An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

KUALA LUMPUR: Liang Liang, a giant panda living in Malaysia’s Zoo Negara, on Tuesday (Aug 18) gave birth to a cub in the Giant Panda Conservation Centre (GPCC).

At the official announcement of the birth on Wednesday, Zoo Negara deputy president Rosly @ Rahmat Ahmat Lana said the veterinary experts and staff at the GPCC had been able to detect a change in Liang Liang's behaviour over the past two weeks.

"Liang Liang began to show extraordinary behaviour, such as losing appetite, being less active and making peculiar sounds, two weeks ago. Since then, our veterinary experts had begun carrying out blood test and measuring its weight, before they finally decided that there was an 80 per cent probability that Liang Liang was pregnant," he told Bernama.

Rosly added that staff at GPCC in Kuala Lumpur saw Liang Liang showing labour symptoms when they took it out to the exhibition area at 10 am.

“Liang Liang appeared to have uncontrolled anxiety until about 1 pm when it went to a hidden corner and gave birth to a cub,” Rosly said, adding that they had yet to determine the gender of the cub as Liang Liang had kept it in a hidden corner at the GPCC's exhibition area.

"Liang Liang also seemed to be quite aggressive and unapproachable after giving birth," he said.

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak showed off photos of the cub on Twitter on Wednesday. "The offspring of Liang Liang and Xing Xing, the Zoo Negara pandas. The cub doesn't look like a panda, but it's still cute," he wrote.
