LFC is currently talking to someone who fits both roles perfectly........ Carlos Tevez :)

The deal can be finalised if Kia Joobacharan will stop being so greedy and agree to reduce Tevez's wages........ Mancini is very happy to release Tevez. :p

I really hope he is not coming to Liverpool.

Ya, kuyt did well for us last season and Maxi was also doing well. Seems like KD is building for the future and neither kuyt nort maxi, due to their age, are not part of that future.

But i m very sian and pissed.

Kuyt was the most consistent and hardworking player that Liverpool has ever had . He has been playing well 3 different managers . I don't think we should be unfair to him to bench him just because of his age. If that is the case they should also bench Carragher too.Maxi deserverves more playing time and I believe he is probably that Lucas or Henderson.

I have a bad feeling that AC is going to be a big flop just like Torres. :(

I have a bad feeling that AC is going to be a big flop just like Torres. :(

At least FT has contribute 40+ goals in his 1st season tough he made a mess in his 2nd.

AC? Nah, his height advantage is as useless as crouchie and his movement and passing is awful, big NO for me since the 1st day he moved here.

Anyway its up to the management to decide, we fans can only type in forums and think why this and that only

If i have a choice (which i dont :D) i would buy him.

Bad tempered as he might be, at least he show he determination and aggression on the pitch rather than walking on it aimelessly.

Aside from stevie, dirk and luis, the rest are merely average addition to the squad.

Experience over youth.....anytime!!!!
Carroll is a absolute flop and disappointment....
Drop Carroll and play Bellamy.

Usually Liverpool don't play well with players returning form their international duties. This is a tricky tie . A draw might be a fair result but then Chelsea appears to be in much better form recently than Liverpool. :(

I won't be placing any bets today on this match just to play safe.

Maxi has scored 8 goals in the last 5 games he played in. Hope KD will play him more often now.

This season Liverpool has taken the lead in 4 matches and the matches have all turned into draws, hopefully they can preserve the lead in this game and not end up with another draw. :)

Kudos to our stand in captain Reina not because of his saves the score line will be different

From the back line to the attack there isn't much things I can't find fault about it only when they introduce AC I got a bit worry

Nevertheless it's seems this season we are better in away games than home ground ..... Hmmmm quite strange isn't it

i did not watch the game but have watch the higlights online..
a good win and 2 good goals scored.. we need the 3 pt badly to keep in touch with the top teams...

kudos to kenny for made the changes in starting lineup..

i always think that maxi is an intelligent player who know where to run into space and be at the right place at the right time. but his main problem is that he has not able to maintain his form consistently. :o

and for bellemy, i guess he has come out of age, nowaday he is using his head a lot more than just depending on his burst of pace. his off the ball running and that quick thinking 1-2 which set up the goal show exactly that. i think few years ago, he might have taken a shot at goal instead of passing to the unmarked maxi. :p

we can't depend on the forward all the time, we need other players to take turns to turn on their form and produce moment of brilliant, like johnson's goal.

i was pondering that shall kenny bring in kelly when i read in the live updates that malouda was giving johnson hell lots of problem in 2nd half, and the goal also came from our right side.
but luckily i'm not the manager, else he won't be on th epitch to score the winner. :p
it's always easy for us, the fans, to crticise or comment on the manager's decision after the game. :p
we're seems to be back to few season ago when we always struggled against "smaller" teams but perform well against the top-4 teams..

Yup, need goals from all around. Sad Kenny had to bench his British buys to do it, but let's built upon this to end City's unbeaten record.

I was watching the match in a coffeeshop. The crowd is quite good even though it's a late night match. There was a bunch of loud guys that really get on my nerves. Kept saying 'It's written in the skies that Torres will be sub in and score a late winner.' When Chelsea equalised, they went 'Leh leh, I told you so.' Nah bei. Honestly, we didn't play well. Our attack seemed to lack ideas. Until that 1 move that lead to our 2nd goal, almost 80% of the crowd stood up and shouted 'Goal!!!'. Except for that table and a few guys.

End up overhearing the summary of the match from that stupid table. You know what they said? Ex-liverpool players who are now Chelsea players suck (torres and meireles). Ex-chelsea players who are now Liverpool players are still so good (Johnson). Wah lau, must die die find a silver lining in the clouds. Must die die end the match with something positive to say about Chelsea.

It was a fun way to watch a match overall. Watching a loud and arrogant group of guys sink in defeat. Their faces at the final whistle... priceless! :p It is, afterall, written in the skies that a former Chelsea player will score a late winner. It's written in the skies... nah bei, so poetic ah.

The Reds team in full is: Reina, Johnson, Enrique, Skrtel, Agger, Lucas, Adam, Henderson, Downing, Kuyt, Suarez. Subs: Doni, Kelly, Carragher, Maxi, Coates, Spearing, Carroll.

Suprised that Bellers not in the team. He was pally with Gary Speed, could be that he is too distraught to play.

Sad that Maxi has been benched, I have been clamouring for him to be included in the first XI as he has often delivered when selected.

Looking at the reserves, it seems we do not have much strength in midfield, wee Jay while competent, is not a game changer.

Anyway, my prediction: Liverpool 3 Man City 1

It's an exciting match. End to end action. I think Suarez should slow down. If given the opportunity, he shoots pretty fast where a slower placement ball might result in the goal. For example, the rebound off Andy Carroll's header. The keeper is on the floor already yet Suarez shot hard and low. Fowler would have chipped the goalie. We got lucky when we had 3 players standing on the goal-line waiting to clear the ball. Rare sight.

Yes it was the best chance n we did not manage to finish them off

But it's been such a long time that we play attacking football against a team which is clearly stronger than us in term of first eleven n bench player

there is one thing that concerns though notwithstanding a good reds performance agst the best team in the epl at the mo...reds continue to lack the clinical finishing goal scoring touch which is both worrying n frustrating...downing's touch was abysmal...kuyt was poor...suarez takes things too fast at times...no doubt hart pulled off some great saves for Citeh...but then again if the reds' strike force was just abit more clinical...liverpool wld probably hv won the match...same for the matches agst manure, norwich, swansea n stoke...think kenny n clarkie need to do some hard thinking on this issue if the reds r to push for that vital top 4 epl finish...

be that as it may...i still had a good monday...great game lads...also balotelli made my day when i heard abt his tantrum in the dressing room after the match, bloody twat broke the door!!:D...anyways bring on the chavs...

Probably a positive result with the top contender for this year champions contender. We have done well with the top 4 teams baring spud whom we lost earlier. The top 4 finish will be though but not impossible, support the team through and through. It was a fantastic fast game. Just the the rest .WE COULD HAVE WON IT,,,,,,,,m!!!!!!

Nice note bro ;)

Finishing easier said than done. Some people born with it (look at Owen). But for others, confidence and anxiety play a great part. Snatch at the chance, or think a second more, and the goal becomes much smaller.

Liverpool discuss sensational bid for Barcelona ace Villa

Liverpool are lining up a sensational bid for Barcelona striker David Villa.

The People says the Spanish superstar was wanted by the Reds 18 months ago when he left Valencia, but Barca beat off competition from Anfield and Real Madrid to clinch his signature.

However, Villa’s situation at the Nou Camp has changed and his place is no longer guaranteed in the starting line-up.

And Liverpool will go for the player again next summer if they return to the Champions League.

The player’s contract with Barcelona runs until 2014 and contains a mind-boggling buy-out clause of £170million. But an offer in the region of £40m might tempt the Catalan giants.

Will he join the red?

I hope so..:D

That's a huge blow to us indeed.

There is no quality direct replacement for Lucas in the squad. Lucas has been magnificent for us in the role he plays in. I thought he was much better than Didi Hamman in his prime.

Wee Jay definitely is a consideration, but I think Dalglish will give Henderson a chance in the middle, with Shelvey and Spearing as cover. Maxi (my Fav) is now knocking hard on the 1st team door and he should be in contention on either wing. Either that, or KD will get Gerrard to sit in front of the back four, and just harrass the hell out of the opposition. If he suges up the field, then Adams will have to cover. I think it is workable.

did not watch the LC QF but caught the goals n read some stuff on the net...looks like bellamy, lucas, coates n kelly played really well...happy for maxi but pity Carroll missed the pen wld hv done him a world of gd to get a goal...

v happy wif the result but concerned n worried over lucas' injury...looks like his season is over...what a shame when lucas was finally coming into his own...wish him all the best in his recovery n really hope he is able to get back to the same top form that he was in prior to this bad luck injury...

as for the team...man this is a big blow what wif SG still out...Jonjo recalled bk fm blackpool but jonjo is an attacking midfielder...think time has come for jay spearing to show us whether he can step up to the plate...possible 3 man midfield of jay, adam n hendo...adam is going to feel lots of pressure becoz lucas was the backbone n spine in midfield...Hendo also needs to find his form here n now...talk of aurelio stepping in or even trying agger in the DM position...read some jokes that Carroll is a possibility as well wif his seize, current form(?!) n pony tail!!...

luckily the next few EPL games before the winter tranfer window opens(kenny n comoli may need to find adequate replacemnt for lucas, may be a loan deal?) look quite k n playable such as Fulham, QPR, Wigan etc only Newcastle n perhaps Villa may prove more challenging...but the attack now needs to find its form here n now since the reds defence may now turn vulnerable wif the sudden absence of lucas...Carroll has to find the net now; other reds need to feed Carroll better; Suarez needs to stop falling down at the slightest challenge calling for cards n be more clinical wif his finishing...downing n kuyt need to find the net now...n maxi sld be given more starts...

bitter sweet start to the xmas/new yr period...really hope the reds can pull thru this set back...

sadly n unfortunately was kinda of expecting it since reds now seem to only turn on the magic agst the big clubs but when it cums to 8-20th clubs the redmen dont seem to be all that keen n bothered...

no doubt ref n the woodwork n absence of lucas were no help...but at the end of the day the reds hv only themselves to blame for not performing, especially the poor clinical finishing in attack which results in a lack of goals...the lack of goals is proving to be a big big problem which shall probably cost the reds a CL place nxt season(i really hope i am wrong though)...

kenny also has to take some blame for wrong strategy/tactics...maxi sld hv started instead of carroll...especially wif hag n senderos in defence...in any event maxi sld hv been given some playing time...also kenny took too long to make changes...n why downing played on the right when he is a left winger i cant understand...

I think most bros here would agree with me.

1 ) This season looking more like last season. We seemed to be palying well against better teams but played poorly against the lower teams.

2 ) The biggest flop so far for this season is AC , followed by Henderson.

3 ) We definitely need a lot of target practise at goal . An extra striker would be great to have.

4 ) Should give Maxi and CB more playing time.

5 ) The possibility of 4th spot for next season is definitely getting further away from us. :(

as it stands now...if AC plays then i think Downing needs to play as well to provide some supply at least...so sld be downing/carroll/suarez...alternatively leave AC on the bench as an impact sub n use a maxi/suarez/bellamy r if maxi in midfield then go wif kuyt up front as well...

I think Downing has been more disappointing than Andy - he has hardly played the role of a winger. Johnson and Enrique have both done much better than him on the flanks.

Kenny's got to play Maxi now instead of Downing. Henderson I can still stomach in central midfield - he makes go runs and it will only be a matter of time when he scores again. Remember that Maxi missed many chances too when he first came to us in January.

Keane said..
"People have talked about the young players - you've had Jones, Chris Smalling, Ashley Young coming in, everybody building them up but they've got a lot to do, it's a reality check for some, I'd be getting hold of some of those lads, saying 'you'd better buck up your ideas'. I think their best player tonight was Ryan Giggs, that sums it up - he 37 or 38, you can't be depending on him.
United got what they deserved tonight."

And so Fergies response? - "Well, he's had opportunities to prove himself as a manager too".

HA! What a funny old night its been! Brilliant.

sanity still prevails with the champions fans. Had it been the fool team, the fools here would have called for axing the manager. Its been boring to play always in the big league, just wanted to see what the league the fools have been playing in the past years...

To the tune of Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer:D

Sir Alex, United's manager,
Has a very shiny nose,
And if you ever saw it,
You would even say it glows.

All of the other managers,
used to laugh and call him names,
They wouldn't let Sir Alex,
Play in any manager's games.

Then one disastrous Wednesday night,
Jose rang to say,
Alex with your nose so bright,
You can play on Thursday nights.

Then all the managers loved him,
And they shouted out with glee,
Alex you purple nosed *******,
Enjoy playing Europa League

*To In the Bleak Midwinter:p

In the bleak of Switzerland,
United were undone,
Basel scored two cracker goals,
The Mancs weren't having fun.

The 90 minute mark was drawing near,
Panic in the red camp,
There came a look of dread and fear,
On the face of that purple-nosed tramp.

It looks like United are on the slide,
They're playing with fatigue,
All their players looked proper sad,
To join the Europa League.

The rest of the country had a laugh,
The pubs were all alive,
With Reds galore all shouting with glee,
'Thursday Nights Channel 5!'

also looks like maxi/suarez/bellamy(kuyt) attack appears to be the best option at the mo, also v exciting to watch...great pace, 1-2 passing movement...unfortunately the finishing product still not there...somehow r other kenny n clarkie need to find a solution to the reds poor finishing asap...

happy to c spurs finally drop some pts...plus the magpies dropping more pts...wld hv been even happier if the gunners dropped pts as well but just hv to admire that beauty by RVP(this chap is really on fire at the mo)...hoping Citeh will do the reds a favour n beat chelsea tonite...

Kenny: I trust them implicitly

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kenny Dalglish has reiterated his unwavering belief that Liverpool's strikeforce are on the verge of a goal-fest.

The Reds once again created a raft of chances at the weekend but found QPR stopper Radek Cerny in inspired form during the 1-0 victory over Neil Warnock's men.

Dalglish was delighted with the overall performance of his charges and is confident they are still moving in the right direction.

"We did miss some chances, yes, but the goalkeeper saved a lot of them too," said Dalglish.

"Do I feel the need to go out and do something about that? Aye, whichever side comes along here next, we'll ask them to come without a 'keeper. That's the best way to do it, isn't it?

"Irrespective of what I say, it's not going to stop speculation we are going out in January to sign Joe Bloggs up front, or whoever. I don't need to say anything.

"For us it was a fantastic team performance. We are quite happy.

"I trust the players implicitly when it comes to scoring, implicitly.

"They continued to get in there on goal, and even with the 'keeper having a good day, they didn't drop their heads. They must be enjoying what they are doing, to continue playing like that, and creating chances like that.

"One day, creating chances like that, we are going to get a load...or we are going to be garbage, and win 1-0. And I think that will do us."

He added: "I think some of the football we played in the first half was brilliant, and we won't change our beliefs or the way we play.

"That's why we brought the players here in the first place, and we will stick to those principles.

"Our performance was fantastic, and the only thing missing was the goals that confirm that.

"If you look at home performances they have been fantastic, look at points...maybe not. There is not a game we have played here that we couldn't have won, we shouldn't have won.

"The goalkeepers that have come here have done very well for their sides...I'm saying that again. Performance wise, we don't have any problem whatsoever, goals - yeah, we'd love more, and we'll get more."

We do have a history of returning strikers who did decently well for us in the second spell. Rush, Fowler, Bellamy. Verdict into Luis Suarez's alleged racist abuse of Patrice Evra delayed

The Football Association has said there will be no verdict on charges Liverpool's Luis Suarez racially abused Manchester United's Patrice Evra until Tuesday 20 December at the earliest.

This week's hearing, which heard claims Suarez used derogatory language in a confrontation during a match at Anfield on 15 October, started on Wednesday.

The FA added that the Independent Regulatory Commission would work through the weekend.

A verdict had been expected on Friday.

Suarez has been supported by his club in his denying the charge.

The 24-year-old striker told media in Uruguay that he "called him something his team-mates at Manchester call him".

The hearing, in front of a three-man panel, started on Wednesday and both players were expected to give evidence which could revolve around different cultural interpretations of any term used by Suarez.

Evra made his claims immediately after the match and was quoted as telling French TV station Canal Plus: "There are cameras, you can see [Suarez] say a certain word to me at least 10 times."

The Frenchman reported his complaint after the game to match referee Andre Marriner who included it in his report.

Suarez is facing a separate charge from the FA over an alleged abusive hand gesture he made as he left the pitch following Liverpool's 1-0 defeat by Fulham on 5 December.

it wasn't the most entertaining of football games, but an important win, and i'm happy...reds had the game under control from start to finish, and the win was never in doubt...

Skrtel and Bellamy were class, and Johnson and Downing had good games too...Enrique and Agger were solid as ever...Suarez was a bit off today, but still managed to hit the woodwork twice(17th woodwork this season n counting:eek::()....Shelvey showed he's ready to start league games very composed performance...Adam and Hendo didn't have their best games for us, but both did ok....

only thing dont know why Carra came on, bit worried wif his form...also know i keep repeating this but it has to be said...last third of the field, bad decision making, poor finishing n lack of concentration is costing the reds dearly when it comes to goals...somehow kenny n clarkie gotta deal wif this problem asap...

happy start to the x'mas week wif chelsea, arsenal n newcastle all dropping pts as well...wld hv been nice if spurs dropped pts as well but me just being greedy!...

Luis Suárez's £40,000 fine and eight-match ban for racially abusing Patrice Evra angers Liverpool

Liverpool have accused the Football Association of engineering a witch-hunt against striker Luis Suárez after the striker was suspended for eight games.
Luis Suárez's £40,000 fine and eight-match ban for racially abusing Patrice Evra angers Liverpool

By Chris Bascombe

8:07PM GMT 20 Dec 2011

Suárez was hit with the hefty ban and fined £40,000 for racially abusing Manchester United’s Patrice Evra in the Premier League fixture between the clubs on Oct 15.

The Independent Regulatory Commission acting on behalf of the FA ruled Suárez was guilty of misconduct and issued the severe penalties, pending an appeal.

However, there was an instant and enraged response from Anfield to the commission’s announcement.

A Liverpool club statement deemed the findings of the panel “extraordinary” and alleged “the FA were determined to bring charges against Luis Suarez, even before interviewing him at the beginning of November”.

The severity of the punishment has effectively led to open warfare between Liverpool, the FA and Manchester United, with the Merseyside club also suggesting Evra should be charged with racially abusing Suarez during their incendiary confrontation.

Evra claimed Suarez racially abused him “at least 10 times” in an interview conducted immediately after the game with French television station Canal Plus. Kenny Dalglish, the Liverpool manager, defended his player from the outset and personally attended the hearing in Manchester last week.

He argued that the word “negro” – which Suarez admitted using once – does not necessarily have racist connotations in the player’s homeland in Uruguay. Liverpool also claimed Evra had used racial language to insult their striker.

But an FA statement confirmed the commission found Suarez had contravened rule E3 (2) of their regulations and issued the severe penalties. The statement read: “An Independent Regulatory Commission has today found a charge of misconduct against Luis Suarez proven, and have issued a suspension for a period of eight matches as well as fining him £40,000, pending appeal.”

Liverpool are considering whether to appeal against the decision, which would keep Suarez out of football for over a month and have a serious impact on the club’s top four and trophy ambitions.

They have 14 days in which to lodge an appeal, which means the South American will be available for tonight’s Premier League game at Wigan, but there is a dilemma for the club as they consider their next course of action.

An appeal will force Suarez to miss both legs of the Carling Cup semi-final with Manchester City, the second leg of which is played on Jan 25.

Liverpool will believe protecting the tarnished reputation of their star striker is of more importance than the games he might miss by challenging the FA’s decision.

It is clear that Suarez retains the full support of everyone at Anfield, including the club’s owners, who are perplexed by the harshness of the punishment.

While Manchester United were making no comment on the findings, Liverpool issued a damning statement attacking the judgment and querying the validity of the commission’s conclusions.

They also suggested Evra should have faced race abuse charges of his own, suggesting there were further incidents in the fixture which the FA have refused to investigate.

“Liverpool Football Club is very surprised and disappointed with the decision of the Football Association Commission,” read the club statement.

“We find it extraordinary that Luis can be found guilty on the word of Patrice Evra alone when no one else on the field of play – including Evra’s own Manchester United team-mates and all the match officials – heard the alleged conversation between the two players in a crowded Kop goalmouth while a corner kick was about to be taken.”

Liverpool also accused the French defender of lacking credibility in his evidence, a public criticism which is sure to rile United and may prompt more recrimination.

“It is also our opinion that the accusation by this particular player was not credible – certainly no more credible than his prior unfounded accusations,” said the Liverpool statement.

“We do not recognise the way in which Luis Suarez has been characterised. We would also like to know when the FA intend to charge Patrice Evra with making abusive remarks to an opponent after he admitted himself in his evidence to insulting Luis Suarez in Spanish in the most objectionable of terms.”

Dalglish released a statement on Twitter stating: “Very disappointed with today’s verdict. This is the time when Luis Suarez needs our support. Let’s not let him walk alone.”

Suarez, too, expressed his disappointment, saying: “Today is a very difficult and painful day for me and my family.”

A three-man panel, consisting of Paul Goulding QC; Brian Jones, chairman of the Sheffield and Hallamshire FA; and former Sunderland manager Denis Smith, knew they were dealing with one of the most inflammatory cases in English football history given the rivalry between the clubs involved.

It took five days of deliberating to decide Suarez’s fate, but a saga which began last October is likely to run on with Liverpool refusing to willingly accept the conclusions.

Liverpool FC Statement

Liverpool Football Club is very surprised and disappointed with the decision of the Football Association Commission to find Luis Suarez guilty of the charges against him.

We look forward to the publication of the Commission's Judgment. We will study the detailed reasons of the Commission once they become available, but reserve our right to appeal or take any other course of action we feel appropriate with regards to this situation.

We find it extraordinary that Luis can be found guilty on the word of Patrice Evra alone when no-one else on the field of play - including Evra's own Manchester United teammates and all the match officials - heard the alleged conversation between the two players in a crowded Kop goalmouth while a corner kick was about to be taken.

The Club takes extremely seriously the fight against all forms of discrimination and has a long and successful track record in work relating to anti-racist activity and social inclusion. We remain committed to this ideal and equality for all, irrespective of a person's background.

LFC considers racism in any form to be unacceptable - without compromise. It is our strong held belief, having gone over the facts of the case, that Luis Suarez did not commit any racist act. It is also our opinion that the accusation by this particular player was not credible - certainly no more credible than his prior unfounded accusations.

It is key to note that Patrice Evra himself in his written statement in this case said 'I don't think that Luis Suarez is racist'. The FA in their opening remarks accepted that Luis Suarez was not racist.

Luis himself is of a mixed race family background as his grandfather was black. He has been personally involved since the 2010 World Cup in a charitable project which uses sport to encourage solidarity amongst people of different backgrounds with the central theme that the colour of a person's skin does not matter; they can all play together as a team.

He has played with black players and mixed with their families whilst with the Uruguay national side and was Captain at Ajax Amsterdam of a team with a proud multi-cultural profile, many of whom became good friends.

It seems incredible to us that a player of mixed heritage should be accused and found guilty in the way he has based on the evidence presented. We do not recognise the way in which Luis Suarez has been characterised.

It appears to us that the FA were determined to bring charges against Luis Suarez, even before interviewing him at the beginning of November. Nothing we have heard in the course of the hearing has changed our view that Luis Suarez is innocent of the charges brought against him and we will provide Luis with whatever support he now needs to clear his name.

We would also like to know when the FA intend to charge Patrice Evra with making abusive remarks to an opponent after he admitted himself in his evidence to insulting Luis Suarez in Spanish in the most objectionable of terms. Luis, to his credit, actually told the FA he had not heard the insult.

First time in my life I have seen such harsh punishment coming from the English FA .  I believe there are certain people in the English FA out to get Suarez out of the way as they see him as a real threat.

I believe Liverpool FC will strongly made an appeal to have the sentence reduce given the fact that this is his first offence in England. Since his arrival he had contributed much to the game .

I believe now we have a striker crisis. With AC still not up to par and always on the bench who can we turn to for goals ? CB , Maxi and Kuyt need to be given more playing time . If not we may just have to go out and buy 2 more strikers in the January transfer window.

John Terry to face criminal charges over alleged racist abuse

# guardian.co.uk, Wednesday 21 December 2011 14.43 GMT

The Crown Prosecution Service has announced that John Terry will face criminal charges relating to an alleged racist slur aimed at the QPR defender Anton Ferdinand.

Terry, who denies wrongdoing, will appear before West London magistrates' court on 1 February 2012, charged with a racially aggravated public order offence.

Reacting to the development, the Chelsea and England captain said: "I am disappointed with the decision to charge me and hope to be given the chance to clear my name as quickly as possible. I have never aimed a racist remark at anyone and count people from all races and creeds among my closest friends.

"I will fight tooth and nail to prove my innocence. I have campaigned against racism and believe there is no place for it in society."

The news follows the CPS's recent confirmation that it had received additional evidence, thought to be new video footage of the incident, which allegedly occurred during Chelsea's defeat at Loftus Road on 23 October.

Alison Saunders, chief crown prosecutor for London said: "I have today advised the Metropolitan police service that John Terry should be prosecuted for a racially aggravated public order offence following comments allegedly made during a Premier League football match between Queens Park Rangers and Chelsea on 23 October 2011.

"The decision was taken in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors and after careful consideration of all the evidence I am satisfied there is sufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction and it is in the public interest to prosecute this case.

"Mr Terry will appear before West London magistrates' court on 1 February 2012. He is now summonsed with a criminal offence and has the right to a fair trial. It is extremely important that nothing should be reported which could prejudice his trial."

The CPS also released the full text of the charge against Terry, which reads: "On 23rd October 2011 at Loftus Road Stadium, London W12 you used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, or disorderly behaviour within the hearing or sight of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress which was racially aggravated in accordance with section 28 of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998. Contrary to section 31 (1) (c) of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998."

The Football Association is yet to respond to the latest development.

Now we will see if John Terry will be punished for being the great moral captain of England that he is.

The Liverpool players have this evening issued the following joint statement in support of Luis Suarez.

Luis Suarez is our teammate and our friend and as a group of players we are shocked and angered that he has been found guilty by the FA.

We totally support Luis and we want the world to know that. We know he is not racist.

We are a squad of many different nationalities and backgrounds. All of us support the Club's commitment to fighting racism. All of us accept there is no place in the game for any form of discrimination. As a group of players we totally support the Kick it Out Campaign.

We have lived, trained and played with Luis for almost 12 months and we don't recognise the way he has been portrayed. We will continue to support Luis through this difficult period, and as a popular and respected friend of all his teammates, he will not walk alone.

Suarez: Supported by team-mates

Luis Suarez's lawyer says the Liverpool striker will appeal against his eight-game ban for racially insulting Manchester United's Patrice Evra.

Alejandro Balbi, who is also Suarez's agent, says the Uruguay international is "very affected" by the punishment but "calm because of the massive support of the club, the coach, his teammates and his captain."
Suarez was was handed an eight-match ban on Tuesday when a three-man Independent Regulatory Commission appointed by the FA found him guilty of guilty of misconduct after Evra accused the forward of racially abusing him.
Liverpool were furious with the outcome of the disciplinary hearing and have reiterated their support for Suarez.
The Liverpool squad earlier on Wednesday expressed their anger at the FA's decision to ban and fine Suarez and along with Reds boss Kenny Dalglish they all wore T-shirts with pictures of Suarez on the front of them ahead of the game at Wigan.
Liverpool have two weeks to decide upon a possible appeal against the ban and fine with the club expected to wait until they receive written explanation from the FA over the verdict.

Tell us more about Suarez's ban and stifle speculation

Rohit Brijnath
The Straits Times
Publication Date : 22-12-2011

Liverpool's Luiz Suarez has been banned for eight matches, but this triumph against racism is coloured by frustration. Especially if you wear red. One might say this is not quite a clear-cut case in black and white. It is sentence delivered but not yet explained with adequate clarity, it is apparent justice but so far with unsatisfactory detail.

The player sanctioned for the ugly, stomping tackle can be reviewed on video. His act is there before us. The racist slur is trickier, it is not clearly heard always, it is one man's word against the next, it requires the text of a judgment to convince us. It has not come yet and leads both rational man and conspiracy theorist into suggesting hidden agendas.

Already, there is quaint insinuation that this is all linked to Sepp Blatter, the Fifa chief who suggested racism on a field should be settled with a handshake.

The Swiss official's comments were met with a less wider derision than they warranted. Only the English were openly appalled by this timidity about racism.

So if the eight-match ban was just England bravely flexing its anti-discriminatory muscle, then they should be celebrated. Except not all are convinced. One suggestion is that the decision is intended more as a mocking of Blatter, using Suarez as a convenient weapon to make a larger and sterner point. As if to say: see, we are truly intolerant of intolerance.

It is innuendo and it can only be punctured by rapidly revealing the three-man commission's findings. What really happened? We deserve to know.

Till then Liverpool will stay incensed. In a statement, the club stated: "We find it extraordinary that Luis can be found guilty on the word of Patrice Evra alone". No one else heard their conversation in the goal-mouth, they say.

Does that presume he never said it? Evra told television he was abused more than 10 times; Suarez apparently used the word "negro" once. But, of course, the number does not matter, it is intent.

Either way, the commission believed the Frenchman. Why? We'd like to know.

Reputation often becomes an issue in an accusation, but neither man qualifies for sainthood here. A Football Association hearing in 2008, regarding Evra's fracas with a groundsman, reportedly found his evidence "exaggerated and unreliable".

Furthermore, his own alleged comment during the Suarez match to the referee - "You're only booking me because I'm black" - is intriguing: either he is an over-sensitive soul or subtly intimidating a referee by suggesting a latent prejudice.

This is a fine weapon for Liverpool, till we turn to Suarez and his barbed-wire halo. The Uruguayan has bitten a player, given the crowd the finger, known to dive and had a bust-up with an Ajax colleague.

Did this matter? We wish to know.

To the dubious history of the players, we must add a confusing geography. Suarez hails from Uruguay, where it has been pointed out that its iconic captain at the 1950 World Cup was Obdulio Jacinto Muinos Varela, nicknamed "El Negro Jefe" or the The Black Chief. Perhaps for Suarez, the word "negro", which he called Evra, is not a slur. Wherein we fall into a bewildering world of language, culture, intent, translation.

But, as pundits say, perhaps Suarez - having travelled to play for Ajax - should know words have a different resonance outside his nation. In 2008, for instance, Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh was accused of calling Australian Andrew Symonds - partly of West Indian descent - a "monkey", to which the occasional ill-advised blogger suggested "monkey" was not a pejorative in India. Irrespective of whether Singh said the word, as an argument it isn't persuasive.

Evidently, the Suarez panel did not buy the semantic argument, for the FA's statement reads, "the insulting words used by Mr Suarez included a reference to Mr Evra's colour". But it's not enough. It's the detail we want to know.

Liverpool have also used the heritage defence, stating "Luis himself is of a mixed-race family background as his grandfather was black". But can we presume this makes him above suspicion? Indeed, even if he is not a racist - and Evra apparently stated Suarez is not - he may be, like Steve Williams was with Tiger Woods in the case of the "black ****hole", guilty of the racial slur.

Was this part of their deliberations? We need to know.

It is an ugly time. Petitions will be written, appeals filed. The divide between clubs is sharp and loyalty is obscuring logic. Suarez constantly sullies skill with stupidity and his strong ban will have even greater resonance if a wise panel breaks down his sins. Publish the findings soon, fellows. State the logic. Stifle the speculation. Football will be better for it.

Backed by Liverpool squad, Suarez to appeal ban
Associated Press

London: The lawyer for Luis Suarez announced plans on Wednesday to appeal against the striker's eight-game ban for racially insulting Manchester United's Patrice Evra, while his Liverpool teammates publicly backed their teammates in a statement.

Alejandro Balbi, who is Suarez's lawyer and agent, told reporters in Uruguay about the plans to appeal just as the forward was getting ready to play in Liverpool's 0-0 draw at Wigan in the Premier League.

The English Football Association also fined Suarez 40,000 Pounds, but the Uruguay forward can continue playing until the appeal process reaches its conclusion.

"The sanction has two items, the games suspension and the monetary. It will be a total appeal," Alejandro said.

"The counts of racism that were made against him are not true," Balbi added. "He firmly believes that this harsh sanction can be overturned."

He added that Suarez "is very affected" by the English Football Association's verdict, but is also "calm because of the massive support of the club, the coach, his teammates and his captain."

Before Wednesday's match against Wigan, Liverpool's players and manager Kenny Dalglish appeared at the ground wearing white T-shirts featuring Suarez's picture. They also released a statement expressing their anger at the FA's punishment.

"Luis Suarez is our teammate and our friend and as a group of players we are shocked and angered that he has been found guilty by the FA," Liverpool's squad said in a joint statement. "We totally support Luis and we want the world to know that. We know he is not racist ... we have lived, trained and played with Luis for almost 12 months and we don't recognize the way he has been portrayed."

The FA, though, accepted Evra's allegation that Suarez had directed a racial insult at him during United's Premier League match at Liverpool on October 15. If the appeal is rejected, the FA could increase the suspension.

"We will continue to support Luis through this difficult period, and as a popular and respected friend of all his teammates, he will not walk alone," the Liverpool squad said, referencing the club's anthem.

Balbi highlighted that the only evidence taken into account by the FA disciplinary panel was "the word of Evra," a fact that Liverpool also underlined Tuesday in defence of the player.

Suarez has also received support from his Uruguay teammates.

"I can't believe it. It's a big error that is being committed," Uruguay captain Diego Lugano said. "It's obvious that England have a problem with racism that they are trying to eradicate - and that's fine - but this decision does not have solid arguments. Luis is a victim. I don't understand how a player like Evra can do this."

"We all know the kind of person Luis is and the values he has. We are all very hurt. When one of our teammates is suffering, we all suffer. The only thing left is to support him and be with him."

Another Uruguay teammate, Napoli's Walter Gargano, described the situation as a "barbaric fiasco."

"Now we've got to get behind Luis more than ever," he told Uruguay radio station 1010 AM.

Again nothing to show after 45 mins except 0-1 down. AC still not pulling his weight. Hope second half they can come back to win the game. Kuyt should come in inplace of Henderson at least he gives the pace and urgency from midfield.

I think Suarez should just concentrate to shoot rather then performing too many stunts! Bring on our captain and Kuyt man...I think KD will make half time tactical change.:D

Can't believe that the meanest defence in the league is breached by the lowest ranked team, although its an own goal.

I am appeased though, as my fav, Maxi scored yet again. :p

Come on you Reds, go on to win it!

Another opportunity to close in on the top teams gone again, more like two points lost again then one point gain:(

I'm sure many peeps here will find positiveness as usual from this match..especially captain marvel come back.

But...not me...points as usual counts more than performance for me.
