Ox gona be another Sturridge eventually.. Pool definitely need to get another midfielder, CB n striker. Keita also I believed won't be long he'll get injured again!

Add Matip and Shaqiri to the list. Because of our strength in depth in central midfield.. at least we can get Fabinho to play CB at times. Ox will not be easy to sell with his long list of serious injuries.

Saw bits of this game this morning (replay) while watching the CL final (replay as well). A good work out for the boys under tough conditions. Keita looked very good. Pleased to say Minamino looked bright. He reminds me of Yossi Benayoun. Clearly a good player but I just don't know where he fits in a 4-3-3? Young lad Billy Koumetio looks like a beast, promising talent. Brewster looked lively. Must say Wijnaldum was also very good both in defence and attack when he came on. Definitely should get him to stay on if possible.

On the CL final, well Munich join us on six and deservedly so. A real pity we were not their opponents, probably would have been a better final. Pep and his oil masters must be relieved:p. Tuchel cmi when it really counts. He leaves Icardi and Sarabia on the bench and brings on Choupo Moting? What about Draxler? Neymar was good but on his own he was not enough to carry PSG. Unfortunately Mbappe was not 100% fit and looked lacklustre. Nevermind Mbappe you are always welcome to join us and stand a better chance of winning a CL medal (same for KDB of City:D). Coutinho finally looked happy, funny how life can change from ups to downs and back to ups again so fast?! Oh yes and Thiago Alcantara looked good, so fingers crossed on this front.

Congrats to Bayern Munich. Hopefully with the CL win and added bonus they will be more willing to let go of Thiago to LFC.

Pool need to wrap up the Thiago deal asap as others are also eyeing his signature.

Congrats to Liverpool. :p Because Coutinho won the Champions League and Barcelona need to pay us more for his transfer. I hope the Thiago issue is settled before he goes for his holiday.

Strangely Coutinho is winning many titles since leaving us. La Liga, King's Cup, Bundesliga, their German cup competition, Champions League and yet he does not know where he will play next season.

Liverpool don't need Messi. As Rooney says Thiago is a better player for Pool than Messi. I do hope we get Thiago into our team. And another quality defender.

This season will be even tougher with quality players joining Chelsea, MC, Arsenal etc.

The only team Messi will join is MC with Pep and the $$$ they can offer.

Certainly worrying for Liverpool to see our rival buying players who are the "plug and play" type whereas most of our buys are still in "development" stage...as much as we have a strong first liners but we still need players who can just fit right in from the word go...:(

Messi is a game changer no doubt about it, even at his age.

That said if Liverpool by some fantasy actually had that kind of money to spend, I would rather go for Mbappe for obvious reasons.

Back to the present reality, this upcoming season is going to be a really tough one regardless of Messi(although that would make it even harder) going by the recent transfer signings by Chelsea, City and even Arsenal (also still think United shall make some last minute signings as well).

Really hope Thiago Alcantara signs on.

Have to say though that if Wijnaldum leaves, there maybe be a void. Was watching a replay of the A. Madrid Anfield CL tie yesterday and Ginni was very impressive in an underrated way, similar to the Barca Anfield CL tie the season before. Pity if he goes, a real loss.

Also the Ox had a great game against A. Madrid as well, in his best position as CM. Somehow have to hope that he can raise his game to that high level again once he comes back from injury and also not turn into another Daniel Sturridge.

Hope to win tonight but I rather take this as another preseason warm up. Most important no injuries.

The real season begins on the 12th and I much rather see a long winning streak and unbeaten run in this regard.

Pool always fall into the wrong ownership. I don't really blame the owners as to them this is running a business, so profitability is utmost important to them rather than for the luv of the club n the game. We have to accept the fact that Pool will always struggle to buy the players that they wanted. Likely I think the Thiago deal will not work out unless Pool manage to sell couple more players to raise the cash! I certainly hope Gini stays as I forsee there'll be a lot of injuries in midfield this coming season.

Another trophy (though the Charity Shield is less regarded as a major trophy) it will be a booster and makes the player hunger for more.

Against an opponent like Arsenal, it will be a test for Pool.

Agree we need a strong start to the season like last season where we were unbeaten for 18 games.:D:D:D

Thiago is 90% likeky to be a Liverpool player. He has agreed personal terms with Liverpool and has been house hunting in Liverpool the past few weeks. I understand he has shortlisted a couple of houses and just need his family to select the final choice.

The deal is delayed because Liverpool is not prepared to pay above in excess of Thiago's valuation. If no deal happen this transfer window.... Liverpool will still get Thiago next season on a free transfer. BM will be the big loser if they want to be greedy and ask for more money.

hope we bring in Thiago Alcantara.

Steady defending by Arsenal but lack of penetration by Liverpool.

Weird parallel from last season.

Poor first half and 1-0 down. Improved second half and 1-1. Late chance missed to win (Salah and Mane) and then lose in pens. Arteta was also on coaching staff of City last year.

Let's hope the parallel continues for the rest of the season.

Not arsed about not winning this.

Very arsed about our over reliance on the full backs to create. Get Thiago. And we can see why we were originally linked to Werner. And just as I was singing Gini's praises he puts on a shit performance. At least Keita looked good when he came on and happy for Minamino to get his first goal, also looked bright.

Also I think Klopp's testing the youngsters in a situation with pressure. IMO Brewster has a lot to learn. Neco is not ready. Only Jones is.

Gotta say I'm impressed with Arteta. He’s done well so far. This Arsenal team is far better than previous showings.

Anyways we now know what needs to be done or I hope we do as Leeds, Chelsea and Arsenal is a tricky first three games.

Really hate to lose.
Now that's out of the way, must say the stick being levelled at Williams is unfair. Squaring up against a world class forward like Auba is a big ask for any established full back, let alone a rookie. Missed Hendo providing that right side cover. Remember not too long ago, teams would target our right side, seeing a young Trent as the 'weaker' compared to the left of Robbo and VVD.
Takes a brave manager to keep the faith with youth, and that we have in Klopp.
Same goes for Brewster. Obviously he was subbed in by Klopp with an eye on taking the pen. Can't deny it's gut wrenching for him to be the one who missed, but we'll soon see if he has the character to rise above this and put some steel in his belly.
Playing the first half at a pedestrian pace didn't do us any favors against a disciplined defence. What a change Taki and Keita made coming on. If they play to their potential, I'm not worried if we don't get Thiago in this window. Taking the positives from this 'setback', i'm hoping the team gets right pissed off and take it out on our next 20 opponents. Up the forkin' Reds!

Tbh we have not looked very good since the restart(perhaps even further back than that?). There are reasons for this but really hope Klopp sorts it out within the next two weeks.

High intensity tempo and super pressing needs to return asap. Also hope to see less grinding out and more outstanding consistent performances instead.

That said any win will still do, for all 38 EPL matches and all the CL matches as well(no interest in the FA and League Cups apart from bleeding in our youngsters and other squad members):D

On the transfer front, well if Gini does not sign a fresh contract it would make sense to get money for him now. Still think he adds value albeit can be inconsistent but might as well bank it in now and get Thiago asap. As for Mane leaving, yes he can leave but only if we get Mbappe as a replacement.

Liverpool has been quiet in the transfer market for a few windows now. Our club is different in these ways. Our lack of transfer movement is not an issue. It is actually our main strength. Here are some ways our transfer strategy differs from the rest.

1. We use the Moneyball system to select players based on statistics and value. We aim to find players that will do well for us but are under the radar for major clubs. Players like Minamino, Robertson. Other clubs are still scouting talent from known selling clubs like Ajax, Dortmund, Red Bull teams

2. We have no issue letting players go on free transfers. Some clubs lock their players out if they don't sign contract extensions. We are happy to play them a lot in their last season before letting them leave for free (think of Emre Can). Gini knows if he stays, he will play a lot even if he leaves next season.

3. We will give youth a chance so young potential world class players will join us in their teens. Think of TAA, Curtis Jones, Neco Williams, Brewster, Gomez etc. Many other clubs want to buy only ready solutions. How many Chelsea youth team players actually move on to the first team?

4. We plan our transfers a few seasons ahead. We know who will probably decline as they age and who their replacements will be. Players like Lovren, Lallana are replaced seamlessly. Other teams don't even know who their manager will be a few seasons ahead.

5. We have a system to play and all our youth teams are trained to play in the same tactics as our first team. This differs from other clubs who keep changing managers. So many teams move between attacking managers and defensive managers (Van Gaal, Emery, Mourinho). Like that how to train young players for the first team?

6. We don't sign players for commercial reasons. Some players are lousy on the pitch but are huge marketing stories. We don't sign players based on their number of followers on IG, Twitter etc. I think transfers like Pogba and Neymar are made because they will help their teams with commercial success.

I agreed with you.

Barcelona wants Gini but only wiling to pay £20ml. Now I understood why Liverpool quite reluctant to pay Thiago for £27 mil.

Liverpool have enough players and just need the players to step up and play as a team.

We won CL in 2019, PL in 2020 and players are still around. Unless there is a drop in desire which had not happened then difficult to justify spending big money transfer to upset balance

Chelsea, MU will have to justify their big signings. Those existing players may feel bad and not willing to play as team when huge big name transfers in. May face players dressing revolt.

Why than did we pay top dollar for Alisson, VVVD and Keita, Fabinho to a lesser extent?

I am still convinced but for this wretched covid-19 situation we probably would have bought Werner and finalised the Thiago transfer by now.

I trust Klopp but he can't perform miracles every season.

If we don't freshen things up with real proven quality talent now I'm afraid this season is going to be a long tough ride particularly since our other rivals are making what looks to be like pretty good buys.

Blackpool, last preseason game before our season kicks off next Saturday against Leeds.

First half was rubbish, team probably got a bollocking from Klopp at half time particularly players like Fabinho.

Second half was a different story altogether. The Liverpool we would like to see when the curtain lifts next Saturday.

Keita and Minamino looked very good. Curtis Jones seems to have come of age. If this lad can keep playing at this level consistently, then I would say he is the next young England star after Sancho, Trent, Rashford, Foden and Greenwood, plus a Scouser to boot.

Elliot, Van Den Berg and Hoever were quite good as well. So all in a good work out for our youngsters and the rest of the team, Bobby looks to be getting back to form and Milner is a class act as the granddaddy of the team.

Quite a bit for Klopp to think about as well on formation and tactics. Things look promising and hopefully all the right pieces in place for another great season.

Thiago in our squad this season would be the icing on the cake though.

Found this interesting link. https://www.statista.com/statistics/251158/revenue-of-liverpool-fc-by-stream/#:~:text=Broadcasting%20is%20the%20largest%20sourc e,amounted%20to%20210.9%20million%20euro. Our revenue is split into Commercial, Broadcasting and Match Day.

The first thing that comes to my mind with regards to Commercial will be the shirt deal with Nike. It comes with a low base amount though. Given how expensive Nike jerseys are, the questionable designs and the overall global recession, I am not sure how much more money we can generate for this Nike shirt deal in the current year.

Broadcasting revenue is likely to be much lower too. EPL already lost the deal to broadcast in China due to politics (likely because England protested over the Hong Kong security law). Some broadcasters want to renegotiate the fees as there are no supporters in the stadiums now. With a more subdued atmosphere, the live broadcast is not as appealing to home viewers. I agree with this. Since the re-start, the live telecasts don't seem so interesting.

Match day will be the worst hit. Liverpool actually suspended the sales of season tickets for 20/21 and we have also frozen ticket prices for a few seasons now. It doesn't help that Liverpool as a city is not as prosperous as London. Given that tickets are more expensive in London, Arsenal and Spurs will be able to generate bigger match day revenue due to bigger stadium and higher ticket prices. https://www.statista.com/statistics/328644/premier-league-teams-ranked-by-most-expensive-ticket-price/

So having looked through how much we may be earning, let's look at how much we have committed to spend. Player wages have increased a lot since our Champions League victory. We didn't spend much money buying new players at the end of 2018/19 season because the transfer budget was spent on renewing the contracts for most of the Champions League winning squad.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8083413/Liverpool-FIFTH-highest-wage-bill-world-just-Real-Madrid.html There are reports that Salah was the 4th highest income earner in the world for the 2019/20 season too. Given how much we need to spend and how unpredictable the incoming revenue for the new season is, I think it is reasonable for us not to buy expensive players for now.

I think Chelsea is taking a huge gamble by splashing $200 million pounds on new players but like Man City, they are a sugar daddy financed team. Man U seemed to be able to take advantage of the economic situation by buying players from probably financially distressed clubs. The only thing I dislike about our team is we are still trying to sell out of favour squad players at high prices. Not sure who will splash the cash to buy Karius now. May make more sense to extend the contracts of Harry Wilson, Grujic by 1 year to preserve transfer value and then loan them out for this season.

escobar43535
06-09-2020, 05:57 PM
Actually I think Chelsea rinsed Madrid for Hazard and used all of Madrid's money to fund the purchases of Werner, Kai, Hakim and Chilwell with not much extra coming out of Roman's pockets. Very shrewed business deals by Marina.

That said we pulled off the samething from our sale of Phil to Barca to fund the purchases of Alisson and VVD.

On paper, Chelsea should be challenging for the league this season.

All I can say is thank goodness Messi ain't going to City this season.

Expected a tough match but not this tough:eek:

Respect to Bielsa and his men:cool:

At one point I thought we were the Liverpool of old with an exciting striking attack but poor defence.

Poor defending, sloppy at times and this coming from VVD of all people.

Midfield was poor as well.

Our only good players were Robertson, Mane and young Jones when he came on.

Oh and Mo Salah was back to excellent red hot best and thank goodness for that:cool:

We really need to get our shape and sharpness back in time for our next match which shall probably be much tougher away to Chelsea.

Pool didn't score any goals from open play, all were set pieces in fact!
2 pens, 1 corner n 1 from a free kick.
Overall a very disappointing performance n honestly Pool was lucky to get the 3pts.

i looked at the stats of the game,

Possession: Liverpool 48% Leeds 52%
Shots on target: Liverpool 6 Leeds 3
Shots:Liverpool 22 Leeds 6
Passes: Liverpool 423 Leeds 460

Leeds took their game to Liverpool at Anfield, but like last season we have to play until the final whistle is blown.

next up against the upgraded Chelsea team with lots of fire power and probably Frank Lampard has some score to settle from last game.

I'm surprised how easily Leeds players can get past our defenders. TAA and Gomez especially looked lost in the first half. I think Firmino needs to work on his fitness. He has no pace and stamina. He has been in a gradual decline for quite a while. Just glad we won. Maybe this match will be a trigger for squad improvement.

The Premier League did a U-turn. Now teams can only make 3 substitutions per match. Previously it was 5 substitutions per match for this season. Let's see how Chelsea manages the situation as many of their newly bought players may not even make it to the bench.

Great game by Leeds to push and stretch Liverpool.
Got through the defense so easily..
Liverpool needs to tighten up while we should see if Leeds can keep their own pressing game through the season.

I have been following Leeds in the Championship since 2 seasons ago and know them quite well. I knew Liverpool will have a hard game as Bielsa is a shrewd tactician and Leeds have the players to carry out his gameplan. In fact I had bet on this game to be a draw and would have won a tidy sum if not for the dying minutes penalty.

Many teams will find Leeds to be a tough game..... provided Leeds can keep their 1st team players injury free as they are a light weight squad with few substitutes.

Leeds has a great manager.

To win PL then too much to ask for with their current squad.

Still predict Leeds to stay up this season. Maybe somewhere in the middle table.

All depends if Leeds can win versus Wolves, Sheffield Utd, Everton.

Classic move called long standing interest. They have to indicate their interest now so that they can say they have been eyeing him for a long time. With Messi gone next season, they would have freed up a lot of weekly wages which can be used to recruit someone else. Mane is targeted by Real Madrid

Both Real madrid and Barcelona likes to target players with a huge following on instagram, twitter etc. Gives them hugh commercial value to their sponsors. Sells a lot of shirts too

I think Liverpool may sell next season. The current squad is at its peak now. Selling a few will provide funds for a rebuild of the team.

Thiago Alcantara: The one who got away from Manchester United — now facing a new challenge at Liverpool
Player of the match in this year's Champions League final — this is the story of Alcantara, and how he has ended up at Anfield

By
Jason Burt,
CHIEF FOOTBALL CORRESPONDENT
17 September 2020 • 1:03pm

There are several things that strike you on meeting Thiago Alcantara: he fixes eye contact and does not waver as he talks; he speaks perfect English despite only having studied the language a little at school – and he clearly knows his own mind.

Thiago will only talk about what he wants to talk about but when he does he is an engaging, thoughtful character and someone who knows his value and worth. For example, there is no doubt that the seeds of his departure from Bayern Munich were sown on his last appearance playing in England – when he was left out of the starting line-up for the Champions League group tie away to Tottenham Hotspur last October which ended in a memorable 7-2 victory for the Germans.

Thiago came on at half-time – with the score only 2-1 to the visitors – and was outstanding but his pride was hurt and he felt annoyed at not starting such a big game especially as Bayern struggled throughout the remainder of Niko Kovac’s time as head coach before he was replaced by Hansi Flick little over a month later.

After that, it has transpired that in the 4-2-3-1 formation favoured by Flick he has been moving towards Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka forming the first-choice pairing in central midfield.

Even so, Thiago remained important and it did appear he would – aged 29 – be signing a contract extension with Bayern in May before changing his mind and telling the club that he wanted a “new challenge”. The decision is certainly not financially driven but, genuinely, because he felt he had achieved all he could at the German giants.

Thiago could have already played in England more regularly, of course, and it will be bitterly ironic for Manchester United fans that both the midfield play-maker and Gareth Bale are on the move in the same transfer window given their club made efforts to sign them seven years ago.

In 2013, United left it far too late to go for Bale, after Cristiano Ronaldo changed his mind on a return to Old Trafford and signed a new contract at Real Madrid, and despite offering £20 million more than the world-record £85 million paid by the Spanish giants. The deal to Madrid was already done with United not even opening negotiations until after Tottenham Hotspur’s first game of the season – a 1-0 win away to Crystal Palace on August 18.

An even greater mistake was the decision to pull the plug on a deal to sign Thiago from Barcelona that had been put in place by Sir Alex Ferguson before he retired and David Moyes took over. Moyes was unsure about the player, believing he did not know enough about him and preferred to try and sign another Barcelona player he was more familiar with, Cesc Fabregas, which was scuppered partly, it was believed, because he did not want to be seen as a second-choice to Thiago. So, infamously, United eventually signed Marouane Fellaini from Everton.

United had expressed some interest in Thiago again during this window – just as they were asked whether they would like to bring in Bale – but the smart money was always on a move to Liverpool and not least because of Klopp’s deep admiration for the Spain international. That admiration is mutual and it clearly smoothed negotiations.

There were clues to Thiago’s destination when Telegraph Sport interviewed him last September. Having played for Barcelona and Bayern he suggested that the Premier League was “a little step ahead” of the other leagues including those in Germany, Spain and Italy.

Unlike a lot of other players he did not ascribe this to the cliché that English football is just faster and more physical. “No, because here [in Germany] as well it’s fast and physical. It’s maybe that the quality of the players they have there is better than in the Bundesliga,” Thiago said. He is now one of those players.

Also, a Champions League last-16 defeat to Liverpool the previous season had left an impression on Thiago with Jurgen Klopp’s side destroying Bayern in Munich. After that, and despite dominating domestically, Thiago felt the season was already over.

“When you lose in the last-16 it is more ‘okay, this season... it goes to the trash’”, He said. “Because you are supposed to be there to fight to the end.”

Bayern did fight to the end last season, winning the Champions League, which has given Thiago the perfect, complete ending to his career at the club. What is also noteworthy about this deal is how seamless it has been. There has not been an ongoing saga – despite all the talk coming out of Bayern – and while Liverpool may have continually denied it was in train no-one really believed them. Bayern suspected that personal terms were agreed some time ago and also knew they did not want Thiago to run down the final year of his contract and leave for free. They needed a fee even if it is far less than would have been realised under different circumstances.

So who have Liverpool bought? For a start they are bringing in the man-of-the-match from that Champions League Final victory over Paris Saint-Germain and a player who exudes confidence. “I am [confident],” Thiago said in that interview with Telegraph Sport last year. “In the end it is work. It is work to be more intelligent, to think faster than your opponent and think faster than I thought last year.” That will excite Liverpool fans along with the determination he has to succeed at Anfield.

Gather, Liverpool and Wolves have agreed a fee of £41m rising to £45m for Diogo Jota.
In a separate deal, Ki-Jana Hoever is valued at £9m plus £4.5m in add ons to move from Liverpool to Wolves.

My my, FSG/Edwards/Klopp actually been busy behind the scenes all this while:D

Not sure whether Jota is really worth that much but I guess age factor(he is 23) counts, also his wages probably much lower than what Werner is getting at Chelsea, payment plan also well crafted by Edwards. Plus Jota definitely looks better than Ismaila Sarr(another attack player we were also apparently linked with).

Hoever moving on is a pity, but the price is very good all things considered, especially since we bought him for a pittance and he is still only 18years old. Agreed, hope we have a buy back clause though.

I guess this means bye bye to Origi. Nice guy, good player and scored some vital legendary goals for us. Unfortunately I don't think he is suited to our system of play but will be fondly remembered. Hope we get a really good price for him as well.

As for Brewster, interesting to see how Klopp deals with him. No doubt he is a goal poacher with a natural striker's instinct to score goals. Also he is still relatively very young. But does he fit into our system of play?

Anyways I am really buzzing after all this dramatic transfer news over the last 36hours plus, very exciting times ahead for us this season:cool:

Also gather Chelsea's new boys: Chilwell, Ziyech and Thiago(Silva not Alcantara:p) probably ain't playing against us on Sunday. So too Pulisic. Positive for us albeit it is still going to be a tough game. Hope our boys are up for it plus given an added lift with the arrival of new quality additions to our squad.

Not sure how the formula works but I gather we have got to keep to a minimum quota of English players in our squad under FA rules.

So if Brewster leaves, will we be short on this English players quota?

Brewster never included under the English quota since he came from academy. Any academy players can be selected to play in PL matches.

Liverpool have enough English in first team.

"The Premier League proposed a maximum of 17 non-"homegrown" players in each club squad, and the squad size is a maximum of 25. This means that in a full squad of 25 players, there must be at least eight homegrown players."

Apparently Thiago can play for us against Chelsea. His deal was announced on Friday but the paperwork has been done earlier. I am not very sure about the length of the Thiago deal. 4 years seems quite long for a player with high wages and turning 30 in April. Will look forward to see how he performs.

Buying Jota makes a lot of sense. He does not have to get used to the Premier League and he will be given time to learn our system.

I still think we can beat Chelsea 3-0 this weekend. When it is time to meet a top 6 opponent, our guys are extra fired up. The Premier League did a sudden last minute U turn. Now teams are only allowed 3 substitutions per game. Previously it was announced that 5 substitutions can be made each game. I don't seem how Frank Lampard can keep his new signings happy. Many of them will not make it to even sit on the bench at all.

Professional performance by the lads tonight.

Great penalty save by Alisson.

So surprised to see Thiago in the second half. His passing was excellent but we all knew it would be. What really impressed me is how great he is positionally. Always seems to be available for an easy pass or in a position to pick up a second ball. Pure class.

Salah was very good once again even though he did not score and when Mane is in the mood he is unplayable, as he was tonight, also pure class.

But tonight i was impressed the most by Fabinho. Tbh I was worried when I saw the team sheet without Gomez or Matip(btw what's with these two tofus, especially Matip?!). But so glad Fabinho proved me wrong. He is very intelligent. He makes sure he doesn't put himself in sticky situations and had Werner well under control. Fabulous Fabinho:cool:

Still rate Timo Werner though and I think Chelsea really missed Pulisic and Ziyech as well. That said the night was ours with a solid win!

Woke up to watch the highlights. Quite impressed that Mane did not protest the original yellow card decision. He took the referee's decision respectfully. If it happened to Man U, all the players would have swamped around the referee to pressure him.

I think once Chelsea's team settled down into playing as a team, they will be much harder to beat. They have very good players. Glad we met them so early in the season. Man City will come to Stamford Bridge on the 2nd of Jan 2021. By then, Chelsea will be much harder to beat. Hopefully Man City will drop points here.

Chelsea should be alright eventually provided they dump Kepa asap, which looks to be the case from their latest purchase of Mendy.

Beggars belief that Kepa is currently the world's most expensive GK. Think even Karius ain't as bad as him and that does not say much.

That said Lampard needs to work out where Havertz shall be most effective because thus far Kai has been lacklustre.

Must repeat, I still really fancy Timo Werner even though this ship has long since sailed away. Pure class and shall probably bag more than 20 PL goals this season.

MOTM rightly goes to Fabinno who did great to restrict Timo Werner.

However other teams will have difficulty handling Timo as he is fast and instinctive and links up well with Kai Harvertz.

It was a pleasure to see Thiago Alcantara play and he is CLASS!!! add more dimension to our midfield.

Harry Wilson did not even get a chance to play. That is how strong we are in midfield. Reading from the comments on facebook, Grujic had a great game and is the natural backup to Fabinho. Saw the highlights and read some reports.

Great overall performance from our Team B but keep in mind this is Lincoln we are talking about.

Stand outs seemed to be Jones and Minamino. Jones really looks to be the next star in the making. He just needs to be patient and carry on being humble and work hard. As for Takumi, very happy for him. Previously thought he reminded me of Yossi B, now I think can add on Luis Garcia perhaps?!

Nice cameo from Shaqiri. I gather Jürgen praised him after the match but I still think Shaqiri shall move on, provided we get a good price. Same goes for Grujic. Apparently had a really good game but where does he fit into this team apart from domestic cup matches?

Gather Kostas had a good game which bodes well for us. Neco on the other hand looked raw. So too Elliott. Jota apparently showed some nice touches, high expectations because of his high price tag though.

Strangely no Brewster. Like Grujic and Shaqiri another enigma. Another one if we should get a good price we shall probably let him go.

We move on to Arsenal at home on Monday night. Going to be very interesting and probably a whole lot harder than previous ones because the Gooners now look well drilled under Arteta.

Why? Because this gives OGS further extended time at United.

Wow. Just. Wow.

Agent Rogers strikes again:D. Masterstroke this. Sells Chilwell for £55M, buys Castagne for £20M, shifts Justin to LB. Castagne has been quality in all three matches for Leicester:cool:

City giving away 3 stonewall penalties, never seen defending like it from a supposed top side and 2 of them from experienced professionals, so no excuses. Even with arrival of Dias, I wonder whether this shall finally tighten up their defence. Last season it was all about Laporte being absent, well then what was Laporte doing on the bench last night?

Those Man City wheels are looking wobbly, that was bad & it's striking again just how vulnerable they are once momentum shifts & teams beat that press. It was identical to the Lyon defeat in some ways with how they conceded chances.

Vincent Kompany and David Silva were two huge losses - those two are irreplaceable for that team. Also think they miss Sane as well. Pep seems to rely too much on KDB but KDB can't work miracles all the time.

Looking ahead to tonight's game, pity if both Alisson and Thiago are unavailable but it is what it is. We just need to deal with it similar to how we dealt with such situations last season. Luckily I think there is now more than enough depth in our midfield to deal with such situations. On the GK side, just have to hope Adrian is up for it.

Actually am more concerned on our back right side, particularly how to deal with PEA. Preferably Gomez should return if he is fully fit because of his pace. But if not then, Fabinho remains at CB with more cover from midfield to help him and TAA.

Its going to be a tough one tonight as I rate Arteta and his boys but if we just keep to doing what we do best and remain mentality monsters than I think we should pass this test.

Come on you reds!

PS. With this absolutely ridiculous new handball penalty rule, I say screw shooting on goal, when we get in the box aim at players arms:rolleyes::p

For Covid19 there is no such thing as speedy recovery..... has to let the virus run its course for 2 weeks. Luckily for LFC he will only miss 2 games as there is an international break coming up.

I worry if the virus has spread to the rest of the squad since they are in close proximity. Covid-19 may affect the lungs so he may be out for longer than a normal person since he needs to run for 90 mins. Not so advisable for a person who has just recovered from Covid 19 to be doing strenuous sports.

Allow me to throw more light onto this issue. The 14 day period is for a quarantine enforced for those suspected or coming from high risk countries [in fact nearly all countries in this world] as the virus has an incubation within a few days but never exceed 14 days to be safe, i.e. after 14 days, if no signs of the virus [via symptoms or by tests], then it is safe to go back into the community. If infected, the patient will be hospitalized and not quarantined, which will undergo treatments [maybe by ACE cocktails] and may last for at least a month or longer or shorter if death occurs. So, if Thiago is infected [positive] then it may be longer than 14 days for him to stay away. The strain in Europe is deadlier than the strain found in Malaysia and Singapore, quite worrisome for fans to know that :(

Many ppl in UK are still very stubborn not putting on mask. That's why the high infection rates in the UK everyday.

I think different countries have different SOPs for dealing with those infected by the Covid19 virus.

Here in Singapore..... being tested positive for Covid19 does not mean hospitalisation. They will only send you to hospital if you belong to the high risk group (peeps with pre-existing medical conditions) or in the elderly age group (60 & above). My neighbour who is 57 was turned away by a hospital and the doctor scold him " you are only 57 you are not old.".... and redirected the nurses to send him to the quarantine centre instead.

Covid19 positive cases are sent to quarantine centres with other confirmed cases and do nothing there but wait for their own immune system to deal with the virus. Only when they develop serious symptoms then they are brought to the NCID for treatment.

My company employs more than 600 Banglas / Ah Nehs and more than 50% of them tested positive for Covid19 during the CB. We were surprised when all of them were sent to the quarantine centres in Expo instead of brought to the hospitals. Nothing to do there but eat sleep & play smartphone..... with no medication given.
Testing done everyday and they will be discharged upon getting a negative test result. So Covid19 is not as scary for normal healthy folks...... only becomes dangerous to the vulnerable high risk groups.
Thiago will recover easily as he is a fit young man.

Harry Wilson was horrible, no enthusiasm @all n he don't seemed interested. It was a real lousy feeling again to lose on penalties.
Origi was the main culprit to miss the penalty as Ars had just missed. Wilson's penalty was weak n predictable thus easily saved by Leno in the sudden death penalty.
Pool should off load Wilson soon.
Hope Pool will not give up on the FA Cup easily this season.

The League Cup is the least important competition we want to be in. Losing on penalties is no shame but the PL win on Monday is much more important for Pool.

I'm sure on Klopp's agenda are the PL and the CL titles again this year. That's where the big money is and what every players wants to be performing at their best.

Given a chance to play and these guys failed. So who to blame when Klopp dun play them in PL or CL.

Anyway get that out of mind and let's hope for a thorough examination away to Aston Villa on Sunday. Really short rest and turnover. Tight schedule packed to brim when CL starts.

No interest in this Mickey Mouse League Cup, oh and while we are at it neither am I interested in the FA Cup. These two domestic cup competitions only of use to give our young players and fringe players some competitive game time.

Only the PL and CL matter, nothing else.

Back to the game, did not watch it but based on the highlights and what I read, our mainly fringe team played quite well save for lacking clinical finishing in front of Arsenal's goal, that and Leno their GK was apparently the motm.

Seems like Rhys Williams and Grujic played well; Jota, Jones and Minamino had quite good run outs.

Wilson does not seem to make the cut here. If we can get a good price he should be sold. Looks like Shaqiri is on his way out as well. Pity because I think he was useful but unfortunately seemed injured most of the time, so better he moves on, hopefully at a good price. As for Origi, difficult one because I think he is best suited as a central striker but Klopp keeps putting him on the sides where he is unproductive. Now with Jota in, perhaps it is time to say goodbye to Origi as well, but again only at a good price.

Anyways, we move on to Villa on Sunday. Now this one is an important match and hope to see us continue on our winning run with another precious three points.

Brewster seems to be sold for $23 million pounds to Sheffield United. There seems to be buyback clause. Also seems to have sell-on fee if we do not wish to buy him back. (This is Anfield) reports there is $18m upfront fee payment. This is unusual as fees tend to be staggered across seasons.

I hope Grujic stays. I think he is good enough to play for us now and he will continue to improve. No need to search for Gini or Milner replacement in future. Plus he seems happy to be a squad player here. He was a regular starter at Hertha Berlin. In fact his manager then said Grujic is the best player ever to play for Hertha Berlin. Best player ever.. big compliment.

3rd covid case in the squad. Hopefully no more. Looking at the Brewster transfer, I cannot remember any Liverpool player who was loaned out and then come back to stake a place in the squad. We tend to loan out, increase their visibility and then sell them for a higher price. Can you all recall anyone who was loaned out and came back to be part of the squad? If not, next time we read about a player being loaned out, we can roughly tell he has no long term future in the club.

Brewster was loaned out and sold with buy back clause.

Brewster wanted more playing time and so have to sell. Also as a striker, he has no chance to play for Liverpool except domestic Cup competition. Even that does any of the players stand out to be considered except maybe Curtis Jones.

Curtis Jones is midfielder and have better chance to paly for Liverpool as bench player.

our next game against Everton will be toughest as Ancelotti has a good track record playing against Klopp.

The high line defense works well provided the high press is executed properly at the same time. Last night our high press was shockingly poor.

Apart from Salah, Robertson and Jota, the rest of the team were really bad. But what is most obvious is that TAA is vulnerable with Gomez. If Henderson was around it probably would have been alright. Unfortunately Keita was bad and so too Bobby.

On the Adrian front, yes he was terrible but not the only one to blame for this thrashing. Even the big man himself VVD was poor.

Klopp needs to get our mojo back very quickly. Hopefully we shall at least have Mane, Henderson and Thiago back for the Everton match. On the GK, unfortunately Alisson wont be back and thus I wonder if Kelleher should be given a chance? If Matip is still not fit I might even consider putting Fabinho at CB in place of Gomez. At the top, I would put Salah in the middle, move Mane to the right and give Jota a chance on the left, putting Bobby on the bench.

Congrats to the Villans, they really humbled us. But keep the faith guys!

Yes still 34 matches to be played, so early days yet. Like I said earlier, we should get a clearer picture as to how LFC shall be faring this season after 10 matches as our first 10 matches include top and tricky clubs.

But I am sure Klopp and his boys are not going to forget this shocking massacre at Villa Park. Thanks for this list.

A bit curious though because I saw what looks to be like our 25 man EPL list somewhere else and Shaqiri was named under midfielders together with Curtis Jones. If I were Klopp I rather take out Elliott from the above list and put in Curtis instead as I think Curtis seems to be improving at a faster pace.

Hope to see Matip, Ox and Shaqiri less on the injury list and instead fit and sharp. Might as well include Keita and Alisson in this group as well.

This chap is way too young to even overtake Kelleher let alone Adrian at such short notice.

Tbh it looks like we are stuck with Adrian as #2 this season. We just have to work with it and protect Adrian like a fortress whenever he plays. Also I think Adrian should not play out from the back, he is just too error prone in this regard. As a shot stopper I think he is not too bad for a #2 though.

Adrian needs to get his confidence back asap for the Everton game. Think Klopp did the right thing by taking away the pressure from Adrian as he did not blame him for our shocking loss at Villa Park, just the first goal.

That's Klopp's virtue if u have been noticing all these while. He'll not speak negatively about any of his players to the public even after a horrible performance. But behind the scene I'm sure he'll go hard on them!
Nowadays everytime I see Adrain handling the ball I'll tremble. I'll rather see him just kick or throw the ball out straightaway!

Elliot is not club grown as he is trained by Fulham so he has got to be on the list. Don't see him playing in this year's CL as a starting 11 or substitute though. By the way, CL games can have 5 substitutes per game. This is to our advantage as we have squad quality in depth this season.

Lately Elliott's form has dipped quite a bit. Not as sharp n clinical with his passing n dribbling compared to when he 1st arrived.

Oic. Appreciate the information bro.

On paper, the depth of our squad looks good. But in reality this is dependent on the usual suspects not getting injured, keeping fit and getting back into top gear consistently.

Strange...... but many bookies are placing Everton as the favourites in the upcoming Merseyside Derby. Do they know something which we don't?

How do they decide? With 2 more rounds of international games (i think) coming up next week plus the worsening covid situation around the world, how do they know which players will remain injury free and covid 19 free?Remember, Everton has a strong starting 11 while we have a strong squad. They miss a few players only the whole game is different.

We are almost back to full squad. Thiago will be covid-19 free, have a good 2 week's rest (he has almost no holiday before joining us).Maybe you should buy a Liverpool win now since the odds are in our favour.

Liverpool let 0.5.

Means what? Liverpool is favourite?

Means what? Liverpool is favourite?

Yes.

Also means Liverpool give handicap half ball to Everton. If game ends in 90 mins draw then those bet Everton collect money.

Everton odds slashed to 10 to 1 to lift the EPL title.
Liverpool stays at 2 to 1 to defend title.
Man city at 2.5 to 1.

These odds changes weekly or as and when results in.

Lots of its and buts over this upcoming Merseyside derby.

I think if Henderson, Thiago and Mane return fit and sharp, plus VVD returns to being the #1 CB in the world instead of his recent lackadaisical self and TAA also reverts back to top form, then we should stand a pretty good chance.

That said Everton not only have a strong first XI( well maybe X because Pickford can be erratic, hope he has some bloopers on Saturday!) but also have a wily old cat world class manager in Don Carlo whose record against Klopp is pretty good. Not forgetting this is at Everton's home.

Tbh at the moment a draw would not be such a bad result.

A lot riding on Adrian and our defence getting their act together plus our high press being executed ruthlessly. We got to hunt in packs relentless whenever we do not have the ball exactly like we use to in our last two successful seasons.

Really hope to see the return of reds mentality monsters on Saturday.

There is no way Everton is favourite. Pool is still giving the -0.5 handicap n they will be the favourites all the way till ko.

Not forgetting this is at Everton's home.

As long as fans cannot enter the stadium, there is very little home ground advantage I feel. We won at Chelsea too. Without the fans, every stadium feels the same. Watching the games this year..it lacks some urgency or feel without the crowd leh.

Anyway, Thiago is out of isolation and walking around Liverpool taking photos along the way. Covid 19 is a respiratory disease. Hopefully it has not damaged or strained his lungs too much. otherwise it will be harder for him to run so much over 90 minutes.

Rumours saying Covid19 cluster at Melwood with 2 staff testing positive and suspected several more yet to be confirmed. Maybe the bookies have insider news?

Dun forget several Liverpool fans died from Covid19 earlier this year after attending the CL game vs At Madrid and infected at the game.

Yup just heard about Keita testing positive for Covid-19.

Was watching Sky news channel, seems like the city of Liverpool is now having it bad with Covid-19, so much so that the city itself might go into lock down from Monday.

Wonder whether this might even affect the Merseyside derby on Saturday?

Premier League: Liverpool and Manchester United propose major changes to English football

Premier League says some of the proposals "could have a damaging impact on the whole game" and are "disappointed" by EFL chairman Rick Parry's public support for them

A proposal to change the voting structure of the Premier League, as well as funding models for the English Football League and Football Association, has been drawn up by Liverpool's owners and is backed by Manchester United.

The proposal - called 'Project Big Picture' - includes several other major changes to the structure of English football, including a reduction from 20 to 18 teams in the Premier League and the scrapping of the EFL Cup and Community Shield.

The Premier League issued a statement shortly after the plans were first reported by the Daily Telegraph on Sunday, saying "a number of the individual proposals in the plan published today could have a damaging impact on the whole game".

Initial talks between Liverpool, United and the other "big six" clubs - Manchester City, Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea - have taken place, with hope an agreement can be reached.

The reform plan, drawn up by Liverpool's owners, Fenway Sports Group, was started in 2017 and is seen as a radical change to football governance. It has been accelerated by the coronavirus pandemic due to the financial situation facing many EFL clubs.

One of the most appealing parts for some EFL clubs may be 25 per cent of all combined Premier League and EFL revenues going to them, with an advance of up to £250m being made available early to help during the pandemic.

The proposed changes would put the majority of the power into the hands of the biggest clubs, ending the division's current one-club, one-vote system.

The plan calls for the nine clubs with the longest continued presence in the league, which includes the 'big six', to be given "long-term shareholder" status and the ability to make changes with the support of just six of the nine.

Along with the £250m up front payment to the EFL, the FA would also receive £100m as a gift.

'Plans extremely attractive to EFL'

EFL chairman Rick Parry, the former Liverpool chief executive, has strongly backed the plan, saying it resolves many of the issues currently facing EFL clubs.

Speaking on Sunday evening, he said: "This is a proposal to reset the long-term future of the English pyramid.

"This would produce long-term sustainability for all of our clubs. It would narrow the gap between the Championship and the Premier League. It would abolish parachute payments, which create a major imbalance within the Championship. Plus, there's a short-term package of immediate relief.

"It probably is the biggest idea since the formation of the Premier League. In terms of rebalancing the game, providing fairer shares for all, securing the financial future of the pyramid - for us, it's extremely attractive."

Asked whether the proposals have the support of the EFL clubs, Parry said: "We shall see in the coming days. I genuinely believe it's in their very best interests.

"I've had the chance to talk to a limited number of them today and they've been extremely receptive."

The Premier League said it was "disappointed" by Parry's public support for the plans. As well as the Premier League reducing in size from 20 clubs to 18, there would also be a change to the promotion and relegation exchange with the Championship.

The bottom two clubs would be automatically relegated from the Premier League and replaced with the top two from the Championship.

The 16th-placed Premier League club would have to play in a play-off with the Championship's third, fourth and fifth-placed teams.

The usual curtain-raising Community Shield match between the Premier League title-holders and FA Cup winners would be scrapped under the proposals, along with the EFL Cup. Other reports have claimed that rather than a complete abolition of the EFL Cup, it could continue without teams who are playing in European competition.

The plan would need the support of 14 of the Premier League's 20 clubs to be approved.

Full Premier League statement

We have seen media reports today regarding a plan to restructure football in this country.

English football is the world's most watched, and has a vibrant, dynamic and competitive league structure that drives interest around the globe. To maintain this position, it is important that we all work together. Both the Premier League and The FA support a wide-ranging discussion on the future of the game, including its competition structures, calendar and overall financing particularly in light of the effects of COVID-19.

Football has many stakeholders, therefore this work should be carried out through the proper channels enabling all clubs and stakeholders the opportunity to contribute.

In the Premier League's view, a number of the individual proposals in the plan published today could have a damaging impact on the whole game and we are disappointed to see that Rick Parry, Chair of the EFL, has given his on-the-record support.

The Premier League has been working in good faith with its clubs and the EFL to seek a resolution to the requirement for COVID-19 rescue funding. This work will continue.

DCMS: Proposals 'deeply troubling'

The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport released a statement on Sunday criticising the proposals, and accusing the Premier League's biggest sides of trying to create a "closed shop".

The statement read: "We are surprised and disappointed that at a time of crisis when we have urged the top tiers of professional football to come together and finalise a deal to help lower league clubs, there appear to be backroom deals being cooked up that would create a closed shop at the very top of the game.

"Sustainability, integrity and fair competition are absolutely paramount and anything that may undermine them is deeply troubling. Fans must be front of all our minds, and this shows why our fan-led review of football governance will be so critical."

Parry hit back at the DCMS, saying: "There is no backdoor - these proposals are entirely transparent. The [DCMS] haven't seen them yet, so what they're commenting on, I can only speculate.

"Maybe they should have come up with a more measured view. We will take the time to explain the proposals and I have every confidence that, when they see them, they will actually see the merits. Rushing out ill-considered statements, I don't think is terribly helpful."

I think the proposed changes by Rick Parry just means we need to pay more to watch EPL. It is all about getting more money from wherever they can. After Brexit, European players may not be able to play so easily in England. The EPL may not be so interesting to watch.

Liverpool boosted by training return of Sadio Mane & Thiago after self-isolation period

Sadio Mane and Thiago both returned to training on Monday following on from their self-isolation period after testing positive for coronavirus.

The news of their return comes ahead of the Reds’ trip to Goodison Park for the 238th Merseyside derby, where they will have at least four days to prove their fitness.

Thiago was one of the first Liverpool players to test positive days after making his debut at Chelsea and one of a rising number in the Premier League.

While asymptomatic, he was required to undergo a 10-day period of isolation which ruled him out of both games against Arsenal and the defeat at Aston Villa.

The latter was a game also missed by Mane after it was confirmed that he tested positive days out from the league clash, but he too has now recovered and has made his safe return.

It comes as a major boost to Jurgen Klopp ahead of an all-important clash with Everton, with Thiago in line for his first start since his summer switch.

The Spaniard would boost the Reds’ midfield options with Jordan Henderson still on the comeback trail to match fitness, which was boosted by featuring for just over an hour in England’s win over Belgium.

The availability of Fabinho, meanwhile, is not set to be known until hours before kickoff on Saturday once his test results return following exploits with Brazil in South America.

But reports from a number of Merseyside reporters, including the Mirror’s David Maddock and the Telegraph’s Chris Bascombe state that the club are still awaiting the results of a second test on Naby Keita after reports from Africa emerged that he has tested positive for COVID-19.

He travelled to Portugal for two friendly games, the second of which has now been cancelled but he is currently in isolation as he awaits the results of his latest test.

Keita was the second Red to test positive during the break, following on from Xherdan Shaqiri who later tested negative enabling him to rejoin his Switzerland teammates.

the game against Everton will determine the mood for the next 2 months.

will need to scrap the high line tactic against Everton, back to basics good defending at the back and protect Adrian.
