Need help in appealing for entry of my VN wife with a criminal record

Hello everyone,

I am a Singaporean, 25. I knew my Vietnamese wife since Mar 2012 and got married in May 2013. I have been in Vietnam for the past year and a half with her after she was deported back in Aug 2013.

I met her when I was finishing studying at ITE, after NS. Just before starting to work. I do not have anything valuable on me other than my youth and Singaporean Citizenship. So I jumped into the relationship like most kids would do.

Fast forward, I got a job, worked for a year, got lied into quitting my current job to join a bank IT job that was "confirmed" but end up gotten KIV (Keep In View), and eventually lost into the abyss.. I started a juice stall and tried my best to work things out financially. Got too busy and my wife went astray.

This was only after 3 months into my business and marriage. Her friends asked her to follow them to RWS casino for a round or two while I was out working. Little did I know that she continued gambling for a whole month before the incident took place. Along with a lost of about $30,000.

She was kind of neglected by me while I was at work, Vietnam having problems with her own family, and the lost of $30,000 over the period, she started betting on multiple tables to hasten her recovery. The "friend" of hers, who is there only to ask winners for some "lucky money", went to "suggest" her to take back her bet when the banker didn't notice that she lost the bet. Her "friend" showed her once and it worked, she wasn't caught and it seems easy enough to do too.

My wife is not stupid to do such a thing, but by playing multiple tables, she sometimes did not know whether if the results are out or not yet and with her "friend" following her, prompting her to take the bet back on the tables, saying you didn't lose, she did it. And one fine day, she was caught. Caught for cheating a mere $200, and 2-3 more incidents of less than $50. Amounts that my wife can easily earn in Vietnam.

It was after lunch hour. I've received a letter from ICA that says I am able to apply for Long Term Pass for her that very morning. Thought she wakes up late, so I thought I would tell her after lunch. This sounds so much like a story but I guess stories comes from experiences of people.

I rushed down to RWS and she was sent to Clementi police station. I ensured her that I am right behind her. Went over there only to receive a call from her investigating officer that she is sent over to Cantonment HQ. Caught a glimpse of her entering the police car. She saw me there, and I mouthed the words of "Don't worry, I am there for you", and I can see that she felt slightly relief.

I am not sure what help you need...your story is nice but I am not sympathetic to you...

if you want to know how to appeal...then your chance is as good as nil...because the case is still not even 3 years old...

if you still want to try...you can write in to appeal...also see your MP and hopefully your MP is the Senior Minister for Home Affairs, Minister for Home Affairs, Deputy PM or PM...

pls note you may have to appeal many times and trips to ICA and MPS...try to volunteer in RC or MPS...

alternatively - you may opt to live in Vietnam or consider divorce with your wife...^^

Sorry, was restricted to 3000 words. Was waiting for my thread to be approved.


Went to Cantonment and, as expected, I have to wait. Called my father and told him there is some problem with my wife and not to tell mother about it. The IO told me to come back at 7pm after investigating my wife at the bailor's room. Got her out at around 9pm after signing the bail. I was lucky that there was no cash involved for the bail, just my IC. I/O said the bail is $10,000, but I wasn't asked for my bank account with that amount or anything.

So, there goes my business. Sold my business after the crucial 3 months slogging period. Court hearing was delayed by the I/O as he hinted me strongly that she will be definitely deported back. Delayed for 3 months and she was sentenced to 1 month in jail. There is this, minus weekends and holiday from jail term, she ended with 3 weeks jail time.

Unlucky thing is, her release is on a Saturday. They told me that ICA opens half day on Sat and closed on Sun and they need to verify her ticket back to Vietnam. So she had to sleep in lockup in ICA for that Saturday and Sunday. Aircon seems free and was being blasted full on those who are in lock up, no blanket nor jacket. Food is miserable. Hygiene wasn't there. It is worse than prison.

Got to call her and 1st thing she said was that, there is a lady from Indonesia that was being cheated to work in Singapore. She was jailed for overstaying and currently she has no money to buy her return ticket back to Indonesia. She was in lock up for more than a week already. And my wife wanted me to purchase the tickets for this lady. I did. And those are the times that makes me feel that she is the one and I shouldn't leave her just like that.

So on that Monday, I went to the airport with my parents. I brought a big luggage with me. It's mostly my clothes. This is something that has been killing me slowly over this whole incident. I had to choose between my wife or my parents. And I am lucky enough that my parents understands me. It's either I go over, or the marriage is over.

I have been writing into ICA for at least 15 times over this period and went back to Singapore just to look for GCT with my father to help appeal for my wife's return. ICA is being heartless. The appeals includes my parents' deteriorating health condition, my dilemma of choosing between my wife and my parents, me and my wife is truly in love with each other, a deposit of $25,000, GCT's witnessing my father's poor health, wanting to start a family in Singapore, wanting to be able to plan at all. All was being rejected with a template mail of "Sorry, but we have to reject this appeal. Because we follow a set of rules and regulations, that we are not going to disclose to you." I even went over to ICA building to appeal and got a "Sorry hor, this is not for me (officer that supposed to be helping in appeals) to decide, you want can try again via letter." "NEXT!"...... There is a man outside who is married to a Indonesian(?) and was about to go for a heart operation, entry of wife, denied.

And today, I am writing this post to see if there is anyone who has the same experience and has successfully appealed for your spouse entry. I would really appreciate it.

A few things that was suggested to me over time, and a hint from a Ex-ICA officer (but he cheated girls saying he can bring them enter Singapore for a "nominal" fee (Say $1-2k..) So I'm not too sure if his method works..).

- (Ex-ICA Officer) Write in to CID and ask their permission first, get a few non family members, but got some name, to sponsor. (Trying this now..)

- Wait 5 years then try again, sure can. (Really cannot do this. My parents are in their 70s.. I don't want them to leave this world with the thought of I am a nobody... Who would ever want to see their child to not succeed? I for one would want them to enjoy their golden years, not spend their time worrying about me.)

- Divorce lor. (If I wanted to, I would have done so earlier..)

- Bo bian, don't go back SG lah.. (I want to start a family already. Vietnam is good but being able to be in Singapore has it's advantages.)


If anyone has any questions regarding the same situation and you are in the process of it, I am glad to share my experiences/advise.

ICA has made the right decision. There are already enough criminals in Singapore without you trying to add more to the mix.

dun waste time la...just have to wait longer...the ICA cannot allow such incident...

Yup, ESM Goh Chok Tong. He sent in 3 appeals to ICA for me during MPS. That didn't work. I'll try a few more things before accepting the "wait for 5 years" option.. Anyways thanks for the replies. I'm also in HCM now doing some business with my wife.. Hahaha.. I am assuming you are retired already?

For whoever else is reading this, the period of getting apprehended to release is quite a horrible experience and I have nobody to talk to back then. If anyone out there is going through the same as me and wants to know what will happen during that period of time or after, feel free to PM me.

P.S. I found the SBF of Vietnam, anyone interested can pm me too.. Hahahahaha...

I don't think it'll be fair to group everyone who committed a mistake together. Unless you want put murders and a vandalist together.. (Which they somewhat actually did in the Women Prison..) Though it is still a crime done, I was hoping they would be able to see it's just a minor crime of less than $500.. and let it rest already..

Anyways, I'm writing this post primarily to ask if there's anyone having a proper channel that ICA is not disclosing for appeals on these type of case. And secondary, if anyone is going through the same at this point of time, I can help a little with whatever I know..

bro you forgot to tell us how you met your wife.what was she working as when you met her?

Didn't want to be even lengthier, so left those out.. cause.. since we are in this forums, starting of all these stories are more or less the same ba.. Hahaha... To summarize, I met her at Armarni (currently V6), she's quite well off in Vietnam doing her own business and she was there to run away from her own problems in Vietnam and at the same time earn some money.

The best part of this meeting is how I and 1 of my last surviving chionging buddy got the room that brought us together. My friend booked a room at RS without confirming it's room size. We reached City Square at 5pm only to realize that he had booked a Large room, with only 2 of us. $3xx I believe.

So it was like, not going to happen.. started walked around a bit and landed at a coffee shop. I searched for GM, W, K2 number. All full house. Lastly found Armani's number and my friend called. A lady picked up and told him there's a small room available, $1xx, and asked if he want to confirm booking. My friend si beh gei kiang went to tell her "Eh, ok, wait ar, I confirm with you again." then hang up the call before I can even say anything.

I quickly took his phone and called back. A man answered. "No, no more small room, you want, we got big room, $4xx.. ai mai?" We only 2 people big room for what... ~.~ I decline and put down the call..

We ended up with having Thai Disco or Pinoy pubs.. Both of which we got sick of at that time.. I don't know why but my friend just went to call back Armani number again, and the lady picked up. And she straight away ask "so you still want the small room?". "YES LA. WE REACH IN 5 MINUTES.." (I'm sure all of us got at least one point of time like this feeling ba..)

That night met her lor.. I think the meeting part almost the same liao.. "Can sit?" "No no" "Can la.." "Ok lor.."..

*To that bro, who is actively reading this forums, Sorry that I didn't tell you this incident. You read this story sure know who am I liao.. Hahahaha.. Sorry ar.. Nobody would want to let other people know of their spouse's wrong doings..*

your wife is a former WL...what you expect...she earns easy $$$...if she is doing well in Vietnam she wouldn't have to come to sinkieland to work as WL...

I advised all my friends never bother to go after a WL...you can pay and bonk but no string attached...

sure a few of my friends had a relationship...all relationships ended badly and very painful...

And this part.. She not those 1 girl collect $1-2k type.. She only take $700, bao everything.. That's why I'm so-called ok with what she's doing.. And that's why she's in SG back then...

Anddddddddddddddddd... We want to go back SG not because of the ease of doing this job, I want her to quit this and start a proper business with me.. That's why need to go back SG.. If not in VN, she keep getting stressed out by this stupid business... *Sorry ar, real life nobody to talk to on this matter.. Hope the annoymity here really works..*

Your nick, you born in 1988?! Or 88 as in Huat? LoL.. If 88 retire liao, si beh power sia.. Where you will be retiring to? HCM or village side? Now village side still can buy a 10*20m 1 storey house for ~S$12-15k.. I plan to get 1 soon at Dong Thap, my wife's hometown. Hahaha...

haha...no no...I am close to withdraw CPF age...although still not yet...I took this nick was then Hurricane Katrina swept past Mississippi state back in 2006...then already a few nick starting with Hurricane so I chose Hurricane88...

I will never buy any property in Vietnam...will only rent and stay...stretching my SGD retirement funds...
