An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:
Appanah Apparoo, the club grounds keeper at Ceylon Sports Club on Balestier Rd, saw a woman on fire and screaming in pain on the field yesterday.
It is reported that she had come onto the field from a white screen about 100m away but was engulfed in flames. She later fell onto the grass.
He and two other colleagues had rushed to put out the flames but she had died despite their efforts. This had occurred around 11:50am.
The Manager of the club went to investigate the scene after he realised that she was already dead. Behind the white screen she had emerged from, he found a box of cigarettes, some matches and a bottle of kerosene.
The SCDF rushed to the scene when they were alerted.
Even after her body was removed, the burned shape of her body remained on the grass.
