Providing a gift on your first meet up?

A sudden thought came to my mind on my way back home yesterday, so decided to bring it out for some “discussion”.

I had a good friend previously (we had parted ways though) who went out on a date with a lady introduced by my mum.

The lady gave him a gift on their first meet up. My friend was taken aback and fumbled to get her a gift after their movies.

I actually feel it’s a very good way and thought on the girl’s part.
Man… how I wish I was the recipient then ;p.

I feel, we should provide a gift as a token for the first meet up.
Likewise the lady should do that do.
It takes two to tango.
It need not be expensive. It’s the thought that counts. 

Ok, the million dollar Q to this thread:

If you have prepared the gift and it is well hidden (the lady/man will not know unless you say it out), BUT, to your despair, you dn’t have chemistry and want out and will take the meet up as the first and last date, will you:


1) Still offer the present? Treat it as a farewell gift.
What is your reason for doing so?

2) Keep it? Since it’s the end of the road (Save it for future use)
What is your reason for doing so?

The best reason to me (may not have one as I am quite picky ;p) will get a complimentary coffee/drink from me if I get to meet you in future. ;p

IMHO, I would give her the gift even though it be the 1st and last date cos the gift was meant for her. Treat it as a "Thank You" gift rather than a "Farewell" gifts cos we never Know what the future holds but we can trust that both of us will part with good vibes and memories..Who knows, she might intro her friends to you or become your FB Also not very sincere to pass a gift to a new date originally meant for a previous date

On a lighter note: It's very "ma-fun" troublesome to keep the gift - bring here bring there - Hide here hide there - Think here think there - collecting dust - Just give la

I remembered when i was young... did an act out of "goodwill"...... result in some misunderstanding ............... then several weeks later heard that the grl "committed suicide".......... :S............ being kind is no good at times..... good ppl die early... :S ;p

IMHO, just give and make a friend and ensure she knows it directly or indirectly. You. Ever know who else she might lead/introduce you to for being that gentlemen or friend. No need think so much. Even friends are hard to cum by these days.
