Body of jobless, depressed man found in S’pore River

January 4th, 2014 | Author: Editorial

Mr Lee Eng Hock's body was pulled out of Singapore River by SCDF personnel.

The body of Lee Eng Hock, 59, was identified yesterday (3 Jan) by members of his family.

His body was pulled out of the Singapore River near Upper Circular Road on Thursday afternoon (2 Jan).

He was said to be jobless and suffered from depression, his younger brother Lee Eng Hwa, 57, told the media yesterday.

On the same day, another body was fished out of Kallang River. The body belonged to a 29-year-old man wearing jeans, a grey shirt and leather shoes.

A cleaner was clearing rubbish at Kallang River when he spotted a balding head under Nicoll Highway near the Kallang Water Sports Centre. The body was retrieved with the help of a PUB boat. No injuries were apparent.
The body of the deceased was identified by his uncle yesterday. The uncle said that his nephew was the middle child and had two siblings. The deceased lived alone and had a sales jobs in Arab Street before he died. His father is currently in India and his mother died about three years ago, said the uncle.

Police have classified both cases as unnatural death and are investigating.
