THE SINGAPORE GOVERNMENT ACTUALLY RECOGNISES DUAL CITIZENSHIP - The Evidence...

DEAR TRS, THE SINGAPORE GOVERNMENT ACTUALLY RECOGNISES DUAL CITIZENSHIP Post date: 18 Jan 2015 - 10:42am Dear TRS, It appears that the Singapore government actually recognises dual citizenship. This is apparent from a recent letter I received from CPF. The letter was an application form for the CPF LIFE plan. I was curious when I read the explanatory notes on the application form as there was one section outlining the eligibility requirements. Under the LIFE Bonus eligibility section, part (b) said that you need to be a “Singapore Citizen (excluding dual citizenship)”. Does this mean that the government knows that there are dual citizens and they actually acknowledge, recognise it and allow it? This is a CPF LIFE form so I don’t think it is being sent to young children who are still allowed to hold dual citizenship before deciding on which passport to hold onto when they become legal adults. I know there are some foreigners who have to “give up” their foreign passports to become new citizens but I guess the government knows there are many others who actually still two citizenships and they simply don’t care. Why is there even a rule against it if even government forms are acknowledging that people have dual citizenship?!?
