospitals and clinics in several provinces were inundated by floodwaters, with damages estimated at more than 100 million baht, but they were still providing services.

Mr Jurin said at least 10 hospitals and clinics had been affected so far.

His ministry had set up a centre to organise alleviation of flood problems and provide added medical assistance, especially in Nakhon Ratchasima province.

"Flash floods may hit the Central and Northeast regions again and mobile medical units have been dispatched to provide immediate assistance.

"If there are too few medical personnel, they can ask for more staff from neighbouring provinces straight away," the minister said.

He called on people in flood-hit areas to dispose of their waste in black plastic bags and avoid polluting the water.

"People should not use or drink floodwater unless chlorine is added or the water has been boiled," he said.

Health officials have been dispatched to distribute chlorine, medicines and emergency supplies to people in affected areas.

National army chief Prayuth Chan-ocha ordered the army to provide assistance to people affected by floods in the northeastern provinces.

The worst affected areas are in about 15 provinces in the 2nd Army Region.

Gen Prayuth said authorities have boats to assist the villagers and provide them with clean water, food and other necessities, and have dispatched army's medical units to provide them with basic care.

The army's repair units have also been sent to help fix roads and bridges damaged by floods.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva visited Nakhon Ratchasima this afternoon to assess the flood situation.

Interior Minister Chavarat Charnvirakul and his deputy Boonjong Wongtrairat also flew to the province today to distribute emergency supplies to affected residents.

just daily evening showers.. its not heavy.. just rain fucking hours... thats why got flood..

PM visits flood victims in Lop Buri

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on Thursday morning visited people suffering from the flooding in the central province of Lop Buri’s Ban Mi district, reports said.

He was accompanied by PM’s Office Minister Ongard Klampaibul.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported that from Oct 10 to 20, floods hit 6,814 tambons of 21 provinces in the North, Northeast, East and Central Plains.

They are Phichit, Chainat, Suphanburi, Angthong, Ayutthaya, Rayong, Trat, Sa Kaew, Nakhon Ratchasima, Prachin Buri, Lop Buri, Nakhon Sawan, Chaiyabhum, Saraburi, Petchabun, Nakhon Nayok, Si Sa Ket, Tak, Surin, Buri Ram and Khon Kaen.

Altogether 814,406 people were affected by the floodwaters and 15 people had died as a result, the department said.

The death toll on Thursdasy morning stands at four each in Lop Buri and Buri Ram, three in Nakhon Ratchasima and one each in Rayong, Trat, Sa Kaew and Chaiyabhum. One person was reported still missing in Nakhon Ratchasima.

I arrived to BKK on 14 Oct (last Thursday) and since-then it was raining 'non-stop' till i depart back 2 Singapore, it was still raining no-stop

Arrived BKK 2 days ago, did not rain while we are here, since then. Managed to play a round of golf, but dam soggy, not fun...

But everyone advised us against continuing our journey to Korat - Khon Kaen. Maybe they want us to stay in BKK

Korat IS badly hit.....
